I am writing to express my frustration regarding a recently canceled appointment. The day before my…read moreappointment at 4;36PM, I received a text message stating my appointment was canceled because I am a patient of Dr. McDonald, not Dr. Lerman, and was instructed to call to reschedule. When I called back, the office was already closed. I have been a patient with this center for over 30yrs., and started my care with Dr. Sam Lerman. Due to all the changes of personnel being fired, leaving or retiring I was subsequently transferred to Dr. McDonald. I saw him 3xs and was not happy with his care. He kept me waiting for over an hour the last time I saw him. That's why on July 30th, I requested that my care be transferred back to Dr. Lerman. This was all confirmed and I received several annoying electronic and phone messages confirming my appt with Dr. Lerman prior to their cancellation on Aug 12. Communication with this office has been consistently difficult. While the website lists business hours from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, getting anyone to answer the phone during those times is nearly impossible, and their after-hours answering service center advised that the office does not open until 8:30 AM. Despite leaving countless phone and text messages I never got a call back. I finally reached someone at 9:30 AM, I was given conflicting excuses: first, that Dr. Lerman was overbooked, and then that my appointment was not scheduled for enough time. Ultimately, Dr. Lerman refused to see me, because he did not want to accept the transfer of care, even though Dr. McDonald works for him!! A total waste of my time. I eventually spoke in person with the new Office Manager, Christina, who apologized and acknowledged the severe handling errors. She admitted that their website information is inaccurate, promised to personally assist me in rescheduling with another doctor, and assured me she would call me back. I never received that follow-up call. Due to this pattern of poor communication and unprofessionalism, I am no longer a patient at this practice.

Thanks to his expertise and care, my kidneys are now stable, my weight is 233 pounds, and my A1C is 5.7. His professionalism, compassion, and dedication gave me a second lease on life, and his staff in Pembroke Pines and Davie have been equally remarkable. I will always be grateful.

It's a shame his staff is so poorly mannered because he is an intelligent and caring practitioner…read more His staff is the ONLY reason I'm changing providers. Also it's unethical to overbook future appointments to where the patient is unable to receive their medication due to the office not having any appointments for the next 3-4 months. Is it ok for diabetic person to go without their insulin because they can't get their endocrinologist to refill their prescription due to overbooking and not being able to speak with the Dr? NO. IT'S NOT SAFE OR APPROPRIATE to make a patient go without their daily medication due to overbooked appointments, despite myself and pharmacist calling this office. The same regard should be taken for all of those that suffer from autoimmune diseases. That is a liability and borderline negligence. Terribly unprofessional and unhelpful staff on top of that matter would make anyone look into reporting this situation to the appropriate governing bodies. ***Edit: I would like to amend my original review with the fact that this office called me within 3 hours of submitting the original post/review. It's unfortunate that a negative review is what ilicits results. I would like to stress that Dr. Villa Franca is an EXCELLENT physician. However he's so good you can't get an appointment unless you don't mind waiting 3-4 months off from when you initially call. Not sure about you all, but I don't like to "sit" on health problems and don't like feeling sick. So waiting that long for an appointment with him is not ok with me. I will commend 1 person in particular from their office that took this matter very seriously and performed very professional conflict resolution via telephone. Thus, why I changed my review from 1 star to 3. All I can say is be an educated consumer and medically advocate for yourself.
