My friends had all talked about The Jazz Corner as "the place to go" for live jazz music. So for my birthday (it was on a Tuesday night) my partner and I went to enjoy a couple of good drinks and awesome music. We showed up around 9pm (we were told that they close early on the weekdays so we wanted to get a good seat) they were still setting up the tables for the night but let us in anyway. I ordered a "blue lagoon" which was delicious (see picture) and my partner ordered a piscola. Shortly after, the music started and to our surprise, it was tango night! By no means was I disappointed, in fact, I think this might have been one of my favorite experiences watching live music in a bar. The performance was outstanding - the singer and his team were Argentinians and they all performed with such expression and power (for a lack of a better word) that both my partner and I were entranced in the music instead of conversation. Not only were the drinks and music amazing but the food was also pretty great. We ordered a cheese dish and a pizza (both fairly cheap and delicious!) The cheese platter was a warm, creamy camembert served with freshly toasted bread and a raspberry sauce. The pizza had 4 cheeses, basil and a thin crust -- 100% recommendable!

When I went the first thing I noticed was how inviting the place was with the fun choice of music and how warm they kept it inside. I also really enjoy the layout of the bar. There are lots of little rooms, each with 3 to 5 tables which makes it perfect for a more private evening out, or you can also enjoy yourself at their classy bar. Naturally there is also space if you want to go out with a group of friends or have a happy hour with your work buddies. They even have karaoke, fun! There pisco sour was just yummy and they have some great things to nibble on as well. They cheese platter is beautifully arranged with salami and several artisanal cheeses. I tried their manchas a la parmesana (clams baked with parmesan cheese) which were not the best I've had, but good. Their empanadas we just fine as well the only strange thing is that they were served on a plate and covered in plastic rap (maybe a mishap). All in all a nice chill bar to spend an evening.

Anything can happen in Club Subterráneo. This is great underground discotheque to party and dance all night long! They have awesome DJs, a large dance floor and sometimes even live music and mini concerts! The music is varied depending on who is playing. It can be pop, hip-hop, tecno, house -- they even play some salsa. It is also a great club to get a group of friends together to celebrate birthdays and special events. You can email them at : rrpp@subterraneo.cl and they will give you info about renting or reserving the section with tables in the back. If you do end up celebrating here, let them know you will be coming with a large group and you can send them your guest list and your friends will be able to enter free until 12am You should keep an eye out on their Facebook page (where they promote their events) there they show which events have a guest list and you can send in your name via email to get on the list. Entrance is then *free* until a certain time, usually around 1130pm and 12am. The entrance usually costs 4 mil after 12am. Also, I am not sure if they still do this, but if you eat dinner at any of the restaurants in Paseo Oreggo Lucco, you will be allowed in free before 11:30pm I recommend coming early to take advantage of their great happy hour specials and if you want something off the happy hour list, the bar is pretty well equipped to make just about any drink you want. Oh, they also have coat check but you pay for each item (I would bring a large purse where a jacket and scarf can fit...).

When you walk in the narrow doorway passed the bar and the anarchist posters, and into the industrial-like dark setting, you automatically know it will be a good night. The music is blasting with all types of rock (and a bit of scream-o thrown in every once in awhile to keep you on your feet), the clientele are rowdy (as you can tell by the "graffiti" on the walls) and it seems as if everyone knows one another (I don't mean to say everyone is super friendly, although they probably are, but I actually think they really do know almost everyone in the bar). I assume this is because Bar de Rene has made a loyal following for themselves throughout the years, with many returning clients. This could be in part because of the live music that is performed by local bands or the largest and cheapest piscolas I have ever seen. (I'm thinking a little bit of both). The bartenders are super generous, they serve you with a glass 3/4 of the way filled with a coke on the side! Even the most "piscoleros" of my friends have to ask for a separate glass to safely drink their now 2 piscolas. If you haven't tried many piscolas yet, I will let you know that the usual ratio is 1/3 of the glass filled with pisco and plenty of room left for your coke. Basicallly, live music + large and cheap piscolas = bound to be a good time.
