We had contracted ABI for all our electrical on our new log home but when our building inspector…read moretold us we had to replace an entrance light just inside the door we called Adam back as the inspector would not sign off until the area was better illuminated. We asked Adam to come back as I had the light and he just needed to install it. He refused as he had already been paid. He had us in a jam as our building permit was about to expire. We then found an electrician( Vebro) in Voyager Village who owned a cabin in Voyager and came over, had the job done in 15 mins. and $100.00 later. So the saga continues when we plugged our dryer in the outlet that he or his (ABI)help installed the breaker kicked out. The combo washer/dryer was new so we thought there was something amiss with the unit as we had never used it before. We called Jeff's Appliance Repair Service and they reported that the outlet was wired wrong. I told Adam to check it out and he replied that the outlet was faulty. The appliance technician said that was NOT true as has very high tech equipment that my dryer was only getting 120 and not 240! Then my bill for that office call was $126.60 form Jeff"s Appliance. Now I asked Adam to reimburse me for the expenses I incurred due to his obvious indifference to my request to do his job. That was $226.60 but I still have not received any reimbursement for all the trouble and expense I incurred to this date. So folks if you want an electrician who has a short fuse and cannot accept responsibility for giving you what you signed up for be sure to call Adam/ABI Electric at 715-866-5115. The rate scale is not low enough for me to rate this guy so I was forced to check 1 star.

Comfort By Design - Gas Burning Fireplace

    Comfort By Design

One morning in the beginning of December our carbon monoxide alarm started going off and woke me up. I ended up evacuating myself and my three cats after it went off a second time and after talking to my husband and opening windows and stuff. We knew it was the furnace because we don't have anything else besides our dryer that is gas. My husband got Chuck Fryer from comfort by design to come out and look at our furnace. He DID NOT RED TAG the furnace, but showed us his meter going up saying there was carbon monoxide. He said we need a new heat exchanger and a new burner and it would run us about $1,700 for labor and everything. I'm SO glad we got a second opinion!! We had a guy from a different company come and he took the burner out and showed us that it was not broken. Why would our furnace be broken two years after it was installed? Because it was installed wrong and cheaply to sell the house. The only problem was the soot at the bottom, which is now thought to be from running out of propane before we moved in. This guy also brought his $200 carbon monoxide detector, didn't detect any in the house with the furnace running, and tested his detector out for us with truck exhaust to show it was working. He said the guy from comfort by design most likely had the meter reading heat and not carbon monoxide, which is why we saw the level rise on the screen, and he said this is a common scam tactic. Considering we are young and new homeowners, this guy Chuck Fryer thought we would just pay it. IF OUR FURNACE HAD A HOLE IN THE HEAT EXCHANGER, IT SHOULD BE RED-TAGGED! This was such a scary experience and I would hope no one has to go through this. DO NOT let comfort by design anywhere near your HVAC system!

When the part arrived, I wasn't able to install it myself, but Comfort by Design was able to send out a technician to do it. There was a travel fee and hourly charge, but the price was fair. The technician was competent and friendly and cleaned up after himself. I knocked off one star because they kind of messed up with my invoice, twice. No malice involved, I'm sure, and they were cheerful about fixing it.
