Missing bed parts. This company also operates in Stockton, California. I had to rent a uhaul and helpers because the truck driver refused to drive into my apartment complex. Moving day - they stole items out of our fridge, gave us the wrong moving window then blamed us for being wrong, threatened me when I reminded them about a few items that needed to be removed from the wall, then broke valuable and breakable items on purpose in retaliation After moving day - originally acknowledged that the service had been unacceptable and promised us for weeks that we could speak to someone higher up to get the situation evaluated and have our compensation adjusted. We proactively reached out on multiple occasions. Then in the 11th hour refused to let us escalate and held our items hostage until we wired additional money. After delivery - never followed through on financially paying for the items they damaged and were impossible to get ahold of. They didn't return a single attempt at outreach. When I filed a better business bureau complaint, they ignored it and I learned they had a BBB rating of an F. Don't work with this company. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY ESPECIALLY MOVING TO/FROM BOSTON (GUARANTEED TO BE CHARGED A SHUTTLE FEE). I paid over DOUBLE my initial estimate. Though moving companies are doing well in COVID (per Ernest), they will not hesitate to scam you. Even after finding out I was a healthcare worked who had been deployed to COVID units in NYC, the customer service manager had no hesitation to add on costs and fees. I had hand measured everything the night before pick-up and measured 520 cubic feet for a simple 1 BR move from NYC to Boston... I was advised to request 667 cubic feet just in case, reassured that I would not be charged for space not used (ugh please learn from my mistake and don't fall for this trick). When I asked the foreman to have my estimate adjusted, he said that I would get a call the next day for an adjustment since my items were going to storage for a week (storage was supposed to be included, so not sure why that would have mattered). I asked for certain furniture to be packed a certain way to take less space, but he waved me away and said not to worry - he implied the estimate would be brought down. Red flag, red flag, red flag! I never got a call as promised. I called the customer service manager, Steve. He said based on how my items stacked, my items took up over 800 cubic feet so I was lucky I wasn't charged more. A 1 BR NYC apartment for a single person takes over 800 cubic feet?? I don't think so... I had purged a lot of my belongings as well. Then, the company called the day my move-in to inform me they would charge me $500 for a shuttle. Steve said that all Boston moves require a shuttle because their large truck won't fit in the entire city of Boston. Funny that was never mentioned before. Funny that I've moved within Boston multiple times and never had a problem. Another person at Ernest informed me that the driver had been by and didn't think he could bring a large truck to the front of the apartment. I explained that my building actually has a loading dock made for massive trucks... and I had booked that loading dock in advance. I sent photos of the loading dock, but then I was told the street was too narrow. I live on a 5-lane road with the lane closest to my building used for unloading trucks... My friend has had her car picked up by a car-carrier truck in front of my building with no issue. When the movers showed up over 6 hours late (by the way, NO ONE kept me in the loop, and at this point, Steve the customer service manager threatened to charge me $5000 if I tried to contact again, so terrified, I stopped contacting them), the driver had no idea there was a loading dock, and the movers admitted that any-sized truck could fit there. So why did I get charged $500 for a smaller truck? Turns out they were using this rented truck to pick up another move in Boston after my drop off. So guess I paid for the rental fee for this other mover. Setting aside that I paid $1.5k more than my initial estimate, my most appalling experience was with the customer service manager, Steve. He absolutely should be fired. He belittled my educational background and mocked my ability to read contracts. When I revealed that I was doing this move alone and was stressed, not wanting to exacerbate a delicate medical situation, he said if I contacted him again he would charge me $5k before returning my belongings. Funny thing is... I'll be doing a large move to California next summer. Had this move gone remotely well (and I already have low expectations for moving companies), I would have used their services again. With moving expenses covered next year, I would have gladly paid whatever was needed. As an interesting unrelated tidbit: literally everyone of the guys who came to move us "didn't believe in COVID." Gave us a real hard time about how much stuff we had and how expensive it would be, didn't come anywhere near quote, told us not all our stuff would fit (I went down and looked in the truck, 60% full when done). Their packing job was very bad. After unpacking: - found 10-15 boxes that were only half to a third full (they get paid more if there are more boxes!) - found unwrapped glass objects just thrown in with the rest - found perishable food they just snapped up and stuck in a box (it rotted, gross). On the plus side, they were generally pretty friendly and moved a bunch of stuff, so if you're in a pinch and willing to overpay, carry on. read more

Because of the quarantine, I was helping a friend oversee the moving of all his things into a storage unit nearby. Everything was pretty smooth, the packing, the moving, they two movers had friendly personalities. But when it came down to money, it turned for the worse: 1. On the invoice they double charged on packing materials, I had to get the broker's manager to talk to their manager to get it sorted out. 2. Tips: one mover was very vocal about what he was expecting. One mover asked me what percentage I paid for at restaurants, and when I gave my answer, that's what he was expecting as tip. He even calculated on his calculator and showed me the total amount he was expecting. 3. I had to fill out a survey, but while I was doing it, he stared at the paper giving me more pressure than needed. It was uncomfortable. read more

Their website says that shrink wrap and wrapping blankets are free of charge; then after loading, the driver gave me the bill, after the deposit of $1,050 and tried to collect 70% including $390 for tape and blankets. Neither the 70% collection or addition of $390 was expected. Delivery was scheduled for 3pm July 1, 2023. Driver will not arrive until 7pm. Had called them (Alex and Don) to understand the ETA. Noone responded back with any information leaving us hanging. had to realize ourselves by 3pm that the move was not happening since there we no trucks which arrived and no response from anyone. Don does an excellent job of following up until the deposit it paid. After that he simply disappeared passing the buck to Alex who I understand is the owner of the company . When they delivered our stuff, half of our items were destroyed. They also transported my husband Harley and when it went on the truck it was flawless and when it was delivered it was destroyed. About 12,000. Worth of damages. Our 80inch TV was packed in a TV box and Padded but the top was crushed and now from the pic you can only imagine. They have no care for your things. We had container with zip ties and those were cut off. I had an office desk completely destroyed the mover threw it away when they got to my place. Pic posted. I can't express it enough, pay the money for a reliable company because in the end they add 5,000. More for extra fee, read the contract word for word. moved from NYC to Austin. A few things: I have no idea how my cubic feet went so over when almost everything was boxed and you can calculate it. My estimate was more than twice the original. Whatever, it's crazy times right now, I was just glad the guys who came to NYC were on time and did a decent job. I gave them a really nice tip to thank them. However, the guys who came to unload in Austin were an absolute joke. I have photos and tried to contact the company about this and they have ignored me. I gave them over a week to respond to my email. They showed up with a dolly or any sort of wheels. One guy was literally dropping my boxes from the truck and when he wasn't doing that he was sitting there texting while the other guy brought in my stuff box by box. I almost felt bad for them but then quickly remembered they did not bring the one thing movers should have, some sort of dolly. The process took forever and I had to do a ton of work. Consider I paid almost $4,000 for this move, this really made me feel like I got ripped off. They were both wear flip flops. They also took down several branches in the neighborhood and left a path of destruction. I could see the way they drove in. It's a big truck, not totally sure if it was their fault. However, something that is absolutely their fault is that the back of the truck slammed into my mailbox and cause very noticeable damage. I sent photos of this and the company has ghosted me and not offered to make it right. I also realized I am missing a box and they broke my exercise bike and I had to ask the guy not to lift it they way he was while I heard it cracking. I had to ask 3 times, but because their English was not good he did not understand me, ignored the awful cracking sound and broke it. A few of my other items were broken. Maybe it was when the first guy was dropping the boxes from the truck? I figured 2 stars is more accurate than one since the pick up team was decent, but I would never use this company again or recommend them to anyone. Took over 3 hours to drive from NJ to Stamford which is an hour drive. Racked up the hours to double the price. Basically held furniture hostage till you pay their fee. Move was completed at 1230 AM. Charged me $1080 for the move and wouldn't unload truck till they were paid. Tried to call owner but no answer . I would say more than half the items were broken, dented, scratched and just lost. Also, there were water stains on items for some reason. They don't care at all about your furnishings, valuables, art etc. They just want their money and believe me they won't deliver unless you give them your money first. Booked them as their rate was comparable to other movers and paid the deposit, they arrived and packed everything for a 4hr move out of state. I currently have a Better Business Bureau complaint against Ernest Moving & Storage. They still owe me $499 from a move back in June. They bent a pendulum on a grandfather clock by shoving it into a box & taping it closed. I paid extra for a wardrobe box & when it arrived all of my clothes that were on hangers were not hanging from the bar in the wardrobe, they were just thrown into a pile in the bottom of the box. Another white nightstand was never covered & taped. It arrived chipped & dirty & had to be repainted. Ernest Moving was hired by MegaVanLines (also awful). The men that did the physical work were fine but didn't speak much English. Mega VanLines is washing their hands of this mess & now have advised me to look for the overpayment of $499 from Ernest. Ernest said they never work with Mega even though I have their bill with their letterhead all over it. It's been a nightmare. The guys that delivered our stuff to FLA didn't care that if we paid the amount that they had on their bill that we would've overpaid by $499. They were holding our furniture hostage unless we gave them what they wanted. They wouldn't take the stuff off of the truck. I figured I'd pursue this & would be reimbursed. I have gotten nowhere in 4 months. My advice is to check the BBB on any mover you're considering using & find a reputable company even if they cost a little more. read more

This company is a joke. Scheduled to move on a certain day. They kept calling days before to try to move that day because they had a great crew available. The night before they called and said they were pushing back the arrival time. From 9-10 to 12-2. The crew arrived at 2PM and stated that that was way more than was quoted and that the truck wouldn't fit it all. I went to see the truck and they sent a 12' truck for a large 1 bedroom apartment. I contacted the business and was told it was a 17' truck. I used to drive a 17' box truck and knew damn well it wasn't. Either way, the guys seemed nice enough but they did not fill the truck fully. They said they contacted the owner and he told them just put in the truck what was on the inventory that they had. Which was completely inaccurate. I called to complain during the travel between the apartment and the house and the manager called the driver of the truck stating things I did not say and causing an issue between myself and the crew. Very unprofessional, very poor experience, and downright trash company. Best part is that when they show up, they tell me it is cash only... STAY AWAY!!! I was moving out of a Jersey apartment to a house just a town over also in New Jersey. I contacted Ernest moving & Storage, I believe I initially talked to Justin. He sounded decent and nice. We scheduled for someone to come out two weeks prior who quoted $1400 for the move. Three movers came in at 11a, one of them being Andrew M.on moving date. They were one hour late but that was no deal breaker. As they were wrapping the items, Andrew walked up to us and said that the price went up an additional $1300 because it will take them 8 hrs. What??? A total of $2700 for an apartment with 2 regular size bedrooms, a small bedroom with a twin size bed and a room where the living, dining and the kitchen are all in one. I was not happy but we only had 2 days to vacate the apartment so we agreed to pay (Price change #2). The movers were very slow and unprofessional. They were taken frequent breaks together, going downstairs to smoke, to rest and joke. We bought pizzas and drinks to share with them. It was 10:09p when they wrapped up.I was tired but relieved that we were finally going to the new place and unload. Then Andrew informed me that they will have to delay unloading the truck until 11a the next day. I was not happy, I asked about my belongings. He said they will be safe in the lot. I was upset, disappointed, exhausted and concerned but I had no choice. I informed them that the delay had nothing to do with us and that we will not pay any additional funds. Andrew assured me that it was not my fault therefore we would not be charged. He then strangely asked for a tip. We ended up spending the night at a hotel since Everything was in the truck. The next day upon arrival, Andrew informed me that it will take them an extra 6hrs to unload the truck and that would cost us and additional $900 (Price change #3). When we refused, he threatened to take the loaded truck back to the lot and keep it until we pay. He became aggressive! My husband decided to pay to put an end to the madness. However, Andrew requested the $900 in CASH instead of Zelle. My husband sent the funds via Zelle. The confirmation receipt came through but Andrew stated that he did not receive the money and still demanded cash. He said he was leaving and proceeded to walk toward the truck. My daughter was standing in the driveway next to the truck, he ordered for her to move and got close to her. That is when I called the police. It was frightening! The police officer came and after verifying with my bank that all 3 payments requested were received, he ordered for them to unload the truck. I was helping to oversee a move for my boss. Ernest was hired to pack and move two homes for my boss in Upstate NY and Brooklyn, NY and store the belongings until they were taken cross-country to Portland, OR. The broker that hired this company for me, Five Start Moving Company, estimated the move at less than 50% of what it ended up costing, yet we didn't know this until the day of the move when Ernest Moving was there and packing. Overall, I think the broker did a terrible job of preparing them for this move. Ernest did a fine job on the upstate house, but came a week late for the Brooklyn home and did not give themselves enough time or people to pack the house. They arrived around 10 AM, maybe a bit before, on a Sunday, to pack a three-bedroom home. They only brought two movers. The assessment and final estimate took some time and they did not start packing until almost noon. Throughout the day, as they packed, they called in additional staff and, by nighttime, they had six people on the job. They did not finish packing until 1:15 AM Monday morning and they were rushing to finish. One of them told me that this was the biggest job they had ever done. They were told there would be an upright piano, yet they did not bring any equipment to aid with moving this piano down a flight of stairs. As such, they attempted to do with only the brute strength of four men and the front left leg was broken off. They poorly packed a number of items. An antique lamp was very poorly packed and broken in several places. Several pieces of antique crystal glassware were broken. A vase was packed in the bottom of a box with a heavy wooden furniture item on top of it--shattered. Paintings on canvases were poorly packed and are now stretched and warped. On top of it, they were smoking on our back deck and in front of the house, discarding cigarette butts everywhere; talking loudly to each other until 1:15 AM (with tenets in our downstairs apartment trying to sleep); and none of the movers wore a mask in the middle of a pandemic. This was the worst experience we have ever had with any vendor. They oversold and under delivered. Our move was on June 1 and we were moving into an apartment that had a strict moving time from 10am to 2pm. We booked this well in advanced and the person that my wife spoke to an emailed stated that the movers could put our new stuff that was still in the box together. That they were professional movers and would be there at 8:30 on the day of the move. We called them at 8:30 to hear the truck broke down and they would be there at 11:00. When we called again at 11 we were told 45 minutes. they got to our house to 2pm. At that point our move time was over but the apartment building let us move in any way. The movers were unmotivated and unable to put things together and almost dropped our piano after we were told they were charging us 65.00 to wrap the piano. They were not able to put anything together and still charged an extra hour. What was suppose to be an hour truck drive took an hour and half and lied about traffic. Due to COVID there was no traffic. I called the company to complain and the salesperson kept apologizing to me until the movers left then blamed me for their mistakes. We called customer service the next day when they told my wife she would get 100.00 refund and an apology from the owner. We received 50.00 deposit back but no letter from the owner. Buyer beware. If I could give this company negative stars I would. We moved to Northern California from NYC. Ernest Movers are super shady. They forced me to pay them via Western Union which is not at all what was agreed to. The payment was flagged as fraud and returned to me. They then insisted on the cash app. The movers were awful. Only one spoke English. I gave them very specific instructions on some items I absolutely did not want to be packed and they packed them. They labeled no boxes. Upon arrival i found stuff that did not belong together packed together. They threw spices and syrup and pasta in boxes and they spilled everywhere. My beautiful China' was packed haphazardly. They spilled bleach on my luggage ruing it. They didn't wrap my beautiful bookcase and it is ruined now. They took almost 9 hours to move my stuff out and added all of these extra fees when they arrived because they had to park in the loop next to my building. They held my things hostage and would not answer my calls for close to 3 weeks. And then when they were two hours away i got a text saying they were coming and that i owed them $1500 more than i actually did. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! They are AWFUL!!! Their customer service rep hung up on me twice when I asked to speak to the billing department. I will also be reporting them to the BBB. They deserve to go out of business. We are lucky that our expenses were reimbursed. These guys suck and I have never experienced such bad customer service and care. If you are reading this review run as fast as you can. We have spent more time trying to find things in the boxes then it would have taken to pack ourselves. We were ripped off and violated. read more

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY. If I could give Zero stars I would. I booked them for a local move at the end of August. They were supposed to arrive at 9 am. I received a call at 10:30 am from "dispatch" and was told that the truck had graffiti on it and that they needed to clean it up and would not arrive until 11 am. I tried to call Steve, the person I booked the service with in the first place and could not get an answer as to what was going on. "Dispatch" called again and said they would be arriving even later, I asked if I needed to call the police, as I had paid a deposit and this seemed like a scam, the man on the phone screamed at me "Call the police and have them move you" and then hung up. Finaly got back in touch with Steve who gave me another person to call and said another truck and crew would arrive in an hour. I called the other person, Andrew, who was supposed to help with getting the other movers there. Around 2 pm, I try to get in touch with Steve and Andrew to see when the movers were to arrive and was told "No Clue they are in traffic". Then received a call from Andrew and was told that the truck had broken down and they would not be able to send another one until 6 pm. The truck never arrived and I was not refunded my deposit. They also refused to show me a certificate of insurance for the company. Do not use this moving company. read more
