He opened up several bottles of Barolo along with his personal and passionate experience with the Barolo wines. He knew it down to the vineyard Andy possibly row the grapes came from and how the wine was made. There are new and controversial ones. He is my main source for all future Barolo's and Barbaresco's. Also, the shop had great other wines from Italy and France Chocolate was another great find here. High quality! There were other items and foods as well, just like a great delicatessen . We saw/purchased: - lots of wine in all prices from 15 euros to more than 200 euros for a bottle - wine for tasting from a fancy wine dispenser - you can choose from 8 bottles and 1/4, 1/2, or a full glass - various corkscrews for purchase - some clothing for purchasing - books - postcards - tons of posters - we bought one for Zack's dad that was 8 euros Most importantly for us, the man working the register spoke perfect english (he'd lived in New York) and recommended restaurants for dinner including the Michelin star restaurant, Locanda nel Borgo Antico. We decided to venture to this special restaurant and it was phenomenal!!

Fabulous wine store with "so much more"…read more... Strolling the streets of Alba this evening, I came across Enoteca Le Torri. They have a large selection of wine - specifically most from the Piemonte region. (A lot of Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo, etc...) I was specifically looking for Brachetto d'Acqui. And since it's difficult to purchase Brachetto in the States, I made sure to buy one bottle tonight. I don't think it'll last much longer than the balcony of my B&B tonight... ha! But fortunately they had a bunch of little "reminder signs" in the store alerting you that they can ship wines internationally. Other than wine, they also had some nice gifts - -some pastas, and a bunch of various cookie bags, other food products local to the area. Glad I stopped in... they were friendly too!

An amazing winery with amazing view (and great wines too)…read more We had hired a local guide to facilitate our visit to wineries in the Barbaresco region and she brought us to this lovely winery perched on top of a hill. Since it was summer, it was just the two of us and our guide so we felt like VIPs meeting the owner and having the chance to taste a number of the current releases of their wines from the less common Favorita grape and Riesling, to the Dolcetto and Barbera to the interesting Long Now blend with a nod to its charitable foundation. As with most Italian wineries we have visited, you are made to feel very welcome as they work to explain their approach to their craft. In addition to the fine, mid-priced wines, the other reason for a visit is the amazing views. They are perched on top of a hill with breathtaking panoramic views from the tasting room looking all across the area. A delightful spot to spend some time and taste some beautiful wines.

Another great winery in the Barolo region serving a variety of great wines…read more This 4th generation establishment has been recently expanded and updated with a beautiful modern tasting room and professional English speaking staff. Our visit started with a visit to the cellar to view the operation (a welcome respite from the soaring temperatures when we visited) followed by an extensive tasting back upstairs. We were taken through a wide selection of thei wines beginning with Arneis followed by Barbera, dolcetto and then their multi-vineyar Barolo. We then were able to try a single vineyard Barolo and finished with a sweet moscato. Note: essential to book ahead-they don't take walk ins. We were with 4 others, 2 from Norway and 2 from Finland. The finish couple were on their 10th visit to stock up and were big fans of the vineyard. The tour was the typical walk through the cellar, look at big barrels, etc. Wines were definitely worth trying.

You have to make private reservations for wine tasting and it's normally around 15 euros, so make sure to call ahead. This place was super accommodating and let us come on short notice. We then proceeded to get a very full tour of their entire cellar and facility followed by a 2+hr wine tasting. We tried tons of wines with very generous pours. It was great to try the same wine from different years and try to tell the difference and see what we liked best. The only reason this isn't a 5 is that there weren't as many wines I loved as I would have hoped. It was a great experience though and we learned a lot about the region and wines from the area.

They make a Barbera, Freisa, Arneis, Grappa, Dolcetto, Rosé - and more. I especially love that they keep naturally-occurring sulfites low, which meant a clear head the day after we enjoyed the bottles we bought there. And at 5 to 10 euros a bottle (direct from them), we were wishing we had rented a bigger car! They speak English almost fluently, and Marco speaks French as well. From the moment we arrived, the family made us feel incredibly welcome--going out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and engaged. The tour was personal and informative, with generous time devoted to explaining the winemaking process in a way that was both educational and enjoyable. We've visited many larger wineries, but Abrigo Fratelli stood out for its charm, character, and heart. The wines were absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced--we couldn't resist purchasing a case to ship home. We also picked up some of their exquisite honey and even a bag of freshly harvested chestnuts! This is a must-visit if you're in the Piedmont region and looking for an authentic, down-to-earth, and truly memorable wine experience.
