Here are some favorites and things we would and would not get again. Good: pistachio eclair, raspberry cream puff (light and very good!!!), mini puffs, Le snickers (great for dark chocolate and nut lovers), beauharnais (dark chocolate on a vanilla wafer, told that this is one of the most popular items) Ok: cream brûlée, Belgian waffle, macaroons, brownie with hazelnuts, originae baguette Pass: napoleon (too sweet); meringue cake; They also sell macaroons. They are cheaper than most places (0.90 euros each) but it is not as good as Pierre Herme or Laudree because the shell/texture is more chewy. However, they are definitely not bad and you get two for the price of one. We tried all of the flavors and the strawberry was pretty good. I usually love pistachio but I didn't care for their pistachio macaroon. It is located in a small side street and the hours vary (closed Monday, afternoons, and Sunday evening). The shop runs out of stuff if you go later in the day. I heard they might have sandwiches during lunch time.

This was one of the best bakeries we stopped by in ALL of France! And it was so inexpensive too! Like questionably so. There was indeed a line out the door even later in the afternoon, but it was well worth wait. If you're looking for your choice of baked goods however, come early! They were sold out or selling out of things when we were there. We had no issue finding something we all loved though! We couldn't wait to dig in so we just popped a squat a few feet down in an alley and ate our faces off! The shop is small and takeout only. The kind women behind the counter spoke no English at all, but a little pointing got us a long way. The shop is located on the cutest of stone streets! It's passengers only and lined with flower boxes and parked bikes with baskets. A stop here a perfect quintessential French experience....it's exactly what you imagine buying pastries in France would be like. We parked in an underground lot just down the block and paid by the hour. This went hand in hand with our visit to Chateau Fountainbleu located a few minutes away . We unfortunately don't speak French, so order was a bit tough - I was better off pointing at the items. But a very kind lady behind us could understand better what I was trying to order when attempting to pronounce the items compared to the cashier/baker. Anyway! This place is definitely worth a try if you're in the area; some of the better pastries I had while staying in France. I only wish the items were warm(er) upon ordering.

Then, spending most of our time in the historic district, we didn't realize what we had passed until a couple days later when we caught a train to nearby Ambois. We sheepishly tucked in for a bite once we saw how delightful all the baked goods looked (we had JUST finished breakfast and certainly didn't need more...). Absolutely exquisite! The coffee - and especially the hot chocolate - are also wonderful. We're back today and wish we had know of this place earlier; definitely the best breakfast spot in town. Well worth the short walk up from the historic district!

I agree with Bertrand and his review…read more Staff are friendly, place looks good and is well situated. The sweet pastries are good and ' correct'. The two staples the baguette and croissants look good but neither is crispy. Loss of a str for each. Few alternatives in this small cute town. Maybe go there but just don't order a baguette or croissant if you like it crusty.

When I moved to France for year, everyone (including my "1,000 Places to See Before You Die" book)…read moresaid that I had to go to LaDuree on the Champs Elysees. I thought it was pretty amazing until I found Frederic Cassel. Yes, Cassel is better than LaDuree. The macaroons and desserts seems a little fresher and a little less dry.. and it seems like less of a "dessert factory" where Cassel puts more into each thing that he makes. He even took one of my classmates under his wing as an apprentice because she showed such an interested in chocolate! I was super lucky that this place was in Fontainebleau, where my school was located. There really isn't much at all in Fonty, as we call it, but this little gem more than makes up for that.

Their savory section such as the salmon tart looks colorful and amazing However, I bought their pistachio and cafe macaron. I feel it's extremely sweet and sticky inside. I didn't enjoy it much because I could only taste sugar inside. I heard some shop in Paris is a lot better called something like Pierre Hermes.
