Tip: The Enniskillen ice cream club is a digital rewards program. You sign up with your phone number. Every ice cream purchase gets you closer to redeeming points towards ice cream and milkshakes.
I have been a fan of Enniskillen General Store since I visited its flagship store several years ago. It had a butter tart festival next door to its store and I loved it a ton. To this day, I dream about the raspberry coconut butter tarts that were divine.
I visited this store often afterwards. I'd get a baby cup of ice cream or sorbet. It carries the Kawartha Dairy brand. It is the best.
It has slowly expanded over the years, having locations in Oshawa, Bowmanville, Courtice, and this one in Peterborough. I used to be able to say that I've stopped by all locations. I am missing Courtice now.
I checked off Peterborough on Sunday. After having a nice time at Peterborough Veg Fest, I felt like a frozen treat and remembered that I hadn't visited this store. It was on my way out of the city, heading back to Markham. I stopped by.
It's in a small plaza. There was a pizza place two doors down that was doing steady business. I parked near the door and entered.
There was a lone man working there. He was super nice and patient.
I looked at all the Kawartha Dairy tubs of ice cream in the freezer. I finally spotted lots of The Tragically Chip ice cream. In collaboration with The Tragicially Hip, it was crafted in Bobcaygeon, which was fitting. It has maple whisky-flavoured ice cream, with dark chocolate chunks and black cherry ripple.
I was tempted to get a tub. The problem is that I have a tub in my freezer that I need to consume first.
I let the man know that I was going to get ice cream in a cup. I normally get the baby size. Think of it as a medium. You get two different flavours to enjoy.
I got these flavours:
- Raspberry lemon lime sherbet
- Ripe raspberry sorbet
The latter is my favourite. The former sounded good. I hadn't had it before.
Sherbet has milk in it. Sorbet is dairy-free. I am borderline lactose-intolerant, but can enjoy dairy with Lacteeze or an equivalent.
He scooped my sherbet and sorbet in a cup. I browsed. I saw everything from candy to cold drinks. This store also has beer, wine, and cider like its flagship store does.
I am guessing that a convenience store was previously here. It looks like one looking at its exterior. It feels like one when you walk in.
The man asked me if I was with the ice cream club rewards program. I wasn't sure if I was. He checked with my phone number. I am!
I learned that can can log on to Enniskillen's RewardUp portal to check my balance. I am a newbie, so I don't have enough points to redeem anything yet.
I paid with a credit card. Done!
I thanked this man, took my cup of frozen happiness, grabbed a spoon and napkins, and headed to my car. I sat there eating my frozen treat. A couple in the car parked next to me were enjoying their ice cream cones.
There are picnic benches to sit down. It was a warm day. I liked being in my air-conditioned car. The catch is not making a mess.
The raspberry lemon lime sherbet was excellent. It's one of the best combinations that I have had in sherbet in a while. The flavours were bright and citrusy. The raspberry was delicious.
I love the ripe raspberry sorbet. It's my go-to flavour. The raspberry is so flavourful. I really should get a tub of it because I love it so much.
I'm happy that I got to visit this store. It's a nice addition to Peterborough. It does steady business like its pizza counterpart. I'd return when I'm in the city.
