After months of telling me, "don't worry" and "this is common, we'll handle it" Scott had done nothing about it for 9 months! When I got a final notice in the mail, now totaling 20k, their advice was "just pay it all and we'll try to get some penalties back later". I asked what have they been doing for all this time, and I got some wishy-washy response. I let them go because of this at the beginning of this year(2026). It also turns out that they didn't file my taxes for 2024 and didn't tell me. I have several friends using HBK and they all have negative experiences. I'd save your money and go somewhere else.

No details just one line stating I owed X amount for preparation of my income tax. Now, I expected an increase - everything has gone up, but I would have expected a company the size of HBK to be more transparent to their customers and let them know about the increase. When I notified my accountant of my displeasure I was told that she had written off my son's return in the past. It would have been nice to know that they were "writing off all the time" you'd spent on his returns in past years.  I have my doubts as to this statement as I received a separate invoice for him. I was then told they were an ethical company - while I do believe they are ethical in the job they perform, I have strong doubts as to the company's business style and billing practices. I will not be using them moving forward and would caution everyone to ask for fees up front. My mistake but after years with no issue I didn't expect that I would need to.
