I had a bad experience with O'Flaherty Landscaping in Whitby. Among other work, they applied…read morepolymeric sand on my pavers on May 17, 2026. Subsequently, when it rained, the sand was washing away. On June 19th, Jim O'Flaherty and a rep from the manufacturer came to assess the issue. Jim clearly said that if he uses a sealant, it will solve the issue. On June 20th, Jim applied a sealant. On July 3rd, when we had heavy rain, the sand was still washing away making a mess. I took pictures on July 3rd and sent an email to O'Flaherty Landscaping, which was ignored. I also called Jim on July 3rd to let him know and he said there is nothing more he can do, falsely blamed it on the sand and said to deal with the manufacturer. This is against the Consumer Protection Act since the contractor is ultimately responsible to fix the issue. On the Google review that I did, O'Flahertys responded with lies to save face. They also said they put more polymeric sand on July 3rd before they sealed it. This is a lie. They only sealed it. They also lied that the pictures I attached to my Google review was before the remedial work. The remedial work was done on June 20th and on July 3rd, when we had heavy rain I took pictures and sent them an email with the pictures, as mentioned above, which was ignored. They also installed new sod as part of the project. Subsequently, there was a big dead patch of grass. Theresa gave me a black bag of soil. Again they lied saying they also gave me grass seed which they did not. The manufacturer told Jim to call me to fix the issue but he did not call. The manufacturer told me the sand is not defective but that it was incorrectly installed. Jim is not owning it but instead chose to abandon me. I have all the emails and conversations documented as proof in case I decide to take next steps.

This was fine as we trusted Andrew and felt comfortable with the company. The job itself was pretty well done but the customer service and treatment of their customers leaves a lot to be desired. There was no review of the work done. I raised a couple of concerns and they were abruptly dismissed by the owner of the company with some unprofessional responses. Simply pay the balance of your bill. Then it turned into the fact that he felt he was doing us a favour by doing our job as it was a smaller job for this company and according to Andrew they only book jobs larger than $10,000. This would have been fine if he told us this from the start and we would have looked for another company but he was happy to book the job at the beginning of the pandemic and take our deposit. To this day I have not had anyone come to look at the work the crew completed and they have not addressed any of my concerns or questions. It seems like a small job like ours ( even thought it was a lot of money to us) isn't worth it for them and as a result they don't treat you well or with consideration. In the end the work was ok but they do not make you feel valued or take ownership of their work.

We contacted Andrew from Whitby Shores Landscaping in mid May to do a fairly sizable landscaping…read morejob for us. It involved a lot of labour of removing lots of stone from our backyard and side of the house and extending our driveway. He came by promptly to do measurements in order to provide us a quote. A week went by, still didn't hear from him and sent him a text to ask for a quote which he provided within a few hours. After some back and forth negotiations we agreed on a price. We provided him a deposit which secured us a date, he said at the beginning on July. Over the next month, we sent emails and text messages back and forth to pick out pavers for the job. When all was decided, he sent an invoice in which the price increased by around $1000. I asked him why and he mentioned that the pavers we picked were more. I went back to our original estimate and showed him this was not the case. It got all sorted out and I thought everything was fine. I asked Andrew to resend the invoice and asked for an actual date when he could start. I tried to email and i sent him a text message on two separate occasions. He never replied to me. Fed up, I asked my husband to call him and deal with it, even though Andrew had been dealing exclusively with me. My husband called him and got a confirmation that he would start July 13th. On July 11th, we were suppose to have a bin rental delivered to our house. My husband texted Andrew that morning to make sure he had the correct address. At 5pm Andrew replied back saying there was a death in his family and he wouldn't be able to start on Monday but would contact us in a few days. We waited almost a week and didn't hear from him so my husband sent him a text stating we had scheduled a BBQ for the following weekend and wanted to know if the backyard would be done. He replied back saying that he was taking a month off and shutting down his entire business. Obviously disappointed but we were sympathetic. Andrew said he would send us back our deposit. We found it a bit odd that he didn't try to reschedule us in a month. The following week, I checked Andrew ' s company's Facebook page and saw that he had posted new pictures of a job that he did. My husband called him and he seem to be caught off guard when my husband asked if he was still working. He denied it, but he didn't really seem to have the reaction someone would if you were being accused of something. We left it. A few weeks passed and we still did not receive our deposit back so my husband sent Andrew a text. It was at this point Andrew admitted that he had two crews working this whole time! I think what annoyed us is the fact he wasn't completely honest with us. If you say your whole company is shutting down then our understanding is that no one is working. We eventually found another company and they came to do the job two weeks later. We wish that we never had dealt with Andrew and wasted so much of the spring/summer months. Buyer beware!!! Get multiple quotes, there are a lot of competively priced landscaping companies in the GTA.
