After attending Camp Don Lee last summer, my son was very excited to go back for the summer of…read more2024. As Christmas/birthday gift we registered him for two separate two week sessions. Unfortunately, on March 30, my son was in a horrific accident. He was hit by a car while riding his bike in our hometown of Emerald Isle, North Carolina. He was subsequently airlifted to ECU, where he underwent emergency surgery, was in the hospital for four days, and is now in a cast up to his hip and not weight-bearing on the leg for at least two months. Obviously, due to these unexpected injuries, we must cancel our summer camp plans, as he will be in rehab to gain use of his right leg again. Therefore, I reached out to Camp Don Lee so that I could cancel our camp plans, and open up his spot to a child that may be on the waitlist. When I inquired about receiving a refund for my deposit was told that I needed to seek out and purchase third-party camp insurance prior to trying to cancel. However, had I called on 1 April, they would have 'possibly' been able to help. (We were in the hospital, and summer camp was the LAST thing on my mind.) The lack of compassion and empathy shown was absolutely disgraceful. Camp Don Lee touts itself as a small Christian camp, and even in the mission statement they double down on Christian values. My experience has been that they are only concerned with money, not the actual human experience. I told the woman to keep the deposit as a donation to camp as obviously they needed it more than we did. If you were looking for a place that treats your family with Christian values, empathy, and compassion I would choose to go elsewhere. Camp Kirkwood in Burgaw is a great alternate choice.

Our 14 year old son was excited to return for his third summer. The physical surrounds are awesome, a waterfront cabin, just rustic enough to feel like camp, but still comfortable. The well trained caring and slightly crazy staff members keep campers busy from swimming, boating, sailing, Gaga ball, four square, field games, nature hut, environmental education, sand volleyball, crafts, theme weeks, talent show, visiting the camp store, a small dose of God without pressure, hay rides, dances, camp fires, camp songs, crazy competitions, and more! Today's check in was smooth, actually pleasant. We had received several emails and telephone calls regarding his registration, policies and a reminder of the theme week--aloha campers! It's luau week st Camp Don Lee. I'd recommend this camp to all kids, Methodists or not. The website registration was easy to follow and with Bunk1 we can view pictures of our camper in action and send and receive emails. I absolutely love that no cell phones are allowed for campers. A whole week to unplug and experience this beautiful place!

The camp in the off season occasionally put on…read morelarge regattas and it works so well because they have so much housing available and they bring in top notch people to run the events with plenty of local volunteers. I hear nothing but great from anyone involved in the summer camp and offseason events are wonderful and the Camp Seagull staff and volunteers step it up and make everything great. On my walk towards the dive center I passed a dive lodge so after I filled out all of my paperwork for the weekend dives I inquired about the lodge and they provided me a tour and gave me a great price. It's not 5-star, but it's pretty much perfect for your diving needs. It's right next to the dive shop, dive boat and local places to drink and eat. I'll be staying here next time I come for certain.

We paid for a full day gulfstream trip, but because of the weather we were running slow and only made it a little past channel marker 14. We did not get to the gulfstream. The mate was awesome but the choice to go out was only about money. We had no business being out there for a safety concern and for the sake of we didn't get what we paid for. After coming back in the captain was unprofessional talking about our business finances and if we were using a business card and writing this trip off on the business etc etc . As we are very new to the offshore fishing world we then got an unprofessional text from the captain about the tip we left. The weather only proceeded to get worse for the rest of the week. We already had planned a have day inshore trip but because of our experience during the previous days trip and the weather being worse we asked to cancel. The captain stated "per cancellation policy etc" we chose to just pay the deposit we owed and not go on the trip. We continued to get numerous text messages about us canceling and hurting his business. A friend of ours called the captain about going fishing that day and he said no due to weather. Clearly the message trying to push us to go out was not in our best interest since the captain told someone else (within an hour of asking us to go out) that he would not be going out due to weather. I feel like this trip was all about money. I would not fish with them again!!

He says, "yes we have you down. Be there at 6 a.m." On the day of, we show up at 5:40 a.m. with our cooler packed, Dramamined up and ready to go only to be told they couldn't find the captain. Then at 5:50 a.m. (Captain is still no where to be found) we were greeted by another family who apparently were going on the same charter from 6 a.m. - 2 p.m. Instead of the captain of the boat and the first mate consulting with one another about what to do, they looked at us (on the boat) and the family who had just arrived, and told us we would have to Rock Paper Scissors for the charter and figure out who could come back later in the day. The other family was quite rude and told us they had already taken Dramamine, and we had already done that as well. So being that they weren't making more money from us, weren't traveling as far nor were we staying out as long we were told to have a nice day as they drove off with the other family who arrived after us. Don't use them. They don't know how to run a business, tell people to Rock Paper Scissors for success, completely unorganized and unprofessional. It's 6:18 a.m. and the boat just left...
