The forecast was an ominous one…read moreheading into the morning, but Mike was ready when a window of opportunity opened for us to get out onto the water. We started by fishing for specked trout and were rewarded by staying persistent on a spot that Mike targeted as a "honey hole". Afterwards we worked our way up towards and area parallel to the Arroyo Colorado. Working our way through some vegetation-covered spits that had unseasonally hugh water around them, we were able to start casting for reds. Within about an hour we had three keepers. Next we headed towards Rattlesnake bay. Again due to the unusually high water (rest of the mainland was flooding with torrential rain) we were able to creep in on some sand covered bottoms. We hooked up on our last keeper red and then decided to call it a day. As it turned out we got to Jim's pier, had the fish cleaned and were on the road after parting ways with Mike but just in time before a heavy storm hit the island. Our timing and trip was perfect. Mike was patient, curteous, persitent, and a good teacher. Exactly what we needed after being away from bay fishing for so long and what's needed in a guide. Thanks again, Capt. Mike. Hopefully we go fishing or try hunting in the next few months or so.

He also cleaned the fish, a few we checked with didn't. While fishing boats can seem small to people who have never been, Mark's boat was big enough for 7 of us including him to move around the boat and have places to sit. He did all the baiting, casting and cleaning. If we wanted to cast he let us and gave lots of tips and attention to my 12yo son. We had 3 kids he was super patient especially for an experienced guide and helped them have a good time. It wasn't the best day for fishing but Mark was fully committed to us having a good time and finding the fish. We still caught plenty and had a great time. He provided breakfast tacos, a cooler of water and other drinks. It was $600 for first 2 people, $100 each additional. While we were out his fish finding gear was down but because he is so well connected he had other guides texting him and telling us where to go. We found some big black drum and gorgeous trout thanks to Mark and his connections. It's just good to know that if something unexpected happens he has a brotherhood of other guides willing to assist. I think that says a lot about him. Mark is high energy, passionate and a great guy!! He had a couple of meeting place options, we picked Lobo Del Mar. so sort that out with him other options were Jim's pier or something else too. We did Lobo and had the cook the fish after it was like $13 per person and came with a side. The beer battered was our favorite but the blackened was yummy too, they also had grilled or panko fried as well. Was like he says, Good Times & Tight Lines!

We did land several large Trout. Just not our limit. With that said, Capt. Bode treated my nephews as if they were family. At the same time he's going to every sweet spot he knows to help us catch the trophy fish we all want. Maybe it was the several nights of a full moon, we just had a hard time finding the fish. I live and work in Dallas and I fished with several Port Isabel guides but none work as hard to guarantee that everyone has fun and great memories. If you a skilled fisherman or a firs ttimer I can't recommend a better guide.

Capt. Kevin delivered a great experience for us on my first day charter fishing trip in South Padre…read moreisland. He went above and beyond by not only being punctual in the morning, and relentlessly helpful throughout the day, but also giving us extra time since I had mentioned I really wanted to get onto some redfish. He wasn't the type of guide to watch the clock and bring it in on the dot, he wanted us to catch fish. when we went out there was a tournament happening so there were a lot of boats around. That wasn't an issue for him though as he knew exactly what he was doing and caught us fish around the tournament. Would absolutely recommend.

Captain Kevin was exceptional at making our fishing trip a memorable one. We caught several fish, though not all were keepers. Captain Kevin was quick on the go to find different types of fish and if they weren't biting within a few minutes he knew where to go next to find them. My son and I also learned a lot from Captain Kevin since we are not familiar to saltwater fishing. Captain Kevin was very knowledgeable of the surrounding area telling us about the history of the bay. He also kept us out a little longer to try and catch some more keepers but to no avail. Regardless, we had the best time fishing in the bay that day and my son can't wait to go again. Definitely will recommend this charter to my friends.

But he didn't over-explain it either. It was just the right combination of educator and personality. We maxed out on trout and got a skip jack as well. We then made the decision to go after some other red fish. We weren't able to catch any, but did reel in a bunch of catfish, which at least kept us busy. We all had a great time and the 13-yr old gave it a 9.5 out of 10!

Day one was a tough as the island had four straight days of significant wind and the Bay was dirty. We fought through it and brought in a decent haul of trout, including a couple of Gafftoptsail catfish. Day two was significantly calmer, and we maxed out on trout in the first hour. We then were able to haul in a few reds, flounder, a blacktip shark, and a big skipjack. Capt. Paco is the right mix of great fishermen/capt and personality. He's patient with amateurs and a good teacher. Capt. Paco brings his own bait. We've had previous guides that waste a significant amount of fishing time finding the shrimp boats to purchase Croaker (and made us pay for it). Capt. Paco filets the fish himself without charging $1 per filet. (I'd recommend a tip for this as some other Captains have outsourced this job).

Captain Gary Farmer at Angler's Choice made a great first impression! He seemed knowledgeable, easy going and prepared. I immediately knew we were a good fit and scheduled a 5 hour bay fishing excursion that very weekend. His 24 ft Carolina Skiff was roomy and comfortable and the perfect size for the 5 of us to fish. Short of our beer and food, he provided all the supplies (tackle, bait, rods/reels) that we could possibly need for our trip. When we arrived at our first fishing spot, he reminded all of us how to properly cast before handing over our poles. Something I was particularly thankful for, as it had been so long since my last cast. Every time we would move to a different location, or change bait, he'd share the best techniques to catch our fish. We caught a ton of fish! Our final haul included 9 trout and 1 2 ft red. My original instinct about Captain Gary was right on. He was friendly, knowledgeable and more than prepared for our trip.Additionally, he told us when to come back to catch particular types of fish and was able to answer a variety of random questions I had about the local wildlife and flora. Our plan of attack on future trips to the beach will involve going fishing with Captain Gary immediately upon our arrival, so we'll have all the fish we could possibly eat for the rest of our trip. Save yourself the trouble and guesswork of choosing a fishing guide and go with Captain Gary. He's the best!
