It was great to have a "home base" during our stay. We ate breakfast and most dinners at the house which was helpful to our budget. Be ready to wash your own dishes and make do with some dull knives. The website states access to a creek for wading and fishing but we never figured out how to access it (there were no trespassing signs) and couldn't reach the owner to get that info. The weather was not too hot so the kids weren't dying to get wet. The beds were comfy and the basement bedroom was nice and quiet! There were brochures for area parks/attractions which was helpful. If you are not a huge fan of hotels this is a place to consider!!! We enjoyed our stay here and it is in the center of many places to visit in the area.

The size was perfect for just my husband and me. The cabins are not air conditioned, but window fans are provided, and the evenings and nights were pretty cool. The cabins are close enough to the local attractions and shopping, but remote enough that there we NO sounds of traffic or other people (except the very nice family staying in the big cabin) at all. The only sounds we heard were the babbling of the brook in the meadow and the birds singing and chatting with each other. The view out over the meadow was a real treat as we watched deer while enjoying our morning coffee out on the deck. We will be staying again.

DAN AND I HAVE Been to BLACK HILLS CABINS AND MOTEL 4 times! We are going back again this year!…read moreGeorge is one the greatest people we know. A couple of years ago we rode our bike there and Dan got shingles. He needed to go to hospital, George let use his vehicle to take him to the hospital. And the next day to the eye doctor. There are many people out that would do this for you! George is a great host and now a good friend, if you never been to South Dakota this is the place to stay! Black hills cabins and motel are central located to all of the attractions! If you stay once and you ever go back you will be calling George to book a cabin! I give it a 5 star review

He claimed to have allergies, and when we attempted to explain the applicable ADA laws, he stated that he was aware of them but did not care. His response to our concerns was highly unprofessional and demeaning. Disturbingly, he went so far as to publicly speak negatively about my family and even shared one of their addresses online. Fortunately, we were able to find another hotel last minute that welcomed us without issue. This experience was not only unprofessional but also discriminatory towards veterans with disabilities. Update: He charged my family for the stay even though we didn't stay there because we were denied! Completely unacceptable and no way to run a business DO NOT STAY HERE.

However, Wingate exceeded my expectations in all aspects: -Check-in was fast and we were greeted by friendly staff who actually seemed happy to be there! -The room was clean and well stocked with coffee pods, towels, bathroom products, etc. -Any need we had during our stay was addressed promptly by helpful staff members -Breakfast was enjoyable and plentiful with many options that changed every few days - Coffee stations, ice water stations, toasters, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, and condiments, were accessible in the breakfast area 24/7 making dining in our hotel room easy. Plus, we had a fridge and microwave in the room. -I regularly noticed common areas like the lobby, public restroom, and fitness center being cleaned to maintain the hotel's nice appearance. We came to Gillette looking for housing which took much longer than anticipated, meaning that our stay was extended many times! The amazing staff and their outstanding level of customer service made getting through this time much more manageable. We are so thankful for having this experience during life's challenge. Shout out to hotel manager Angela and front desk attendant Katie for showing us genuine care. Keep up the good work!

It's a cute house with a very nice front porch. There is parking in back but spaces are tight if the inn is full and when all the cars are big SUVS. We got there rather early as our plans that day were disrupted by the torrential rain but the hostess was there and we were able to get settled in our room right away. We had the writing room which has a shared bathroom down the hall with one other room (the least pricy room). It's is very bright with three big windows, lots of natural light. There is a small fridge which is convenient. Bed a bit soft but for one night it wasn't a big problem. The bathroom is a good size with a retro free standing tub and the shower is hot and strong. From the inn to Main Street is an easy 5-10 minute stroll. Plenty of dining options as the town is quite interesting even though it's all geared towards tourists. Hostess will give you good recommendations if needed. Breakfast was a hearty chunk of Christmas casserole - the best I've ever had chock full of tasty ingredients. Would return to this inn next time just so we can have the same breakfast again!
