After looking over the menu, I quickly noticed that the prices increased but I hadn't been since last year so I wasn't surprised. Since we knew what we wanted, we ordered right away. I decided on the SYM Signature Platter, which included shrimp, fish and chicken wings and my daughter ordered the Wing Dinner. We both enjoy ordering extra sides so our server saved us some money by suggesting we order the Veggie Plate. The food was great but it took almost 45 mins for it to be served. With only 4 other people in the restaurant, I assumed we would've received our food much sooner! Nonetheless, we were very satisfied with everything and our server was very friendly! We will definitely be returning but I hope they improve their timing!

Everything was seasoned well, fresh, and definitely worth the wait. And of course, I had to drizzle a little syrup on that cornbread ... don't judge me! Yes, I would definitely return! The fish was seasoned just right and the potato bread toast was a welcomed change to regular white bread(good idea chef:-)......and the beans and rice were just delightful nice and thick and seasoned with turkey sausage and meat. The food is good. The grits and greens are made with water so it's a little more runny than I like (I like my grits made with milk). The potatoes pancakes are always good, definitely a staple. I also ordered the biscuit and gravy, I will say this was not a favorite of mine. The gravy wasn't a smooth consistency and again made with water vs milk. The eggs and bacon, are just that. I ordered my eggs over medium they came out more so over well. Overall I like the Dixie, I go back every now and then. The inside feels and looks like your typical diner. I just know that they are located at 2226 W Washington St. in Petersburg, VA very close to Fort Lee base. The cashier/order taker was nice. We ordered the following: Fried chicken legs = 4 (Fresh, flavorful, & juicy) Mac n cheese = 4 Cabbage = 3 (Tasted like it was cooked in pork grease & It coated my mouth. Wasn't pleasant.) Rice = 2 (Bland & mushy) Hamburger/Gravy/Onions = 3 (Lacking flavor & the meat was tough. It had a lot of gristle.) Cornbread = 2 (Tasted old & was hard/dry. Even after warming it up, it was too hard/dry. It crumbled apart. It was somewhat sweet, so if it was fresh I know it would've been BOMB!) Candied yams = 3 (I really wanted these. They were sweet, but the texture was off. Hard to explain, but it wasn't what I am used to.) I can't say I won't go back to try something else. It wasn't the worst. I just wish I really knew the name of the restaurant. The signage is confusing.

I can tell that much love and care was placed in this establishment as Miss Karen told me it was named after her daughter that passed away from a car accident and she was the only one of her children that cooked well. She stated that she had been in the Petersburg area for many years with other locations, but this is her most current location. They have mini vegan options that are cooked with no meat to allow for a healthier selection, so if you are a pescatarian or vegetarian, this is a friendly place for you to. I ordered the three-piece flounder lunch special, which came with two slices of white bread, fish, french fries, and a 12 ounce drink. It was made fresh to order and it did not disappoint. Again - Well worth the wait. I have to emphasize that because at first glance, there doesn't look like much. There's one buffet stand with a small salad stand at the end, a carving station, and one dessert stand tucked in the corner. I consider myself quite the connoisseur of down home Virginia cooking, and it can be hard to find a place that gets it right, but Nanny's knocks it out of the park. The parking lot isn't jumping for nothing! A lot of the reviews mention the items available in detail, and the menu rotates a little, so I'm going to stick to the highlights. Navy bean soup - outstanding and very soppable. String beans - perfectly cooked. Mashed potatoes topped with some hamburger steak and gravy - homemade and melt in your mouth. Crispy crunchy moist fried chicken. Seasoned and tender greens. All the BBQ offerings - traditional and flavorful without doing too much. The desserts? Fresh out of your gramma's kitchen. I did almost take off a star because the banana pudding didn't have any whip or meringue on top, but everything was so outstanding I'll let it slide :) The price is, I think, more than fair for the quality of the food. They also never let anything run out for too long and fresh supply was in and out of the kitchen regularly. Top that off with friendly faces, quick service, and an atmosphere that's more like being at a family reunion than a restaurant, and you've got one heck of a spot for good eating!

First Problem though... No Menus. I've Never been to a restaurant that didn't have menus. I had used my phone to get directions & saw a there was menu tab, so I ordered from that. My Sister had a piece of chicken & 2 veggies. Veggies good! Chicken a bit dry. My cheeseburger was good. Onion rings? - batter just fell off all the onions? under-cooked? When it came time to pay, my sister's bill was about 25% more than the ticket. She questioned it & the cashier said the ticket was wrong. My sister responded that's what was on the ticket & if it was a staff mistake, not the customer's fault. Cashier charged per the written ticket. But there was a hint of attitude after she did it. FYI, the waitress was good! Checked on us, refilled drinks. Ticket issues not her fault & I'll explain further. My bill was 50% more than the website menu. When I questioned it, the cashier pretty much ignored me. I struggled to find it again on my phone and a different menu format came up with different prices (only 25% more on this one). Cashier wasn't listening & a line was forming behind me so I just sucked it up & paid. My sister said she'd return & just get veggies because they were good. I might have gone back for the food, but I will not for the "sketchy" pricing. Two different website prices, tickets & cashier use different prices. Maybe that's why there are no menus? They make up the prices as they go & the customer is just stuck paying more than they were led to believe.

I definitely went at the wrong time and on the wrong day because by the time we got there, it was club time. We only wanted food. We didn't want to party & dance. The music was extremely loud & they allow smoking inside (& I mean all kinds of smoke too...#weed). I don't smoke, so that just made me nauseous. There was 1 security guard at the door patting everyone down. He also didn't have a problem urinating on the side of the building & going right back to patting down people without even attempting to wash his hands. GROSS!! I truly have no words because he didn't even try to hide it nor did he go to a spot no one would see him at. He was practically on the curb. Food: When we ordered, they were out of candied yams, so I was bummed. We ordered fried whiting, onion rings, and fries. The food was hot and fresh. The onion rings were over cooked though. They give a huge block of cornbread too. It was a little sweet but not too much. Parking/Safety: You can park on the street or in their little lot. I'd try hard to find parking on the street if I were you just in case something pops off. There's A LOT of riff raft going in and out of this place. I was worried something was going to happen the entire time I was there. They need to up the age limit or something. They were really too rowdy both inside and outside the bar/club. Definitely not my cup of tea. This isn't the safest area as is, and the way people were coming in droves made me that much more anxious. No one was wearing a mask either & there was no limit to the amount of people they were allowing in the building. I won't say I won't ever go back. I will just say it will be in the daytime and never again during club hours. Hopefully next time they will have candied yams & I won't have to be frisked by their disgusting security guard.
