The lady on the phone was so very sweet and helpful. We placed a large order for our extended family. We were greeted with a lovely smell of soup and other wonderful items as we entered the deli. The girl at the register has been consistently rude and unfriendly, and even had someone else ring me up instead of helping me herself. Most recently, I came with a friend for the haunted maze. When we asked the host where the line was, she just kept laughing and repeating "it's right there," even though there were multiple lines and it was unclear where to go. The whole interaction felt dismissive and disrespectful. It's really disappointing to see how the atmosphere has changed -- it no longer feels welcoming, especially toward Hispanic customers. I speak perfect English and was born here, but the attitude I experienced made me feel unwelcome. I won't be coming back.

You can get local veggies, meat, dairy, and pantry items for a really good price, no more than you would pay at the grocery store, and I feel great knowing that I am supporting local farms. It's really easy to put in my order, select what I want each Saturday and then just sit back and wait for my delivery. I also love the recipes that they send for ideas on dishes to make. I go through Checkout #1, and was rang up by a #Teeter Associate. I was tempted by the sales, and purchased far more than what I had originally gone in there for. I pay with my card, and ease over to the Customer Service counter to play my Powerball numbers, after my items are paid for and bagged. Afterwards, I head towards the door, briefly looking at #Starbucks mugs and glanced over at the holiday candy that was being stocked. In my peripheral vision, I see 2 Managers easing to the front, 'incognito,' or so they thought, but I still didn't give it a second thought, that is UNTIL my cart locked up at the door on a dime. My original thought was that I had ran over an item on the floor, so I tried to move again. By the time I looked up, a Teeter Associate was at my cart with a scanner to UNLOCK the #AutoCartLock that #HarrisTeeterHT have now installed on their carts. When I asked the Associate why my cart locked up, she said, "you were not at the register long enough for the system to deactivate the lock." Like, #WTF!!! What the hell you mean I wasn't at the Associate manned register long enough, when my receipt look like a long #CVS receipt, and it's almost as long as my damn legs, and I'm 5'10" tall?! I didn't use the self-service registers, and have ALWAYS refused to use them! She unlock the cart, and apologize. That's not gonna fly with me! You don't lock my cart up, while other customers behind me walk out without incident! I'm NOT buying the BS they tried to sell me!! I turn around and go directly to CS. Those same 2 Managers come to the counter in an attempt to explain away the stop, NOW blaming it on a broken sensor at Register 1. Now, for the sake of argument, if they KNEW the auto-release-lock sensor was broken, why open the damn register when there are NUMEROUS other registers to open???‍ I'm NOT buying the explanation, because they know as well as I do, why they stopped ME, and not other customers!! Plain and simple, I was stopped because of the color of my skin, PERIOD!! I refunded EVERYTHING on that damn receipt!! I was too humiliated and mad to accept the TWO weak explanations they tried to peddle!! A day before #VeteransDay and this is what I encountered after clearly being scanned by their Associate!! You start out thinking it's just a farm market but inside, the place has all the usual farm market suspects--fresh produce, baked goods, meats--but then you notice the food counter. That's where things go sideways in the best possible way. The sandwiches are flat-out good, not "good for a farm store," but actually good. And the breakfast burritos are not normal human-sized food. They're the kind of burritos that make you reconsider your life choices halfway through eating one, in a positive way. Outside is where Messick's really shows off. Kids running everywhere, farm people doing what farm people do, and enough seasonal activities to keep families occupied until everyone forgets what time it is. It's the kind of place where parents sit down "for just a minute" and then suddenly it's an hour later and nobody is in a hurry to leave. If you're rolling in with a camper, it also works as a Harvest Hosts stop, which is a polite way of saying you can legally fall asleep there without anyone bothering you. Parking is easy in a grass-and-gravel area that's simple to level into, and once the day crowd clears out it gets quiet in that good country way. Verizon signal holds up well too, which is either a blessing or a curse depending on how hard you were trying to escape emails. What makes Messick's dangerous is that it's not trying to be anything other than what it is--but it ends up being more anyway. You go for a quick stop and leave feeling like you accidentally spent the afternoon at somebody's family reunion, except nobody made you help clean up afterward. In a world full of overcomplicated stops and underwhelming food, Messick's is refreshingly simple: good food, good people, and just enough chaos to make it interesting.
