Entertainment Trader reminds me of the good old days of Cash Converters. When I was young, Cash Converters used to just seem to me to be a magical treasure trove of old Sega Mega Drive games, cheap and nasty guitars, old televisions and DJ decks. Honestly, I just used to go into these places and want to buy everything in the place. Entertainment Trader concentrates on selling reasonably priced electrical entertainment items along the lines of decks, guitars, speakers, computer games, dvds and lots of other similar items. The shop is clean and well set out, with actually a really good selection of everything they're selling. Entertainment Trader also buys your old electrical items off you or offer part exchange, if that's your deal. It's located just off Market Street on the High Street. Go for it. read more

Entertainment Trader has been on High Street, Manchester for many years, it is opposite the Manchester Arndale and close to the old TEA42, as an independent alternative to second-hand and trade-in giants such as CeX and Cash Generator, of which both have stores nearby. Recently, the store has been marked as "closing", it does appear to be the case, but the store is falsely claiming it is their "last day" open, and this has been the case for multiple weeks. I find it wrong if the store wants to close they should give a day to customers in case of any returns and confusion, and lying about the day being the last for around a month is ridiculous, and it also breaks the law under the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive of the European Union. The selection of the store has never been too good which is why I can see they're closing down, most of the products seem to be older, for defunct consoles such as the Nintendo DS or just old CD's, they don't seem to be getting the latest releases anymore and this hasn't been the case for a while. The overall feel of the store is basic and kind of ALDI like, the staff didn't seem too friendly either. Considering this an illegal law breaking practices, misleading the consumer I feel the store deserves a one-star rating. read more

I bought a smart TV of this man, on the phone, he said he was called Bobby, I later find he is called Asil Ashar. He delivered the TV to me and was quite rude and very eager to take the money and leave with no receipt given to me or help or advice on how to set it up. after 15 to 20 minutes the telly screen jutters and is unwatchable. When I tried to speak with him for a refund he put the phone down on me and has been unreachable ever since. Do not buy from this man who boast of his Rolex watches etc he will rip you off. May have just been a one off but our experience with this shop made me not really want to go their again. We took in some items to sell and before we even got to showing everything, the guy at the counter pointed out that we were carrying empty crates and asked if we'd sold stuff to other shops. When we told him we had he just said 'you should have brought them to us'. I thought this was quite rude since it really isn't any of their business if we've sold to other places, nor is it going to change the fact that we already did it. When we came back after the items were tested, based on what they were selling similar products for, it felt like we got short changed. It wasn't that big of a deal for us as we just wanted to shift the stuff but if we had the time I'm sure we could have gotten a better price pretty much anywhere else. I would never recommend anyone purchasing anything from this company. They misadvertised the product I bought dramatically, so much so that I wouldn't have purchased it if I knew it's real condition. I was promised a DJ controller in its original packaging but it arrived with no power supply, no Usb cable, wrapped in an Apple bag as its packaging. As well as this, I returned the item because it was completely faulty and did not work at all. Upon trying to get a refund, I was avoided on the telephone and never called back once. Whenever I talked to someone in the shop they were rude and evidently frustrated with me. It took me 2 weeks of constant phoning to talk to the owner who is apparently the only person who can authorise refunds which is rediculous. Because I was receiving no help from the owner or the shop, I opened a pay pal dispute to get a refund and the company have been lying about the faults I encountered. They have done this so that they can make money from me by offering a partial refund. It has been over 2 months since I returned the product and I still haven't had a refund. Never deal with this company, as they have proven to be liars and swindlers who do not look after their goods, and will manipulate people or services to make fast money. read more

The manager / proprietor is rude, offhand, abrasive, and appears to have no knowledge of how to actually talk to customers in a polite and civilised manner. It's quite rare that I have to say that about anyone. It's not in your face, it's more subtle than that. Unless you actually buy something he will make a point of displaying his irritation that you have (from the way he sees it anyway) the temerity to come in and only browse. (If you weren't actually potentially interested in buying something then why would you have bothered to go in ?! But he is seemingly too rude and thick to realise that. If you try a guitar and then decide against buying it, don't try another unless you want this clueless guy to subtly show his displeasure and irritation. I went back to try another guitar when the shop was empty and was told "we are too busy"....what a joke. Go in any proper musical instrument seller's store and compare the difference. There you will find people who probably play themselves and know that you need to try several guitars before making a decision...and will not brusquely say "d'ya wan it...yea?...no?" I felt like saying something but knew it would be a waste of time. You can't instil in people natural customer service skills where they don't exist. The guy, a middle-eastern looking man, apparently the owner looks disturbed and stressed all the time, I walk past the shop sometimes, I live nearby, I went once to sell a phone, he was rude and once I finished with the transaction I stayed a bit in the shop to look at the DVDs, I couldn't find him again behind the counter, atmosphere was cold and unfriendly. I am giving one star, because you can't give 0. Avoid, they do better prices at cex.com over the road in the arndale, plus the staff is more friendly. read more

Where else take 4 weeks to install maps onto a Tom-tom which they say should take two days. And then they tell you that your goods are locked away in a workshop un-repaired and that is without even knowing who you are or what you are telephoning them about. Sounds like a blanket fobbing off to me. Not recommended, Entertainment Trader need to understand they are the service WE are the customers who keep them in business. I made the mistake of buying a second hand or used "technics sl1210 mk3d" from this store. Big mistake. I originally made an offer of £500 for this turntable through the website "reverb" and was promptly told £600 was the lowest the manager could go on it. I decieded to buy it on the premise at that price and its overall condition plus it was a purchase made in a store advertising friendly staff and good customer service. I handed over my £600 in cash ....and recieved the turntable unboxed and wrapped in a black bin bag tied with cellotape....ok maybe I still have a bargain here.....my second mistake was that I wasn't able to test this turntable out as it was inconvienient to set up a mixer in store and it didnt come with a headshell (cartridge with stylus). At the asking price of £600 (you can sometimes pick up a pair for 800) I still had some basic expectations. If it was needing some attention I figured I could have it completely serviced in Didsbury for under £100. I got it home safely, set it up properly on a flat surface and using the correct amount of anti skate to weight arm ratio of the headshell (I bought 2 ortofon as this deck was to make a matching pair bought seperately). I also set the tone arm height leaving the tone arm completely horizontal using a small circular engineering bubble/spirit level after setting the turntable feet. It immediately came to my attention that the tonearm was sticking somewhere between the centre pin and platter edge causing the audio to sound somewhat crunchy and deteriorated.....this is due to the anti skate fighting against a damaged or worn tone arm bearing that was sticking at a certain point either due to ware and tare or damaged in transit due to the tonearm clip not being used when manually moving the turntable. The natural draw of the grooves on vinyl to pull the tone arm into the middle is effectively balanced by anti skate to stop it just sliding into the middle over the top of the grooves. Ok....so next thing was to ring up entertainment trader and explain the problem. I was asked to bring it back to the shop where it could be looked at. I brought it back into the shop boxed in polystyrene and was given a reciept to say it was to be tested for a fault. I was at this point strangely denied my opportunity to clearly explain and demonstrate the fault as I found it at home which would of only taken 1minute. Assured it would be looked at by a qualified sound engineer with over 25years experience I began to relax.... Phew....I thought...he/she will/should spot this immediately. It was arranged that I was to ring up on the monday or after to find out what his opinion was. Tuesday I rang up and it was explained to me that it came back fine, absolutely nothing wrong with it....verbally assured that it played audio and there was no fault found with the tone arm. Alarm bells went off in my mind at that point and I contested this. I was then drawn into a debate about consumer rights as that was all I had to secure a second opinion and was repeatedly talked over while I failed in trying to explain how he could easily of tested it himself (there are even simple yt videos that explain basic set up and fault finding for technics...) or he could of allowed me to show him as I have 10 years experience of setting up technics in clubs and bars myself). Anyway he wasnt having any of it. His mysterious sound engineer was the only authority on the subject that trumped my meagre knowledge on the same equipment. I paid quite alot for what I could easily prove wasnt fit for purpose but it seems in certain situations its to no avail. Evidently in typical contradictory fashion he no longer sounded as confident regarding his earlier statement that the turntable was fine, which logic would determine (if true) meant he wouldnt of suffered any loss refunding me and putting the turntable back on sale with complete confidence. I asked about the sound engineer as he ( the store manager) said he (convieniently) knew nothing himself about turntables (and didnt care to learn either when I offered to show him), he said he was (convieniently) away in Ireland and the turntable was (convieniently) not in the shop. At this point I have had no contact with the store manager after this last conversation, I cant get through to him. I have no evidence nor have I been offered any to show he has actually sent the turntable off at all to be looked at and he (convieniently) still has both the turntable and the £600 I paid for it. All I have is 2 reciepts. I bought it on the 23rd of December 2016 is now 13th Jan 2017....21 days after my original purchase. Doubt I will see either now. read more
