I have had commercial policies here for years. For 2-3 years, my payments to the insurer were held in suspense as they had an unknown computer glitch. My agent (Jennifer) treated me with disgust and actually told me to go find another agency as I showed in non-payment. Of course, I put up with it as I have NO TIME for this type of stuff. Finally, I took the time, reached the insurer and solved the issues. Back to the agency, she transferred my account to someone else, I suppose out of mortal embarrassment. This year, a non-renewal due to some outstanding / incomplete work. Ok. They barely shopped my policy. Let me know on Friday afternoon that I needed to write a very expensive policy on Monday, as it was all they could find and I was expiring. We knew this for months, and I implored them to settle far in advance. They didn't. In my view, they barely lifted a finger, and it was mostly to put me in a situation. I found another policy myself on Friday, for MUCH less and bound it immediately. I have had enough and I am exiting. They have worked hard to get rid of me, and have finally done it. read more

Buyer beware, make sure they send you documentation before you purchase because they add on things you don't need and are dishonest.

Switching to encharter started out as a great experience...lower rates, fast service e-mailing info back and forth to register or transfer plates. Didn't recieve a bill one month but sure as heck got a cancellation notice within days after due date had passed...Few months later no bill again...sorry I get alot of bills in the course of a month and am anal about paying them, keeping track of all of them..whether or not I recieved 1 out of 20 ...I didn't know I had to keep track of that.... with this company apparantly you do..Instead of a blll I got a notice that I am being dropped and moved into a more expensive company due to " Bad payment history"...so I guess I'm shopping for a new company read more

I've had both car and home insurance through charter for 14 and 4 years respectively, and they've been a straightforward, helpful, and patient with me every step of the way. A few years back the cost of my plan inexplicably went up by several hundred dollars and they immediately helped me find a new plan when I stopped by to ask why. I highly recommend. read more

I originally had a positive experience with this company. I recently switched home and auto policies and I have been asking them to fax over the proper paperwork to cancel my old policies since February. I've been paying double premiums for 6 months unnecessarily. I have called, emailed, and gone in person and nothing has been done. I would not recommend Encharter. read more

When I moved to Massachusetts from Texas, I needed to transfer my car insurance. Not being familiar yet with the somewhat intricate process of the RMV here, I decided to look for a local agent to guide me through the process face-to-face, instead of dealing with a national insurance company over the phone or Internet. Katie O. at Encharter took great care of me and gave me an excellent quote for both my car and my renter's insurance, coming in significantly lower than Progressive, whom I had used until then. I decided to go with Encharter right there and then, and that has turned out to be an excellent decision--I have since found out that their service doesn't deteriorate after you buy your policy, on the contrary. Every time I had to adjust my policy for some reason, my agent at Encharter was quick to respond, and even when the insurance company itself messed up on some of those changes, Encharter acted as my advocate and made sure it all got sorted out. This probably saved me countless hours on the phone talking to clueless customer service agents/brick walls. Normally, I would expect to have to pay a premium to receive this kind of service, but that's not the case here; the value proposition they offer is great. Shopping for auto insurance implies asking a lot of questions, exchanging emails and phone calls with a customers service representative. Two years ago Kate W. was fantastic. Unfortunately, two years later my experience was terrible when Beth H. was in charge. Despite she found a good deal quickly, she later ignored several emails, did not answer my questions and got back to me when I already had to contact another agency. A very poor and unprofessional service this time. Avoid Beth H. by all means or just take your business to another agency. read more

I would definitely not recommend getting insurance through this shoddy company. I am a contractor, who has lived in my home for 15 years, so I have accumulated some "stuff". I was told they could not insure me, because the google maps image that they looked at showed that I had "some debris" (their words) in the back yard. WTF! The debris they were talking about ended up being the 15-20 old doors and windows I had collected for possible future use, some old stove pipe, and some tile. Since when do insurance agencies tell you how much stuff you can have? I was told by the agent that they are a small local company, but it says right on their letterhead that they are an Insuramatch Company, which is a Plymouth Rock Company. Plymouth Rock is based is Boston, so they might be stretching to call themselves local to Amherst. It is most certainly a lie that they are a small company, as Plymouth Rock is huge. read more

When I started getting insurance, this place was under another name... Since then they've been bought up, changed names, and have dropped a lot of insurance options from their catalog. This is great if you want car insurance through Plymouth Rock, but for those of us experiencing difficulties with them, this place is now useless to me, and the agents don't seem to care about anything other than selling you as much as they possibly can. read more

The customer service here is abysmal. I have been with the company for 20 years, since it was Blair. Cutting, and Smith, and ever since it has been bought by a larger corporation the customer service has deteriorated. I routinely have to speak to 3 or 4 customer service representatives before I get to one who can address my issue. Then am put on repeated hold while they search their databases for information to address my needs. The impression I get from the majority of the reps is that they are young and inexperienced, and unable to do anything than the most basic tasks. I was recently given a quote for an auto policy for my son that was astronomical. When I asked the rep for help in alternatives, I got a verbal shrug, and excuses as to why the policy quote was so high. I have to say that there is one rep there, Beth H., who is phenomenal, and when I discussed my son's policy with her, she got me a quote for less than half of the original one with the same coverage. Not getting the cooperation in the first place almost lost me the opportunity to buy the car we wanted, as this problem had to be carried over a weekend. Unfortunately this stellar representative is not always available. There are many insurance agencies in my area that are smaller and more personal and I will be taking my business there as soon as I can arrange it. read more
