We visited Lake Tahoe from San Diego and an Uber driver from Brasíl recommended Empanash. The owner was very kind and friendly. The food was incredible. The flavors were amazing. I could eat here every day. The seasoning was great and everything is made fresh to order, so be patient. I highly recommend this place. We had the beef and breakfast empanadas. What can I say that I haven't said before...Martin and his team make this place a true culinary gem! I half jokingly say we stay in South Lake Tahoe just to load up on their gastro delights...yeah, that good. Friendly, fast service, every empanada is made to order, so be patient...this is not fast food...just great food! Our go-to's are the beef, spicy and regular henhouse (chicken). Each one is STUFFED with yummy goodness, served hot with your choice of sauces...our fav is the house-made chimichurri. Decent amount of seating in and out, fun action sports running on their flatscreens. Now serving beer and wine. We grabbed our dozen (plus 2 free!!) and look forward to enjoying them at home. I'm guessing it might have been cheaper with the monthly DP discount? Anyways, one minus about using the platform is you cannot order 7 different empanadas. So you have to double up on one. (I just double checked the DD site and apparently that has been fixed. And a Half Dozen is actually priced at $50 now, so a dollar cheaper.) I enjoyed all our meat pies. Especially with the chimichurri. Tho i wish they gave us two of each sauce as three small containers was not enough. The hubs fav was the beef. I liked that and the chicken. If you haven't tried Empanash yet, you must. I was in town from Reno and finally had the chance to swing by to try these empanadas. Located in the ski run marina, parking wasn't an issue. Upon entering the restaurant I was greeted by the man behind the counter. He asked if it was my first time in and proceeded to walk me through the menu and the popular items. I ordered one beef''d up and Popeye empanada with side of the chimichurri sauce and the criolla spicy sauce. They cook everything fresh here, so be prepared to wait a few minutes for these pockets of deliciousness. Service was great and the cashier even thanked me for coming in when I left. I took a bite of the beef empanada dipped in the chimichurri sauce as I was driving out of the parking lot and was so tempted to drive back and order more. The empanada crust was light, flaky without being oily and it was stuffed with perfectly seasoned beef. Dipped in the chimichurri sauce, I couldn't stop eating it until it was gone. Yum! I ate the Popeye empanada when I got home and it was equally delicious. This was my first visit to Empanash but it will definitely not be my last. Next time I will take advantage of their 1/2 dozen or dozen special pricing so I can take some of these home to enjoy. read more

I had the Ham and Cheese Empanada and my husband had the chicken and egg one, both of which were so delicious with the most wonderful chimichurri that I have ever had. AMAZING! I'm a big supporter of local businesses, which is why I'm giving this place 2 stars. I really wanted to like it, but unfortunately, we had an absolutely terrible experience. We ordered a little less than a dozen empanadas for a big group through DoorDash. Based on the estimated time, our order was supposed to be ready for pickup in about 40 minutes. Instead, we ended up waiting at the restaurant for over an hour after the order was supposed to be ready! I understand that the restaurant was struggling to keep up with the orders, but what I don't understand is why people who came in and ordered AFTER us were served before us. The worst part was that the staff barely seemed apologetic about the hour-long delay, which was honestly crazy. To make things worse, the menu had a "buy 6, get 1 free" deal. Not only did we not receive the free empanada, but the guy also told us he had added an extra empanada for us. When we got back to the hotel, there was no extra empanada, and we had actually been charged for the 7th one! The entire experience completely disrupted our evening plans because of the nearly 2-hour ordeal. And honestly, the empanadas themselves were average and NOT worth a 2-hour wait. I really wanted to support this local business, but based on our experience, I'd be cautious about ordering from here unless you have 1-2 hours to spare. read more

Time for an update. Wow, after reviewing my previous reviews, I am hard pressed to improve. Still our family's (my wife's) favorite empanada place. The name 'empanada' comes from the verb 'empanar,' meaning 'to wrap or coat in bread'. Quality/Quantity - We almost always end up ordering the EXACT same order almost every time. Beef'D Up - Generous portions! My favorite on this trip. Spicy Hen House - Chicken, not spicy at all this time, not even after putting the sauce on. Cinner - For Dessert - Cut and pasted from their website - "An empanada filled with apples, crumbled graham crackers, cinnamon and brown sugar. Drizzled with chocolate, caramel and powdered sugar." Actually, their sauces take it to the next level; make sure you try both the chimichurri and criolla sauces. Atmosphere - What a convenient location. When leaving Heavenly off of Ski Run, just drive straight to the marina and pick up a few empanadas!! Very small indoor and heated outdoor space, but we always take our to-go. Actually, they just expanded (3 summers ago) to the unit next door. Doubled the seating, thank you. But we still take ours to-go, lol. Open 7 days a week from 10am to 8pm. Free parking today, at times it can cost... And in the past, I believe it was like $6 per hour...? Service - Excellent. So friendly and welcoming. Price - $8.50 each + tax. Who knew that South Lake Tahoe would have such an awesome empanada stop that was the perfect snack during a long day of driving? Empanadas are ordered a la carte and they had a variety of veggie friendly options. I went with the Namaste (eggplant, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and sun dried tomatoes) as the only vegan option and it was so, so worth it. The crispy empanada was fried to perfection and the house chimichurri sauce gave it an extra kick of flavor. Definitely glad that they offered a veggie option so I could experience these Argentinian flavors. Even though there were a few orders ahead, we did end up waiting 15-20 minutes for our individual empanadas so expect a bit of a delay (and be glad if it comes out sooner). read more

Such a cute little cafe. When you walk in it feels very homey. It's small but there's a few tables in there. To order you just go to the counter and the menu is provided there. Find a table and they will bring you the food. They offer soups and salads, some appetizers, and Sandwiches. But they specialize in Empanadas. You can choose your fillings of meat or veggies. One empanada was good enough for me for some you might want two (for a meal). I love the sauces they serve as well, my personal favorite was the Chimichurri (which consisted of Fresh Chopped Parsley, Olive Oil, White Vinegar, Lemon Juice, Garlic, and Lots of Spices). I loved it! Last but not least they are not stingy with the fillings of the Empanadas. I had the ground beef, it was so juicy and hot (temp wise). Oh, the Empanadas are so cute, they put the Eid own little stamp on it. And each one is labeled with the type of protein you ordered (see photos). In this cafe, you can play board games while you wait for your food. They even have books and toys and all kinds of things to entertain yourself with. Scratch-made is the way to go, and this place makes fantastic empanadas. We tried the beef, corn, and dessert cinnamon apple. The beef had a rich, bold flavor and was filled generously with ground beef, making it a satisfying portion on its own. We didn't need any sauce for this one. The corn empanada paired perfectly with the chimichurri sauce, creating a great balance of flavor. My family and I visited on a Friday evening, the service was very friendly and helpful. We ended up getting six empanadas, got 1 free. I do admit the empanadas are a bit pricey, but the portion sizes are generous. We got the beef, spicy chicken, namaste. Popeye and corn fed. Everything was flavorful and delicious! The spicy chicken was too spicy for my husband, but I devoured it. The menu also offers soups and sandwiches if you want other options, but it would be a crime not to try an empanada! I enjoy the corn cheese and breakfast empanadas. Chimichurri is good too. However, service is slowww. First time I came, I said I wanted "a" breakfast one and he heard 8. Luckily, he verified but it wasn't that loud and it just seemed like there was a bit of a language barrier leading to many misunderstandings. At another visit I ordered the dulce de leche crepes, which they said would be about 15 min wait. The empanadas I ordered were 15 min.. the crepe was an hour! I had to check on it multiple times. They gave some pre-packaged cookie as an apology for the wait, but I was hella annoyed at that point and the cookie was a nice gesture but not enough. It's frustrating because I enjoy the food, but the wait times make me question coming back. Empanadas are made fresh so took around 10 minutes, but very worth the wait! Tons of flavor in the ground beef and tomato bisque and the sauces added wonderful flavor. Friendly staff and clean inside. The prices are very reasonable, and the servings are big! We ordered the Corn veggie Empanada which had corn, mozzarella, sauteed onions, and bell pepper and the Hammer Empanada which had mozzarella, ham, sauteed onions, and bell peppers. Both Empanadas had incredible balanced, flavors.
