If I could leave six stars I would! This is the first time I've ever done hypnosis and empowered hypnosis is very good at helping you understand what hypnosis is vs. the myths about hypnosis before you start the session. I went to Selena because I have been trying, for several years, to get pregnant. Even with the help of fertility treatments, it still wasn't happening. The doctors called it on "explained infertility." Meaning there was no clear medical reason why it wasn't happening. I bought a 12 pack of sessions and by the 11th session I was pregnant! Does it get better than that! It will change the way you think about life and be a useful tool to help make all your dreams come true. I highly recommend Selena and Empowered Hypnosis. (Even though I bought a 12 pack from Selena I could use the sessions with any therapist. Caterina, who is also Reiki healer, did two of my sessions. She was wonderful and exactly the energy I needed the day before my transfer.) read more

This was hard to rate. Selena is a very pleasant woman, professional and well (and soft) spoken. All qualities, one would want in someone who would guide them through a process so intimate as Hypnosis. I purchased a Living Social voucher in August and went prior to my wedding. I was ignorant to Hypnosis and so when I went into the office I was under a different impression of services to be rendered than actually attained. For those that do not know, Hypnosis is guided meditation. And Selena was good at this. However, I have meditated in the past and found that I was much more energized and felt "healed" in a way, after having done it....I didn't really feel that in this session with Selena. Her office is tiny, yes. BUT it works. The intimacy of the office works, I think. With that said, give it a try and see if it works for you. It may, or may not. If you meditate I would suggest you go to a meditation class and do that instead, it would prove more beneficial to you. read more

I went to Selena D. Valentine Hypnosis Center a little over a month ago because a friend of mine who has been going regularly to see Shauna for the Hypnosis Gastric Band, lost a lot of weight. I am a woman of a "certain age" and I have begun to pack on a few pounds. I have tried diets but my lack of motivation had left me feeling at a loss. I figured why not try hypnosis, I tried everything else. I contacted Selena at the Hypnosis Center to inquire about the Gastric Band Program. She explained the program to me, what to expect, and the process. Selena is very nice. She even gave me a discount over the phone! I am a bit of a skeptic, so despite my phone conversation with Selena, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Fortunately I knew my friend would not send me somewhere crazy. The office was in a nice building, and everyone is so professional, and they are quite warm and just all around pleasant to speak with. I was made to feel comfortable right away. I must admit I was a bit distracted at first, but as we settled into the session, any outside distraction faded away. I have had several sessions now--It is actually working! I am truly amazed with the results. They have truly convinced my mind into believing I actually had Gastric Bypass Surgery. My stomach is very tight now and it feels tiny. I eat a fraction of the food I used to eat. I was able to cut way down on my sugar intake, and I have lost 10lb in the first month. If you are struggling like I was, I highly suggest the Hypnosis Gastric Band Program. I am going to start seeing them about exercise motivation next. Now that I am reducing, I need to tone up. I came to Empowered Hypnosis with a specific goal in mind. I wanted to pass my nursing assistant licensing exam. I worked with both Selena and Caterina. Both were wonderful to work with. It goes without saying that I not only passed my exam but I got specific questions on the day of my exam that I asked be included in my hypnosis session. Hypnosis is more like guided meditation it's not like what you see on t.v. so don't go in expecting pendulums and spiraling backgrounds. That being said, it can help you accomplish your goals and get to whatever is the root cause of why you're not accomplishing your dreams. Hypnosis is about getting to the subconscious mind. Sometimes things get in the way of our success and unless you can make them conscious it's hard to know how to resolve those issues. I remember I bought a Groupon deal for 3 sessions. So I tried one session out with each one of the three hypnotists. The first session, I had great experience with Shauna Cummins. I was there on time and prepared. And I enjoyed so much of her calm voice and the speaking speed as part of her excellent skills. The chair was comfortable and the room had a noise isolator if I am right. I think I fell asleep in a deeper unconscious level. After I came out from the session, I literally felt more energetic and happier. Myself is a social worker. So I came back to office and shared it with my coworkers. It was my first life experience of hypnosis and it was great! The second time was with selnena valentine and the third time was with Caterina Romano. I've noticed that everyone of the hypnosits were different. Not saying who was better, I personally enjoyed the session more with Shauna Cummins. Also for the later ones, I was bad that I was late and not prepared for the sessions so of course the quality would not as good as the first one. I met Selena one afternoon last summer. I had been given a gift of One Hypnosis session for smoking cessation at Empowered Hypnosis. On the day or so before it expired I made the call. With my appointment scheduled and almost no resolve to actually quit smoking, I made my way to their offices. In fact, I bought a pack of American Spirits on my way to my session. I remember it very clearly, I wanted to smoke and didn't have any so I bought some and besides as soon as I was finished with my hypnosis I'd want one before I got home...or so I thought. I arrived a few minutes early and Selena was finishing up with another appointment. She greeted me in the lobby and invited me to her office. The first thing I noticed was the calmness, the tranquility. A chill, comfortable office that smelled divine. And while I was the biggest skeptic in all of NYC at that moment I figured I'd play along. She first explained what we could expect, we talked about my background, motivation and desire. After she felt she had an understanding of me we began. Starting with relaxation she walked (or more accurately, talked) me through the stages into a deep trance. I was so relaxed. When one is in this state, the subconscious is more open to suggestion. So while I don't remember exactly what we said or did I do know that when Selena had me 'wake up' (by smiling) I was a non-smoker. No, really I no longer smoked! And that pack of cigarettes I bought at the Bodega for $14 I threw in the trash can in her office. And then my lighter. It is an understatement to say I was dubious. I still am BUT IT WORKED. I have since seen another hypnotist or two for other matters but none compare to Selena. Really, don't waste your time or money. I've had three sessions with Caterina Romano, and they have been wonderful! Caterina is so good at talking you through the hypnosis, describing helpful visualizations and coming up with thoughtful, productive metaphors. It's great discussing what you need to work on with her, too. She's sensitive and insightful, and in addition to working the things we spoke about into the hypnotherapy itself, she also taught me some excellent techniques for relaxing and focusing, for breaking through resistances and cultivating a state of flow with my work. I've been here twice in the past and each time I found it was very helpful. The first time I didn't know what to expect. Yes the office was tiny but I wasn't bothered by that at all. Once you get in the chair and get in the zone your mind is in a completely different place. I left the first session feeling very positive. The second session I had was very helpful as well. I got a Lifebooker for a 1 hour session and my reason to go was to help with shopping "addiction". I have had Hypnosis several times in my life and not all of them know what they are doing. However, when I had my session here I was hypnotized for sure. What also got stuck with me from the session, which I now use every time I go shopping, whether the item I am getting is a "liability" or an "asset". Meaning, if I already have 10 pairs of shoes and I wanna buy another one, it would be a "liability" for my finance. However, buying groceries, supplies for my daughters school is an "asset". Selena is really wonderful. She greeted me right at my scheduled appointment time and discussed what I felt I needed help with. We even wound up walking out together and taking the train downtown, both headed in the same direction.
