This Shell convenience store/station sits right on a prime scenic lot on Highway 42 overlooking the…read morebay.  I couldn't believe that they had the same $3.899/gal price for regular 87 octane that matched the cheapest price anywhere in Door County at this time.  I've seen Shell prices at a lot of places over the years in both the US and overseas, and they're ALWAYS one of the highest priced brands, ha.  I had to fill up here just for grins, even though I really didn't need to.  It was an old style pump too, with no card reader, no digital screens, and I was flabbergasted and paralyzed for a moment!  I thought, well, I guess have to go in and give them my credit card for a prepayment.   But nope, Andrea the clerk inside, just says fill it up and come back and tell me how much it was.  Ha, a total old school honor system here, and a nostalgic trip to the past.  I'll go with 4 stars.  Now if they had an attendant come out and check my oil dipstick and clean the windshield and pump the gas, I'd go with 5 stars 4sure! ps - Inside the building, they have a standard, small convenience store with pre-packaged goods, i.e., no hot food.

I needed a digital photo to renew my passport. I haven't gotten one since back when my passport was first issued, and had no idea what had to be done. Fortunately, a Google search directed me to CVS. A CVS clerk directed me to Ryan. And Ryan handled the multi-step process as smoothly as anyone could ask. Ryan probably does this so often that he considers it no big deal. It was. I'd already been to another business which supposedly offered the service; turns out it didn't. So it was a pleasure to work with an employee who knew his business, did it efficiently, and was mighty friendly while doing it. There's plenty of pharmacies around Traverse City. Ryan and employees like him are CVS's competitive edge.

On the few occasions that I do go inside, folks here are courteous and helpful. However, one of my favorite reasons to stop here is because they carry the Ice Box ice cream bars. They are a little expensive but taste awesome. Not many convenience stores carry them but it seems that the EZ Mart chain does. They are a great reason to stop to fill up on gas... even if you don't really need to do so.

I walked inside and waited several minutes while two employees visited about various nonbusiness things and assisted a customer. I elected instead to take my $70 purchase elsewhere.
