Such a cute little cafe. When you walk in it feels very homey. It's small but there's a few tables in there. To order you just go to the counter and the menu is provided there. Find a table and they will bring you the food. They offer soups and salads, some appetizers, and Sandwiches. But they specialize in Empanadas. You can choose your fillings of meat or veggies. One empanada was good enough for me for some you might want two (for a meal). I love the sauces they serve as well, my personal favorite was the Chimichurri (which consisted of Fresh Chopped Parsley, Olive Oil, White Vinegar, Lemon Juice, Garlic, and Lots of Spices). I loved it! Last but not least they are not stingy with the fillings of the Empanadas. I had the ground beef, it was so juicy and hot (temp wise). Oh, the Empanadas are so cute, they put the Eid own little stamp on it. And each one is labeled with the type of protein you ordered (see photos). The name 'empanada' comes from the verb 'empanar,' meaning 'to wrap or coat in bread'. Quality/Quantity - We almost always end up ordering the EXACT same order almost every time. Beef'D Up - Generous portions! My favorite on this trip. Spicy Hen House - Chicken, not spicy at all this time, not even after putting the sauce on. Cinner - For Dessert - Cut and pasted from their website - "An empanada filled with apples, crumbled graham crackers, cinnamon and brown sugar. Drizzled with chocolate, caramel and powdered sugar." Actually, their sauces take it to the next level; make sure you try both the chimichurri and criolla sauces. Atmosphere - What a convenient location. When leaving Heavenly off of Ski Run, just drive straight to the marina and pick up a few empanadas!! Very small indoor and heated outdoor space, but we always take our to-go. Who knew that South Lake Tahoe would have such an awesome empanada stop that was the perfect snack during a long day of driving? Empanadas are ordered a la carte and they had a variety of veggie friendly options. I went with the Namaste (eggplant, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, and sun dried tomatoes) as the only vegan option and it was so, so worth it. The crispy empanada was fried to perfection and the house chimichurri sauce gave it an extra kick of flavor. Definitely glad that they offered a veggie option so I could experience these Argentinian flavors. Even though there were a few orders ahead, we did end up waiting 15-20 minutes for our individual empanadas so expect a bit of a delay (and be glad if it comes out sooner). read more

It's a bit of a small operation so you might have trouble getting a seat if you have a big group or if you're trying to visit during busy hours. Previous reviews did not disappoint! Came here for lunch on a Saturday and ordered the Beefed Up and the chicken empanadas, along with tomato bisque and fries. Empanadas are made fresh so took around 10 minutes, but very worth the wait! Tons of flavor in the ground beef and tomato bisque and the sauces added wonderful flavor. The plate came with no sauce or anything until the older man came out and asked if we wanted sauce with it. Older man was apologetic when it wasn't even his fault he offered to make the correct order but at that point we just wanted to leave as soon as possible we didn't finish our food and rushed our babies out. The attitude and poor customer just takes away from the food itself and the experience. He's clearly in the wrong industry definitely not for food! I don't believe I've received such poor consideration anywhere like this even at a fast food place, it's basic human decency. Empanadas were just okay nothing special the churros were the only thing good. Please you're better off at an Olive Garden or something at least you'll be treated with simple kindness. When we got to the place, the owner was really nice and the service was great. We ordered to-go, churros, 1 beef'd up, 1 Henhouse, 2 hammer and 3 cinner. The owner actually said you get one Empanada for free after ordering 6 empanadas so we got an additional hammer empanada. He gave us chimichurri and an additional sauce for the hammer empanada. They were delicious and 100% worth it. The place has a lot of games for little kids, books, and it looks like they also host workshops every Tuesday for kids. At the time of writing, the first half hour is free and then every hour after that is $4 (we arrived at 7pm). We came one hour before closing on a Wednesday and there weren't any other customers. So we were greeted promptly by a very friendly gentleman and our orders were ready in 15 minutes. Because of this, we didn't have to pay for parking! The food was delicious: with a nice golden crust and the amount of filling was plenty. I believe it was $8.50 per empanada. I would agree that one empanada is a snack while 2 would make a satisfying meal. Our favorite was the mozzarella and corn empanada. We only got savory empanadas, we have yet to try any sweet ones. Located in Ski Run Marina Shopping Center, with parking first 30 minutes free and $4 per half hour thereafter before 6pm. Hole in the wall restaurant right next to Lake Tahoe, but no view of the outside, let alone the Lake. Butcher block type tables with hard folding chairs, or high chairs next to bar tables on windows overlooking an inside passage way. Crowded and noisy, with uncomfortable chairs and sticky tables. People standing in line to place their orders in the center of the dining room right next to seated patrons. Two stars for ambiance Ordered ay 6:08pm Friday, adding a 15% tip. The credit card reader adds the 15% tip to the food and tax total together, not to the food alone. Nickle and diming you again, with the restaurant overcharging on the tip, and keeping the proceeds. Waited 40 minutes until our food was ready at 7:08pm. Took the party of six ahead of us 20 minutes to get their meals, and no one ahead of them. And another party of one, after them but before us, waited 30 minutes to get her meal. One star for service Popeye has spinach on the inside. Wife and I both love spinach but not on a baked rolled dough. Would not order again. Not a good value considering the same $7.50 price as beef. Two stars for spinach. Eggplant had very sweet sun dried tomatoes dominating the flavors of the dish. OK, but again I don't think the eggplant goes well with baked rolled dough. Three stars for eggplant. I thought the chimichurri was the best of the added sauces, as I like garlic. Not fond of the golf sauce, a mixture of mustard and ketchup. Hated the criolla sauce as it had way too much vinegar. Both of us were suffering from colds, and with reduced appetite ate only two empanadas apiece. Adult serving size 2+ for lunch and 3+ for dinner. At $7.50 apiece, that's $25 for 3 for dinner per adult after tax. Not exactly a good value for the 3 ounce portion of meat and filler in each empanada.. I have phoned up this place before in the mid afternoon to place a phone order to avoid the long waits. Nobody ever answered. One star for service. Saving grace of this place is the outstanding baked rolled dough, fresh out of the oven. Five stars for the dough. Would I come back? Yes, but only at a non busy time like 4pm on a weekday. OMG! Coffee is rich and bold, without being acidic. The churros are the absolute best we've ever tasted in the US. They are lightly creme filled. Then drizzled with a dark chocolate AND a caramel syrup, and dusted with powdered sugar. They are much more flavorful than simply deep-fried flour dough. Think they have a hint of cinnamon too.
