I'd recommend it and have been back twice, they were very flexible fitting me in on a busy Saturday when I was going for an interview. My wife like my haircut - she said I looked cool, like a cross between Blake Fielder-Civil and a moor hen. The staff are really friendly GO! Next time I go I am going to ask them to give me a price to open on a Sunday and help me shave a donkey on a number 1, so I can try and make some money renting the donkey out for Hare Krishna picnics during the summer.

Well, it was only a matter of time before I would begin the healing process. And as you may be aware from my former Mufti review, I badgered a friend of mine into visiting them. I booked myself an appointment for Saturday with very high expectations, and they were met gallantly. Mufti is cool, there's no denying it. It's in the Northern Quarter for starters, it's run by guys, the music is unbelievably mellow and lovely and it's simple, clean and relaxing. They had me at the film magazines by the sofa. You might not be able to pick a hairdo from them but you can read through which films should have been TV shows. Agreed, journalists! Empire Records should SO have been a series, as should Watchmen. Ahem, where was I. Not that I'm leaving Salvation (http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/salvation-hair-ltd-salford#hrid:iRY12h4CSS4gugZ1e-S2Pg), it just feels a little weird to walk in there without Alex, but I was more than intrigued to see what Mufti could do with my stupid hair type. Over the years I've tried and failed to make it more manageable, the only thing that really worked for me was a pixie cut. Now I've ill-advisedly grown it long again and its natural wave and supposed 'thinness but lots of it' have got the better of me. Hair, meet Karl, a genius, a lovely guy who washed my hair himself without getting some floor sweeper to do it and asked me questions about my hair routine throughout. I think he could tell from the clobber that I'm something of a vintage junkie, and my resulting style reflected that. A snip, a tweak, some conversations about Alex (he knew him very vaguely), advice on hair products and a confirmation that my hair is indeed thick (take THAT, Headmasters) and that short layers are fooling me into thinking my hair's manageable later, I looked in the mirror and was greeted with a silky head of waves worthy of a 40s movie star. I'm a convert.

The hairdressers at this salon are a very mixed bag. I've…read morenow had 3 pretty awful and expensive haircuts on my curly hair and had to go to another hairdresser to get them sorted. I've also had issues with their online booking service and deposits As well as them losing my vouchers on their system. At £65 a haircut I expect much better and I won't be returning. Don't believe the hype, my local hairdresser is far superior in techniques on curly hair and much cheaper!

I went for the first time here after seeing that they had won some awards and also checking out…read moretheir instagram, which had really nice hair colour works, and I must say I was very impressed. The stylist I had was Lauren and she took the time to do a proper consultation and give recommendations on style and colour. She also did a fantastic job with my highlights and colour, and got rid off all the black roots and brassy yellow on the lengths of my hair. I liked the way she packed the highlights tight and to the very root, so my pink colour came out beautifully. The staff are all very friendly, and the salon is very clean. MT is probably the best salon I have ever been too, as many salons I have been to before just never get my colour right like here. They are very popular though, so it's best book a few weeks in advance.

Until my discovery of the brilliant Mufti this was the only place in Manchester would I would consistently get my hair cut. This was for two reasons: 1. Because, at £5 no matter the length of your hair, it was incredibly cheap. 2. Because the hairdressers who work there are so resoundingly, unrepentantly cheerful. They will talk to you about anything and not in the way that some hairdressers will, talking at you about the weather or what kind of mobile phone their boyfriend is getting. They will talk to you about what you're doing and be genuinely interested. They will tell you about interesting things that have happened to them. They will be interesting and interested and even though I don't usually enjoy making small talk with hairdressers I will find myself enjoying talking to them. The haircuts are nothing fancy; just a simple trim; a short back and sides; a buzzcut, if you're that way inclined, but you're happy with it in the end because they're happy and that makes you happy. And you'll walk up the stairs in a little happy daze, maybe doing a little happy jig, until you realise there's hair in your collar and now you'll be itching all day.

I used to care a little too much about my hair, but now I just get it shaved because its faster and cheaper and it doesn't really matter what ones hair looks like if you are a lad. Until this Christmas though, I didn't have my own shaving thingymajig, so I used to pay for it. Some places, and this is ridiculous, even charge more for a shaved head than a normal hair cut! The horrible man at St James' barbers, claimed that he would have to cut my hair normally, and then shave it, so it would be two separate jobs! Then he charged me something like £12. Silly twit. Here its £5. That'll just do wont it. Job done. £5. I'm not even bothered if its cheaper elsewhere, because I'm completely happy to pay a fiver. In fact, I want to pay a fiver. So there.

As promised, une update de la colourist dans Fretwell Bennet, oui? Oui…read more Well, boys and girls. This little piggy didn't go blonde, but she did go a helllllllluva lot darker, at the capable hands of Adam. From the moment I stepped foot back into FB, I was even more well-taken-care-of than the first time. While I waited for Adam to finish up someone else, I read an actual current copy of Glamour, and was given a free fringe trim and tidy-up. And then Adam did my hair. Adam is one of the most fun hairdressers I have ever encountered. Funny, sharp and with a definite wild streak. He tried to get me to go for some kind of crazy colour flash, but finally acccepted that I wanted to go for the deepest dark brown instead. He helped me choose the best possible shade, taking into account my skin and eye colours (as usual) and also my natural *lip* colour! That's some colour consultation, non? The resultant colour is possibly the best I have ever had, and certainly buries dead my relationship with Razors Edge. Though it's just one colour with no extra tones put in, Adam worked the colour and application to accentuate the natural tones in my hair, and it's a flawless job. A full head tint costs £42 with Adam, and it'll be the best £42 your hair has ever had spent on it.

I came in for all over color and highlight (requiring bleach). Midway through, my colorist had another appointment so I got an intern. She finished my hair and all seemed okay. However, when I went home (I have dark hair) I noticed a huge patch of yellow/blonde in my black hair that they didn't cover up. Also, as my boyfriend nicely pointed out, they color my sideburns a little too much and now part of my cheek peach fuzz is black. I went in to have the bleached corrected and the colorist corrected it no problem. My second time I just did an all over color and it was a fine experience! Nothing bad this time! One thing I miss about Aveda back home is there Aveda tea and they give you a free hand massage while your hair is getting dyed. They say they give free hang massages online but I've never been offered one. I'll continue to go cause its close and the girl who does my hair is pleasant.
