I have been here several times and have always had fun! Don't get me wrong, I am not one to bet on…read morehorses frequently (I swear I only did it that one time...) However, I also was here for an event to raise money for one of the workers who has cancer. The Hipódromo let the family run a huge party where they served food such as empanadas, completos and french fries as well as terremotos! Super generous of them in my opinion! The Hipódromo is huge and have events going on year round. They have event spaces on every floor (for every budget) as well as a garden where you can rent and decorate for an idyllic spring/summer event. The garden also is where many shows, weddings and concerts are hosted. If your thing is watching the horses, you wont be disappointed. There are races constantly - even some at night. You can also enjoy the opportunity to either sit outside or inside if it is cold. The Hipódromo, like a concert hall, is divided from the cheapest entries to the most expensive, with 5 different rooms/sections. It starts with "Paddock" which costs 300 pesos to enter and the minimum bet is 200 pesos. Then St. Leger (the main entrance) it costs 2mil to enter and has seating outside. On the other spectrum, there is the "Accionistas" VIP section (I have been in both Leger and Accionistas) where only those who have horses with credentials can come in or with an invitation. Honestly, the best option is Saint Leger because it is in front of the arrival of the horses. Unlike Accionistas, you can bring your own alcohol and food (although you have the option to buy there.) Tip: On the warm summer days, the garden is a perfect spot to have BBQs. Bring your choripans, beer and coals to enjoy the races a lo chileno! They also have a large parking lot and parking is super cheap - 300 pesos per car.
