Penn Meadows Park is a solid location for softball tournaments!…read more It boasts nine well maintained baseball/softball fields, plenty of space for warmups, a few batting cages, trees for shade between games and plenty of bathrooms. My only three qualms are that 1) parking can be a bit crazy on tournament days, 2) the dugouts are insanely small with only one entrance and 3) the fields are numbered however they are named, too. You really have to scope out the map to figure out where 'OPTIMIST' field is or 'Pizza Ranch' field. (I get sponsorships, but let's just keep fields numbered as it's more intuitive...) I believe it is the largest park in NL. It has: picnic shelters, a few soccer fields, a playground, a volleyball court and some newer tennis courts. Additionally, there is a trail around the park. My 10U softball team took second place at the tournament here this weekend! We definitely enjoyed playing at Penn Meadows Park.

They offer 4 indoor tennis courts, 6 indoor pickleball courts, and 6 outdoor pickleball courts. For each of the indoor courts, they have a live camera to both view from the lobby or to record your matches if you need review or proof of winning a competitive match. Well stocked Pro Shop and Locker Rooms are at the entire which haven't seen either in many other competing centers around town! What makes Smithfield PTC special is their membership offerings for both lessons and clinics. They have a Standard membership if you are a social player or a Premium membership to allow you 6+ Reservations each month. The value of what is included in membership dues compared to what you pay is very affordable. If I were to live in Cedar Rapids full-time, I would be at Smithfield daily for their Pickleball drop-ins and recreation play. All the members I met during my stay were both friendly and inviting on and off the court. Looking forward to coming back to Cedar Rapids to visit Smithfield PTC in the near future!

If you've never seen a hockey game, or you're just looking for something different to do, I highly recommend visiting. I've always loved that CR has been home to minor league sports teams for so many years. We're lucky. Uber family-friendly atmosphere. Roughriders ticket prices have increased by several $'s since my last review in 2014, but those extra dollars are worth it. I believe there are six different ticket price points now ($13-$25), and if you're really into hockey you may even consider season tickets. Roughriders season ticket holders are a hoot...I always seem to be seated next to them. :) From what I saw, staffing has definitely decreased over the years. I didn't notice any employees except for those scanning tickets, working in the concessions stands and those manning various booths along the concourse. Back in the day (10+ years) they used to have ushers that would help you find your seats. I don't know if these ushers were volunteers from the Roughriders booster group or if they were actually paid, but it was SO nice to have them there. Within the next 5 years or so the seating in the ice area might need to be evaluated (in the very least all seats could all use a deep clean). There is very little leg room and no cup holders. I saw many patrons using the seats as steps to get from one row to the next. Yikes. Talk about wear and tear. I also agree with another Yelper's statement (see Cedar Rapids Ice Arena reviews) that if you're paying for premium seats it would be nice to see the plexiglass cleaned more regularly. Also, the men I was with stated that the men's room near sections L & N was absolutely rank. After I heard this I opted not to use the ladies room. Concessions: stick with the cheese curds. They desperately need a new soft pretzel supplier. Bar: above average selection of beer, etc. available. Expect arena prices on all food and drink. Overall, 5/5 stars. You won't have perfection across the board given how many guests go through here on a nightly basis. Expect to spend at least $50-$100 per couple (dependent upon ticket prices, drinks/food). Parking is free! Recommend.

Tried to talk to the course manager regarding refunding the extra charge and was never contacted back after 4 days. Left a note with an employee the day of, called both courses he works at, and emailed him, with no response to any of the above. Apparently do not expect to get any communication from the manager and ensure you don't have a cancellation or you'll have to eat an extra $80. Even during downpour rain for half of your front nine! There is also a playground area, batting cages, bocce courts(!), and a pond with a trail. You'll often see someone fishing along the side of the pond (by a gazebo), lots of walkers and joggers, and the many parents and children using the fields. For those attending sporting events, there is a small concession stand and indoor bathrooms as well. Parking is plentiful. My main interaction with the park is from many walks around the trail or biking through as it connects to the larger bike trail system, and it's ideal for both! It's a wonderful place for a stroll in the evening to unwind from the day.

What a wonderful sports park!…read more As an Iowa City native, I was shocked to know this existed. It is less than five years old. This review is only based on the youth soccer fields at this park. My kiddos have done Tiny Tot soccer here multiple seasons-- in the spring, summer and fall.
