We had a blast at the Shakespeare Script Room. Dee our game master was wonderful and so helpful. Out of the 17 escape rooms I've completed I would put this in the top five. The room is well themed and the difficulty level was good. There was only two of us playing and with Dee's help we got out with 8 minutes to spare. I 100% recommend. read more

What could be better than being locked in a room for an hour on a Friday night? Now, I am fully aware that that could sound like some peoples personal hell, but I totally dug my escape rooms experience.... I had first heard about Escape Rooms after two of my Elites had visited one on their honeymoon in the US. I was actually clueless about the whole thing before they had explained it's kinda like your own little detective experience with a goal of figuring out a mystery and getting out within a certain time. I don't know about you, but after years of watching Castle, CSI, Elementary and Jonathan Creek - I fancy myself a little bit of an expert when it comes to sleuthing and I fancied my chances at having a go at figuring out a mystery myself. I got a top notch team together (me, Dan, Lucy, her partner Dan and Mike) and off we set to solve a mystery and escape. First thing to note is that if you're not 100% familiar with the Jewellery Quarter, it might be a little tough to find. As a guide, head to St Paul's Square, follow the path towards the arches (heading past Anderson's and Oliver James Salon), cross the road, head under the arch and it's situated on Henrietta Street (to your right hand side). If you're coming in from Constitution, take the road opposite the Hen and Chickens to your left. I have uploaded a photo for recognition purposes. We had booked online (highly recommended as this place gets busy) and we were greeted by the lovely Jordan who explained the rules to us. You get 60 minutes to get yourself out and are handed a radio to ask for clues if you need them (you can have up to 6 clues). We had opted for the "Dr Wilson's Office" room (rather than the horror themed scenario - "Room 13") and after a brief explanation about instructions, got locked in and told to have fun. Now, I'm not going to spoil the experience for you... but be prepared to use all your noggin to figure this one out. The rules are clear and it's lots of fun, but you will need to use some of the clues to escape (unless you're some kind of genius). Our team managed to escape with 7:33 left on the clock and only 3 clues used. The best record ever was a team who had tried many escape rooms all over the world and only used 2 clues and had 18 minutes to spare. I loved this intense, immersive experience. I would recommend getting a team together (a team of 5 is £70 - so £14 each) and giving it a go as something different to do on an evening and weekend. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we're going back to try out Room 13. Stay tuned to see if we manage to get that one! read more

This place is ace. I've wanted to do an escape game for ages but I'd heard not so great things about another similar set up elsewhere in Birmingham so I decided not to go. So when I found out this place existed I was excited to give it a go! We did Room 13, one of 2 escape room options. It was horror themed, and I won't give it all away but let's just say it was well kitted out with props and the theme decoration really added to the experience. The staff were lovely too- which of course always makes a difference! We (a group of 5- which felt like the perfect number) managed to get out with 00:00 on the clock. I think you could do this will a smaller group but I'm not sure I'd recommend a much bigger group. The clues were great and all in all I had a brilliant time. The hour just flew by!! I'll certainly be coming back to try the other room, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to do something a bit different. read more

My first challenge (well second, if you include Escape Live) is how to describe this experience without giving too much away. It's going to be difficult...... I went to Escape Live the other day with five complete strangers... and had a fantastic time. We met up about an hour before our challenge, grabbed a drink and headed over to the venue. It was fairly easy to find, especially with the newest Snow Hill Station entrance just around the corner. My initial thoughts of the interior reception area were that it was pretty basic (plain white walls etc) but they certainly made up for that in the detail of the escape room itself. A member of staff met us in reception at the allocated time and we had to wait a few minutes for the previous 'challengers' to finish. The member of staff chatted to us while we waited before explaining the rules of the game and answering any questions that we had. Then it was time to begin and the six of us were locked into a room for an hour. I don't want to give too much away at this point so all I will say is that this game is extremely well thought out. Throughout the hour experience I would notice little details and it would again strike me how much thought had gone into it. As a team we worked well. It did get pretty nail biting at times but that is part of the fun. I would be interested in trying another Escape Room in the future with people that I do know to see how the dynamic changes there. Due to the nature of the game it does mean that it is unlikely that I would want to do the same game again any time soon as I now know all of it's secrets. Luckily, there is another escape room experience at Escape Live and they will be introducing two more in the near future. As long as the organisers keep on top of things by updating games regularly then this is an experience that I would enjoy time and time again. read more

I absolutely loved my first escape room experience. A bit nervous of what to expect but the 5 of us (adults) got stuck in and surprised how well we worked as a team. Lots of complex puzzles, some practical, plenty that were brain taxing and some that just required good old fashioned communication. Something for everyone. The puzzles were well thought out and varied, and the horror theme was good. The hour passed in a flash with 15 minutes to spare we found the code and saved Amy! So i felt very smug for my first attempt but the adrenaline certainly pumped and i'm keen to do another and try out Mr Wilsons room sometime in the near future. Slight issue is the address when you put it in the sat nav it takes you to the wrong side of henrietta street. when you do eventually find the right place it isn't sign posted outside either. The do have a car park opposite which is free to use. There is only one toilet to share so expect long queues if your in a big group. This is highly addictive, and great fun!! read more

Can you beat the clock? You have 60 minutes! I cannot quite write down how much I enjoyed this! You are locked in a room for 60 minutes and you have to look for answers everywhere. Two of my fellow elites Stoo and Emma had been to an experience like this in the states and I was really unsure how it would play as an experience. Have to say I was pretty excited. I felt like I was on a puzzle gameshow like the crystal maze or krypton factor. Great for team building with a small team. Even better for just two or three people! read more

Wowoowoowowww! If you must choose an escape experience in Birmingham, definitely go with Escape Live (sorry Keyhunter). Even though my team didn't make it out of the room, (we were so close!) this is the best escape room I've done, by far. For anyone who hasn't done this before: you and your teammates are locked in a room, and have an hour to get out. My team raced against the clock to find clues in 'Dr. Wilson's Office'. The puzzles were really fun and rewarding to solve. I don't want to give too much away, as that would hinder the experience, but let's just say that it was really well thought out with very high production value and many surprises to be found! Fantastically decorated, and thoroughly immersive. The staff went above and beyond and were incredibly helpful and friendly explaining everything and providing hints when necessary ;) I will definitely be going back to try out Room 13! read more

Never knew you could do something like this before, and it's totally my thing. Lucky enough to get to do this for Junes Elite event I arrived said hi to a lot of people and was split off into a group of people I had never met before and then led into a horror themed room where we had to save another person called Amy and also escape as well. So if there is ever a way for you to get to know 4 people you have just met and see if you can work together this is the way to go about it. Now i've done one I want to do more, already recommended this to some friends and need to get a group together that want to do Dr Wilson's office. They also offer a PopStar Party experience, I feel this is more for kids but everyone that had a go doing it seemed to have a really good laugh. The staff at Escape Live are lovely and easy to talk to, i'm sure you'll agree staff like that can make or break your experience. There's also a games room with basket ball arcade game, air hockey table (i adore that game) and an Xbox with kinect so theres something to keep everyone entertained. Top marks! read more

When I came here I had no idea what to expect. And by the end of night I was blown away by the experience and glad that I know of this place to recommend. I was on a group of five people and we got to go to Room 13. I had no idea what to expect. Once we got in and started working together finding clues it felt amazing. Got to be real life detective :D Room 13 is full of suspense and thrill. I loved how every detail was there for a reason and that made it more fun. Time went really quickly and unfortunately we didn't escape. We managed to get the 4 digit code but wasn't put in order so time ran out trying to escape last door :( We then got to do pop star party where we in green screen room and dancing/singing and then looking like we in a Justin Timeberlake music video. Was a lot of fun. I think doing a little warm up with playing basketball helped get blood boil and get in geeen room to do best air guitar to Greece. Great set up guys at the Escape studios/rooms. Will definitely bring my friends to try it and I want have a go at Dr wilson's room. I'm dying to find out what's in there. read more

I've been wanting to try an escape room challenge for some time now, so was really excited to go last night. For anyone who doesn't know what it entails, a group of you are locked in a room and have to solve clues to find the key to get out, all against the clock. Think along the lines of a sleuth version of Crystal Maze. We went in a group where we didn't really know each other. It had the potential to go badly with us all falling out or well with us all working as a team. Thankfully it went the good way and was great fun as we tried to figure out the clues. I am pleased to say we escaped with over 7 minutes left on the clock (and we apparently beat some guys from Mensa!). Unfortunately we cannot divulge any further details or otherwise we will have to kill you..... They suggest a minimum of 2 people and a maximum of 5 or 6 depending on the challenge you do. I would say it is definitely more fun in a group. I'm not sure you could do the same challenge twice, unless you wanted to try and better your time.... Currently they have 2 on offer and are about to start work on another 3. I'm aiming to go back and do them all! read more

After hearing from some friends about their experience doing an escape room in L.A. recently I was really excited to attempt one myself. So last Friday a team of five of us met in the railway arches on Henrietta Street with a small amount of trepidation to experience our first escape room. Escape Live offers two experiences: Dr. Wilson's Office and Room 13, the former being more Holmesian and the latter more horror based. On my first experience we did Dr. Wilson's Office but I have since been back and done Room 13 and I can happily say they are both excellent. You have an hour to figure out the clues and escape and you really need it! Due to the nature of the experience I don't want to give anything away, but I will say is challenging, nerve wracking and frustrating but in the best possible way as the sense of elation when that key turns in the lock is really something else. The staff at Escape Live are fantastic and go over and above to make sure your experience is the best it can be. Just one final word of advice. Use the toilet before you go into the room, a full bladder does nothing for your concentration. read more

Me and 5 other work colleagues booked a slot for Dr Wilson's office at escape live for our monthly work outing. One of them had already participated in the Room 13 and gave it good reviews. The location is quite hidden under one of the railway arches near the jewelry quarter. When we arrived we were greeted by the friendly staff and had a seat while they reset the room. (We arrived early) After a short brief and safety talk, It was suggested we went the toilet (only one) as we would be locked in the room for an hour. The experience itself was really enjoyable. You had to get codes and keys for locks and work out which suspect committed the crime. It was challenging and required team work. The atmosphere was tense and the 60 min count down kept you involved. We managed to get out with under 10 mins to go. Overall a great time was had by everyone. I personally think £15 person for 6 is a little over priced. But I understand the one off nature of the business and would still recommend a trip there. It seems like it's becoming a popular local attraction and they are already planning to open two more rooms. I'm looking forward to the next challenge. read more
