It is an outdoor museums that showcases life in Sweden hundreds of years ago. They have a number of historical buildings, including one that is the oldest in the area. Each building is either furnished with period items or it is a museum with a theme such as printing presses. Two castles, a cathedral and the Viking museum.. it was a long day, but I wouldn't change anything. I'm just glad Hamlet was doing the driving! Did I mention that the actual Shakespeare play, Hamlet, is presumably set in Kronborg Castle? Our trip was timed for us to see part of the play - the final scene, the sword fight between Hamlet and Laertes, was in the grand ballroom!! So fun! Christianborg Palace is unique in that actually houses rooms that are used by the monarchy, the…read moreSupreme Court, the Prime Minister and the Parliament. For the purposes of tourists, only the royal section related to the monarchy is open for exploration. The ticket that you purchase depends on how many parts of the royal section you wish to visit: 1) Reception room - where the Queens holds meetings 2) Royal Stables - where the horses and carriages are held 3) Royal Kitchen - where the meals are prepared 4) Ruins - the ruins underneath the castle If you have more time, you can see all of them. For me, the best part was easily the Reception area, where you will see many rooms constructed with very colorful and exquisite architecture and filled with luxurious paintings, furniture, and tapestries. This area is so fancy they actually make all visitors wear blue shoe covers to protect the floors. It is also worth it to go up the tower (free entry) where you get amazing views of the city.

Christiansborg Palace is actually pretty wild -- it's the only place in the world where the government, the prime minister, and the Supreme Court all work in the same building. And under it, there are literal castle ruins from like the 1100s that you can walk through. Plus, the Danish royal family still uses parts of it for fancy events, so it's kind of like government offices + ancient history + royalty all stacked in one spot. Funny story. There's this extremely long dining table (see pics). You're not supposed to sit there but the tour guide said a family sat there to eat lunch one time.

We spent the morning roaming the trails of Dyrehaven. We were looking for a great taste of nature…read moreand hoping for a deer sighting and it did not disappoint. We enjoyed walking thru an empty (not yet open?) Bakken upon entry and then wandered up to Hermitage. We encountered a doe and fawns within 10 minutes, as well as many birds throughout. We hit the jackpot after reaching the lodge, where we walked upon a large herd. Just gorgeous! After spending a while admiring the beauties, we headed off towards the Taarbæk exit to find lunch and back towards the train station. Beautiful grounds, lots of (occasionally marked & mapped) trail options, lovely trees, and stunning deer. A great day in Denmark. :)

When I think of Dyrehaven, the thing that comes to mind is all the times I enjoyed walking through…read morehere as a child with my family. Usually on a day where we had also been to Bakken we would take a stroll through Dyrehaven with either a picnic or to see if we could catch a glimpse of some deer. Now as an adult I still love Dyrehaven just as much! I generally come here just for the sake of enjoying Dyrehaven and not after a day of being at Bakken. Dyrehaven is such a beautiful place and it's perfect for a relaxing walk, going for a run, bike ride or a picnic. It's a big place to explore with many different paths to take that it's always really enjoyable! Plus, It's always such a thrill when you see deer in the distance. Beautiful!
