Sometimes people forget that this is a school. I had the pleasure of being served by Ezaria. I originally wanted a flat twist but when I learn that she felt most accomplished in flatironing my hair, we agreed to do that instead. So glad we did. I've learned to do this when I go to hair schools so that both the student and I feel successful at the end. Although she's a student I felt like I was in Good hands and that she was trying her best. She really wanted to take good care of me. My hairstyle came out perfectly. Would a professional stylus have done much better. Absolutely but people these are students and they are learning. Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing What style my next visit will result in. If you are willing to flex to your students' needs you will be happier as a customer. After following up with Business Director , I was offered a "do over " if you will. The Manager invited me to come back and get that hair perm appointment that I first had intended to get, promising me it would be completely a better experience. I came back today and was greeted by the student at the reception desk as well as by Mary. the Business Manager. I was promptly taken back to the hair station where I was greeted and handed off to the student Zakiyyah who would be working with me today. Zakiyyah aka Kiyyah worked her magic and did an amazing job with my hair. Attentive to the details and full of personality she has her sights on a promising future as a hair stylist . She will Graduate in June. The school has students in all phases of learning but the advanced students would be the ones working on your hair. The students always do a great job on my blowout and I have pretty long thick hair. I love how they scrub my head. I want to try a facial here. Brow wax was great also-they use hard wax first time I ever had that but they did a great job! Recommend them for sure. Where do I begin! Empire beauty school is an amazing school filled with amazing administrators! Mrs G is always so supportive and helpful! Always gives great advice and is always so patient when teaching how to do anything. I am so grateful to have her as my teacher. There is never a dull moment in class with Mrs G she makes learning fun! Not to mention how talented she is that lady's hands are blessed and I am blessed to have her as an instructor! Ms Grier is also very sweet and patient she always speaks to everyone is always giving little tips and tricks to help one become successful. Ms Grier always has an uplifting spirit! I dont go to this school in particular but due to covid i had a TERRIFIC OPPORTUNITY TO MEET MRS.GIBSON as an zoom teacher she was the only reason i pasted most of the quiz, test, etc in pre salon and her state board reviews phenomenal. She always had her hand stretched out to each and every student so no one was left in the unknown. i never would've thought i could get so close to someone through a screen. She made it all the much better when shed joke around with us and have a great time while still being professional. now im an advanced student with a few months left till I graduate All thanks to Pineville teachers. I have gone to Empire since moving to Charlotte. After Pineville location closed I tried the University empire. The wait was an hour + to see a student . The instructor had limited involvement. I asked for 7 foils and a cut. The highlights were drastically different in brightness. The student was hesitant. She didn't ask about a cut and I was happy to for go more anxiety Generally at Pinville Ms D( now at Paul Mitchell) or Ms B supervise My last trip the floor was busy. Ms A started the student for my Bob undercut. The student was trying to follow technique. It must have been taking too long. Ms A gathered my hair in a nap ponytail and cut it. Did some texturizing and done. At home the dropline was too short too cut more off but worse it was jagged. I have trusted my hair to empire for years but have had a few bad experiences read more

Had an appointment, after 20 minutes I still hadn't been called, no follow up or anything.. While waiting I started observing the students and wonder who I was going to be paired with. They were looking at the clientele with a sense of superiority, did not look approachable or friendly. This is when I decided to cancel my appointment. The older receptionist was friendly and asked if I would like to reschedule. I do understand that is a school and a lot of theses girls are young but you should remind them that at the end of the day it is about customer service and connecting with their clientele. Trust me don't go here Worst experience I had. I went for hair cut . just wanted simple trimming and layers. She was a student and took long long time to cut my hair. Moreover she was so confused and didn't know how to do it. She asked help from here supervisor and supervisor says" you know it and you do it".she showed nothing .what the hell you do it. I recently came to this location for a simple roller set. I was having a horrible day I locked my keys in my car and waited for a locksmith for hours . So by the time I arrived at my appointment I was exhausted and ready to call it quits. When I walked in I was greeted by a very pleasant young lady who went above and beyond to make sure my day went great from that point on .Ms Knotts fed me words of positivity and encouragement. I went in not expecting to have great service. After all, its a school right? I knew it would take a long time and I would be used as a experiment. However, I received color and it turned out awful. My color never took in spots, and I have whole segments of hair that are my original color. It was not saturated with color, which is funny because I paid extra for it since I have thick hair. My stylist said she told the instructor and they told her to not mention anything to me. This terrible job took 4 and 1/2 to receive. My forehead is dyed from all the color that was not wiped out or protected. I will never return. Having to pay to get it fixed and risk damaging my hair. read more

If you want your hair done right I wouldn't go here so obviously they don't teach their students to do every type of hair I had a girl (student) to wash my hair make a long story short I let the instructor know that my hair was not clean and the instructor showed her how to wash my hair still the student was I felt nervous and inexperienced so me being the nice person iam left their hair wet and dirty paid for a wash that I didn't receive because of course my hair was still dirty and went to a different salon and paid for a wash and roller set what I wanted in the beginning. I have been a couple times and have gotten Adria (aka Alexis) every time. I really appreciated the time she took to ensure I had a clean scalp during the shampooing process. Also the instructor is really nice and had given the stylist some tips for my particular scale condition and Adria followed the direction. This place is no good at all. They stole my money. On Wednesday May 13, 2015 I went to visit and inquire about attending Empire. I only wanted to get a nail tech license but was told I had to complete the hair portion of the program in order to get my nail tech license. So I was game of that as long as I could learn nail portion of it. They took my $25 fee signed me up. It wasn't until I got home and realized that the date on the contract said the 14th for one and for two I would not be able to get a nail tech license when they said I would. I called the next day and speak with Kenyatta Beam the supervisor who enrolled me but she was unavailable so I spoke with Kimberly Shepherd who was manager who told me to come in on the 19th to cancel. The contract states that you have seven days to cancel enrollment but it doesn't specify if that is seven business seeing as that Empire is not open on weekends would mean seven business days. Kimberly informed me that Kenyatta was new to the position and she should have recognized that I had a passion for nails. Kimberly then said that if she had enrolled me that should would have known that I didn't really want to do hair but just nails. She went on to say that she doesn't know why the Empire website states that you can get nail tech training through Empire when that's not true. She said they only teach using the nail filer and applying polish only. She then states that she will un-enroll me seeing as it's within the seven days I should receive a refund. I said great, thank you and left. On the 27th I found out that Kimberly didn't un-enroll me as she said would. I also have emails on that day as verification that I cancelled enrollment. I contacted Kimberly about the matter and she said that it was her fault she was busy and didn't get around to it. She said she would contact the head office to get me my refund not to worry and she would call me to let me know. I never receive a call so I called her she kept saying the same thing giving me the run around. Kimberly Shepherd and Kenyatta Beam both left the Matthews location to go over to the Charlotte location where they are still lying to people and taking their money. I called the Charlotte location and spoke with Kenyatta Beam who said she didn't know all this had happened to me and that she would handle it and get me my refund. I still have yet to get my refund and they have not called me back. Hence the review. If you have a passion to be a nail tech Empire is not the place. They don't teach applying acrylic, shaping, nor nail art. This is not a good place a bunch of fake people. It's now August 2015 and still no response as to how they handled this whole situation. I cancelled within in the seven days I should have received my refund also it wasn't until after that I found out this has happened to a lot of people. read more
