Bologna is the epicurean capital of Italy. So when I've had all the required dishes, tagliatelle…read moreala bolognese, Tortellini in broth and Lasagne, it was time to hunt down the most delicious Gelato in town. All my sources pointed me to Cremeria La Vecchia Stalla, or in english, The Old Stall. I always start with Pistacchio. This is the standard by which I judge all gelato. I had the Pistacchio di Bronte and underneath the Cioccolata Extra Fondente. The flavor jumps out and it has little bits of granular pistacchio in it creamy and delicious in its own right, one of the best I have had in all of Italy. But the dark chocolate that came later was intense. Rich and a perfect compliment to the pistachio. A great combination. Staff were excellent and very friendly. If in Bologna this is a must for Gelato, you will not be dissapointed

What sounded interesting at best, but I wasn't sure if I would actually like it, I still committed to ordering this unique combo. Verdict???? Fantastic!!!! Milk Cream or Vanilla are the only options for this order and the lovely lady assisting us suggested Milk Cream as it allowed the flavor to pop with the basalmic. It didn't disappoint one bit. Also, it's 1 small scoop. Just enough to be satisfying. So glad I got what I came for even though after trying some samples, I could have easily been happy with several other flavors. The Gelato here was some of the creamiest and best I've had.

Some of the other places I went to don't have the same strong pistachio flavor - theirs is more watered down. But the pistachio here is wonderful! The marscapone is also delicious but very creamy, so you may not be able to eat a lot of it. I also enjoyed the ice-cream bars that they had here. They are more frozen so it won't melt as fast as the gelatos. I tried the Nutella and marscapone bar (bomb) and the italia bar which is hazelnut and pistachio.
