Perhaps I can't afford shopping here (with the exception of very special occasions) but the magnetic poll towards sparkly vintage pieces had me at hello! Custom jewelry, Canadian made diamonds plus a sparkling case full of Edwardian and Art Deco vintage pieces. Sure, it's all fantastic, I'm obviously a fan, but why the 5 stars? It's the stories that were affectionately told to me that melted my heart: a cigar box engraved with a child's name circa 1933; a beautiful purple enamel locket with a picture of a lost lover; "Ladies Pinch" a locket for rouge with a mirror worn by ladies of the night, suffragette necklaces... I could have spent all day there! I was astonished at how sweet the service was. Suggesting I try on pieces, even though I was just browsing, sharing stories, even giving me advice on visiting as many jewelry stores as I could before making any decisions. They've set the bar high for any other jewelry stores I venture into that's for certain! And given me a taste for some bling :-) read more

I have the most beautiful and original sapphire ring from Era and I still get excited every time I see a new Instagram post even though I'm not even looking for anything anymore... sigh... :) They had wonderful customer service both in store and via email. Thank you, Rosemary, Althea and team. read more

Anything that could go wrong did go wrong. I chose this place to make my wife's engagement ring, but because of all the hassles leading up to getting the ring sorted we went to MJ Jewellers to get our wedding bands (no issue and fabulous service there). In the end the engagement ring was redone 3 times and my wife received it one month after our wedding, then took it to MJ's to be sized properly. Issues ranged from chipping the diamond, making the ring out of a material they were told my wife was allergic to, being accused of not telling them of the allergy, rude service on a separate occasion, ring size being a full size bigger than requested, ring size being too small, etc. We will however give them credit for taking the time to try and fix the issues, but unfortunately the difference in ease and competence at the other jeweller made the comparison night and day. read more

My engagement ring is from here. I love it! The quality of the diamond, the fine detail of the workmanship of the gold! I love it every time I look at it! read more

Rosemary is a fantastic artist and really helped me through the whole process of designing and creating a gorgeous engagement ring based on a vague idea of a design I had. We were so impressed with the result that we had her design a complementary wedding band. Both pieces make a unique and individual statement. She was very patient assisting me select a beautiful Canadian diamond too. Unfortunately the process was slower than I hoped, but the results were worth it. Also, the men's wedding band we designed looked great at the time, but hasn't stood the test of time as well. I guess the gold was too soft for the wear and tear it gets. I also have to note that of all the jewellery stores I visited on my search, this is the only one at which I did not feel judged, and was made welcome every time I visited. read more

I LOVE Era Designs. I love the vintage jewelry and the original designs. My husband bought my engagement ring there and after purchase we had it appraised by an independent appraiser. The ring was valued at 2.5 x more than what we paid for it! They have great aftercare service and clean and service my ring for free..for life. The staff are positive and friendly...and I believe this is my favorite jewelry store in Vancouver! Thanks Era Designs! read more

I walked into Era excited about designing a ring and the woman behind the counter was such a buzz kill I considered asking her what the hell her problem was, but I took a breath, hung in there to see where it went as I told her what I was looking for. As we spoke she took her edge down a few notches, but there is nothing warm, inviting, or friendly about this person. When people come in wanting to design rings that represent very special times in their lives the last thing we want is an impatient, angry-eyed sales person behind the counter. Seriously, be warned. If this woman serves you, don't expect even a hint of a smile. She should either stay behind the scenes or get some therapy. Whatever is pissing her off need not be projected upon customers walking in prepared to spend thousands of dollars. read more

30 Days of Yelp: 1/30 I first became aware of Era Design years ago while reading the pages of the Georgia Straight. I always meant to visit - their timeless, vintage inspired jewelry always caught my eye, and their special engraved pieces - wow! I never dreamed I would own anything from there, but here we are... While shopping for engagement rings, we went to Birks, we went to Cartier, and while everything was beautiful, I never really fell in LOVE. Let's just say that I didn't know what i was looking for in an engagement ring until I walked through Era's doors. On a whim, the beau and I decided we would go there before meeting with our run club, and 1 hour later, ended up putting down a deposit on a lovely, elegant ring! Trish was amazing - I never felt dumb for not knowing much about diamonds, and I wasn't intimidated - the atmosphere was super welcoming. Trish seemed like our kind of people - she joked with us, seemed genuinely interested in who we were, and helped us every step of the way. She even called the engraving design we wanted, "scrolly action". Haha...that about sums it up! She wasn't pushy or trying to get us to spend more, and didn't mind that I wanted to try on so many styles and was indecisive. Even with my nervous butterfingers (I dropped a ring on the floor), she didn't freak out...though we all stopped breathing for a moment. Yikes. I went in with just a vague idea of what I liked in a ring, and she turned that dream into reality! After we decided on details (19K white gold, centre stone with diamond halo, and smaller diamonds on the band, with engraved pattern), she took the beau aside to discuss discreetly the details of the final pickup - how classy! A week (or was it two?) later, she showed us the wax cast & sketch of what the ring was going to look like so we could give them the go-ahead to make the ring or make changes. I love the fact that everything is custom designed and very flexible - they're not gonna fit the diamond you choose into a mass produced piece and charge you $$$$ just for the name brand. You choose the diamond, and everything else is made to measure around it. The whole process was so painless, we are definitely looking forward to going back for matching wedding bands! And anniversary rings! And birthday gifts! Etc.! Hinthint.... read more

I am so appreciative of all the staff at era design; not only do they design and create amazing ethically sourced diamond rings, they offer insanely good customer service. I had a random/unknown metal allergy and they worked with me for weeks to resolve the problem. I don't know any other business that are so kind and patient. Thank you Era Design !! read more

The staff person that 'helped' was arrogant, impatient, and impolite. The store had a paltry selection to choose from and the reception upon entering the shop was frosty at best. We had reasonable questions and the answers provided made us wish we never asked. We were also interrupted at least 3x. If we commented on a particular style (liking it or not liking it with brief explanations why to help her understand our taste), the rep's answer (in a dismissive and snotty tone) if we didn't like a particular style was "well I think it's nice - maybe it's not for everyone". It was a frustrated experience and totally lame compared to the red carpet treatment we received in other independent jewelry stores. Not impressed and definitely will not be going back. Too bad because some of the designs on the website are nice. read more

This place came recommended from a friend who got his wedding bands custom made here and I visited them a couple times to look at the rings they had. The ladies here were incredibly helpful and patient. I felt very welcomed and the women who helped me, explained a lot about the rings that were on display. Even though they make custom rings, my fiancée's ring was already made in the display case, but it looked just right for her. I unfortunately overestimated her finger size and it ended up being too big, but they were very helpful and made us feel very comfortable when we came back to get it sized. We were told it would take approximately 2 weeks to get resized and have the seam re-engraved. To my surprise, we were called a week ahead of schedule that the ring was ready for pick up. Still looks gorgeous and they did a great job on the resizing (from 5 1/4 to a 4!). We'll likely come here to get our wedding bands custom made. read more

I'm in love with this jeweller! A true professional, Rosemary and her team deliver amazing rings and jewellery with a magical vintage feel. I love their style and I am so proud to own a piece of their work. I have to give credit for the discovery to my fiancé who sought them out to design my engagement ring. He had an old family diamond that he wanted to use and the 3 jewellers he went to before were all too hesitant to do it, as the diamond was over 100 years old. Rosemary at Era was happy to take on the task and design a lovely ring that complimented the diamond beautifully. We decided to go back and get my wedding bands designed there as well and I was blown away by the time she took with us to design them and the amount of attention to detail her and her wonderful staff took in order to create the pieces I'd be wearing for the rest of my life. I can't thank them enough and I will most definately be going back to purchase other pieces form their collections. read more

I found Era Design from a random search on Google for custom jewellery. I couldn't have been happier with my entire experience from 1st point of contact, to final sale and beyond. I am very surprised about the comments I've read below from other posters about poor service as I found both Althea and Trish to be nothing but helpful and transparent. I was looking for a unique engagement ring for my soon to be fiance and I know NOTHING about the process of buying a ring. I left the store learning alot about my options and appreciated their flexible return/refund options in case she didn't like the ring (she loved it). I got nothing but smiles and helpful advice and would highly recommend Era not only for their unique and custom designs but also for their service. I will be back looking for wedding bands and other nice rings. read more

After many refusals and lots of attitude from other local jewellers last summer, I found Era design on my way home from work......I parked my truck and went inside hoping to find a Rosemary. ....I felt welcome and at ease with my budget and my design ideas. From start...and start again we found the final gem stone and design I was looking for, Trish was straight forward and a no BS lady when it came to stone choosing. The seizing came later when my lady and I were leaving for Europe, the ring was put in priority mode and we left with it on time.....what a great experience from start to finish. ..XO read more

I was very hopeful to have my engagement ring designed here. I already had a center stone to work with so I emailed ahead of time and I knew that they may or may not be willing to work with my stone as they have a policy about not working with stones purchased online. However they asked me to bring the stone and relevant documentation into the store to review and so I did. I could not believe how rudely they treated me in store. I'm not sure what the official roles of the two women I dealt with were, the one working at the counter was at least courteous, but the (owner/designer?) was demeaning and acted as if I was completely clueless about gemstones. They refused to give me a straight answer about whether or not they would be willing to work with me and my stone and kept insisting that I needed to get the stone further evaluated for my "own peace of mind" (I explained repeatedly that I had the stone evaluated locally already and was quite satisfied and confident that it was perfectly legitimate). They are entitled to have any policy they wish regarding working with items that aren't supplied by them, however I did contact them beforehand and they suggested I bring the stone in, thus wasting my time. How they treated me was just completely bizarre and unexpected for a business. They would never give me a straight answer when I asked whether they would work with the stone or not, they stated they would "look into" the documentation I had provided regarding the stone and the seller but never did. I would not recommend this shop for anyone looking to have custom designs done, I don't imagine the process would be a rewarding or enjoyable experience. read more

I don't know about the rest of the staff, but Rosemary was great. My boyfriend had a pendant custom made for me, and I wanted to add an engraving to make it look more ornate. Rosemary spend a tone of time drawing out the design I had come up with to make it fit on the pendant. I think you need to go in having a good idea of what you want, I had a good experience and LOVE the piece they created for me, it's very unique and pretty. They ordered the stones I wanted and combined it with the design I asked for in a way that exceeded my expectations! read more

Being a first time ring/diamond buyer I didn't really know what to expect, or how to go about the whole process. The first time I was in there it seemed as though it would be a great process and experience to have a custom engagement ring designed with them. Both the diamond specialist and ring designer seemed very nice. After my next appointment to look at actual diamonds is when my experience faltered. They brought three diamonds in, all very nice ranging from $4000 - $7000. They said I had one day to make a decision or else they would send them back and next time the price would be greater because their supplier was increasing costs. I let them know four days later that I had made a decision and wanted to go with one of the diamonds. They informed me they had returned the diamonds as stated and if they brought them back they were unable to take off the price increase (which was $300). Really, they quoted a price and four days later that price increases by $300? They couldn't just take this off from their commission? This showed me that they obviously didn't care one bit about their clients and how ring shopping doesn't happen in a day. I was extremely disappointed in my overall experience because of all the nice rings they have and can create. I don't recommend this store to anyone who is a first time ring buyer. I felt their diamonds were over priced and their care towards the client is lack luster to say the least. I hope the next custom store I go to takes more passion in pleasing the customer read more

I was happy with the service I received but I was really upset with my quote and then final cost. They quoted me one price and then when I went to pay they added a $150 for polishing on top of the quoted price. It was very sneaky and I was not pleased. read more
