TORT LAWYERS TAKE NOTE! DO NOT HIRE THIS FIRM!…read more Disabled Father ran through the system. Divorce sucks and if you want it to turn into a nightmare this is the firm for you! Out of pocket costs around $100,000. About $20,000 to figure out child custody without going to Court with my first Attorney Whitney Bolton. High turnover rate for practicing attorneys. Managing office attorneys are licensed in other states not able to practice Law in Virginia. Sounds to be the norm. After my first Attorney Whitney Bolton left, I was given to a new Attorney by the name of Erica Chua Hawkins. I was promised by Erica Chua Hawkins and Cordell & Cordell that she would look over my entire case free of charge to get caught up. Erica Chua Hawkins spent 1 hour reviewing my entire case and then was hospitalized for unknown reasons for about 1 month. No managing attorney or anyone from the firm notified me of her absence. I was notified about 2 weeks before my day in Court that had already been put off several times. Because of this, emergency work had to be done because no one was prepared and my case had to be delayed again. Every meeting with Erica Chua Hawkins I could tell she was unprepared and could not answer basic questions about my case. As things spiraled out of control and I brought these issues up with managing attorneys and their Client Care department "Kathy Coppedge". If you think your Ex-wife is cold wait until you get to deal with their Client Care department. Billing issues such as sending a fax for around $800 and having around 12 other people from different branches at Cordell working on your case with no results. If you have a martial home that you have been removed from they will act like it's the first time its ever happened in a divorce, and you will pay! The day Court did finally come, around 4 years after everything started my attorney was the last to arrive with her colleague wheeling in a cart with all the files they had amassed for 1 martial home, 1 rental property, retirement accounts being split and student loans. They milked me for around 80k on those 4 items. The Judge gave us one last chance to try and settle before he got started. Erica Chau Hawkins completely rolled on me. She said it would take 3+ days to go through with Court and I was scheduled for one day. I was scared and had already amounted such a debt that days in Court and what takes place afterword's with completing things... I tucked tail and settled. Erica Chau Hawkins negotiated the tax assed value of our martial home, split retirement accounts, nothing for our rental property and no student loan help although I helped pay my wife's off. I did extensive work to our martial home and the rental property. Erica Chau Hawkins told me I just needed to show proof I improved our rental property. Not a problem, photos, receipts, contracts etc... The day of Court she told me I couldn't get anything for the rental property. In summary I now live in Sioux Falls SD, 1269 miles away from my 2 boys. Total cash value loss, HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS... After being let go by Cordell and Cordell I had to rehire my original attorney Whitney Bolton to complete my divorce. Whitney was able to get me around $25k more for our martial home although the wife sold for $850,000 I got the value of $725,000. Cordell and Cordell is a complete waste of time, energy and money. I wish I would have represented myself after what I experienced with this firm. Grade F

The worst decision I ever made was to trust a firm that lacked integrity and courtesy. The attorney…read moreprovided by this firm, Sandra Zegarra, was inexperienced and lacked attention to detail and integrity overall. I never met an attorney who was provided with all of the confirming details that would allow her to build a strong case against opposing counsel, yet she treated my case with prejudice due to her inexperience and lack of confidence. Moreover, Attorney Zegarra failed me multiple times, to include denying me time for visitation because she failed to draft her verbal agreement with opposing counsel among many other mistakes. Furthermore, the finance department misplaced many of my payments, and they had to review my file and apologize for their oversight. Yet they treated me with no respect and even hung up on me and accused me of failure to provide payments, which was not true. An apology was extended to me from management. Moreover, a second paralegal that replaced the original person and the only person with ethics took it upon herself to provide guidance and her opinion as if she was the attorney. She went as far as telling me that if I did not like them, to go ahead and drop them. This is the way this firm allows their employees to serve their clients. This firm lacks integrity, and most importantly, they lack experienced attorneys with the desire to fight for the rights of clients as they advertise. Do yourself a favor and review the Virginia Bar. Make sure you see the years of experience and possible complaints before hiring Sandra Zegarra from Cordell and Cordell. I will not recommend this firm. They were only after money and she never demonstrated the ethics and sworn duties of her legal representation.
