My first challenge (well second, if you include Escape Live) is how to describe this experience without giving too much away. It's going to be difficult...... I went to Escape Live the other day with five complete strangers... and had a fantastic time. We met up about an hour before our challenge, grabbed a drink and headed over to the venue. It was fairly easy to find, especially with the newest Snow Hill Station entrance just around the corner. My initial thoughts of the interior reception area were that it was pretty basic (plain white walls etc) but they certainly made up for that in the detail of the escape room itself. A member of staff met us in reception at the allocated time and we had to wait a few minutes for the previous 'challengers' to finish. The member of staff chatted to us while we waited before explaining the rules of the game and answering any questions that we had. Then it was time to begin and the six of us were locked into a room for an hour. I don't want to give too much away at this point so all I will say is that this game is extremely well thought out. Throughout the hour experience I would notice little details and it would again strike me how much thought had gone into it. As a team we worked well. It did get pretty nail biting at times but that is part of the fun. I would be interested in trying another Escape Room in the future with people that I do know to see how the dynamic changes there. Due to the nature of the game it does mean that it is unlikely that I would want to do the same game again any time soon as I now know all of it's secrets. Luckily, there is another escape room experience at Escape Live and they will be introducing two more in the near future. As long as the organisers keep on top of things by updating games regularly then this is an experience that I would enjoy time and time again.

I absolutely loved my first escape room experience. A bit nervous of what to expect but the 5 of us (adults) got stuck in and surprised how well we worked as a team. Lots of complex puzzles, some practical, plenty that were brain taxing and some that just required good old fashioned communication. Something for everyone. The puzzles were well thought out and varied, and the horror theme was good. The hour passed in a flash with 15 minutes to spare we found the code and saved Amy! So i felt very smug for my first attempt but the adrenaline certainly pumped and i'm keen to do another and try out Mr Wilsons room sometime in the near future. Slight issue is the address when you put it in the sat nav it takes you to the wrong side of henrietta street. when you do eventually find the right place it isn't sign posted outside either. The do have a car park opposite which is free to use. There is only one toilet to share so expect long queues if your in a big group. This is highly addictive, and great fun!!

I just want to start by saying that this is definitely not for everyone. My experience with…read moreKeyhunter has been overwhelmingly positive, but your experience may vary based on how well the group of people you are with get along, and whether you like solving puzzles under pressure! Keyhunter, the first 'live escape game' to come to Birmingham and part of the 'escape the room' trend is a really fun way to spend the afternoon with friends and family. Keyhunter has three rooms, and I've tried (and escaped) all of them! Without giving much away: you arrive at your booked time slot, and after being provided with a walkie talkie and some instructions, are locked in a room. You have one hour to figure out how to get out through a series of puzzles. The rooms range in difficulty, so there is really something for every level and age group. The more people you have, the cheaper the escape is per person, although I recommend having no more than 4 people. The reason I've knocked a star off is because I think the 'production value' of the rooms could be improved upon a bit, and I also find the style of the puzzles in each room to be quite similar (although still equally fun to solve).

After experiencing another escape room experience in Birmingham and having a fantastic time there i…read moresaw key-hunter when driving past one day. Seeing the reviews on here I was full of excitement for this. So where to start... Firstly the website advertised the rooms were 1 hour 30 minutes when intact they are an hour not a big deal I thought. Then you're lead into what I can only describe as more crack den than cold war prison... The room i chose was based around the cold war. Awesome I thought their idea of creating atmosphere was hanging up a Chinese flag and hanging some really cheap pictures of communist leaders on the wall... Wow!!! Don't get me wrong I don't expect it to be exactly perfect but it stinks of laziness. On to the clues... They were very hit and miss I loved the idea behind utilising UV lights but it was very poorly executed. Every clue was solvable with something you found from the clue you solved directly before. We asked for a clue (you are allowed 2) on one of the puzzles only to be told we were on the right track but it was trial and error. Trial and error isn't solving a clue nor is it intellectually stimulating for that to be solution... Not to mention the ink on the walls we needed to solve a clue was very badly faded... It was all just very sloppily executed. Finally the fact we could hear other teams on the walkie talkies could hear heavy traffic outside (just close the window and use a fan if it's hot...) and the fact that the people running it really don't seem to care about the thing they are running leads me to say sadly this was a total disappointment... 1/5 the 1 is for having a door that locked... Don't waste your time and money go to a company who give a dam...

Basically you get locked in a room and have 1 hour to get out which is only achievable by solving a series of puzzles and clues! Previously when doing these kind of rooms we have always chosen the horror themed ones but this time we went a bit different choosing 'Escape From Mars'. The story being you are stuck in a badly damaged science base on the red planet's surface and will die unless you figure out how to restore the oxygen supply. Oh, and there's an asteroid on a collision course to you! there were some nice little #scifi references to #startrek and #raybradbury etc. A lot of fun, much better than one we completed in Manchester, but not as interactive as some we've done in LA or Stockholm. The puzzles were well thought out and challenging, in fact we actually didn't complete the room within the time! We will say that it would benefit from more sound FX and live action play (guys in costumes). However the staff were v helpful and friendly, venue was easy to reach with plenty of parking, overall a really fun time and pretty good value for money! Definitely would come again! GROSS SCORE: 7/10
