At the recommendation of my Gasthaus owner, and as one of the few places open on a Monday night, I…read morewent with this option. Short drive from Liebstadt, it was completely dark when I arrived, and in the very dark Saxon countryside, it was obviously that this was my target as I pulled up - I have this funny image of the building, well lit with people inside, like some kind of warm and welcoming beacon.
It was also packed - again, probably because it was the only thing going in the area. I got one of the last small tables without a wait though, and started paging through a menu very focused on wild game - boar and venison and so on. A few menu items were already sold out, but I scored the venison and wild boar gulasch and wasn't angry about it. Great flavor in the meat and rich broth, tender warm blaukraut, a few salad greens, basically a nice hearty meal with some bread, perfect for what was becoming a pretty cool night outside.
There was just one gentleman tending bar and delivering food, and he was definitely busy, but took the time to talk to the various diners (including me, we traded ESL and GSL snippets and got along pretty well) - I think he knew almost everyone in the place, or maybe he was just very friendly. Price was also quite reasonable for the meal, zero complaints. Again, unlikely I'll be in the area again, but I would absolutely return.
