    Meyer's Sports and Music

. It seems to me that most people aren't venturing far from home for their entertainment…read morethese days. As a result, local watering holes are seeing bigger numbers of bud light pounders like me. Meyer's Sports and Music, my party stop this weekend, is no exception. Meyer's, behind Skyline Chili on Colerain Avenue at Ronald Reagan, might be called your "typical hole in the wall" by some folks. But others know a little secret that makes this "little hole" a class act---most of the time. "The owner made a hit record in the seventies. That guy will entertain all night long," said Allen Howard, a patron of the bar. That owner is Doug Meyer, hence the name "Meyer's." "Dougy," as I affectionately call him, is a one man show who likes to interject his Italian humor in between numbers. Manned with a keyboard, a drum machine, and a complete catalog of computerized Karaoke tunes, there isn't a song he can't perform. But Doug is never the only entertainer in the room. Because of the Karaoke factor, there is always someone in the room that wants to boast their pipes, good or bad. The Frank Sinatras, Elvis', Madonnas and Tim McGraws are all there. But don't worry karaoke haters, there is plenty of entertainment for you. "I have never seen such a diverse group of people in one room, doing so many different crazy things," said Jess Black, another Meyer's "bottoms-upper." Jess is right. Meyer's has it's typical regulars but there are a few that stand out when the weekend rolls around. You will first notice them when Dougy throws on a dance tune and a 70-plus year-old-man jumps on the floor a starts to boogie. He's followed by his 20-something bimbo (whom we are not quit sure is a paid escort or not) that acts as if his advances are normal. Shaniqua, with the enormous breasts (I mean ENORMOUS) joins in ---and before you know it, it's on! People are dancing on tables and grinding down! On this Friday night, shots of Hypnotic are tilting back all around. Someone eventually decides that there should be a reason to have all of the gals in the room hang their bras from the ceiling. A reason is found and the owner's girlfriend is the first to de-strap. I refuse to expose my puppies, not only because I need breast implants, but also because I am wearing a $30. push-up bra that I happen to like. But I do manage to convince old Charlie to donate his boxers for five dollars (a big mistake). Charlie is now a free man and everyone gets a piece of the action if you know what I mean. I do decide to get up on the dance floor and do my best Janet Jackson dance moves---I was a Cincinnati Bearkitten (dance team), so I figure I am allowed. I then find I've made enough tips from my performance for another round of Hypnotic. YEA! "Nooooobodddddyyyyy can dance like Robin," says Dougy with a grin as he falls off of his stool. The craziness continues all night until I finally realize that maybe it's time to go home. The last thing I remember is eating potato soup right out of a can, the remnants of which are on my satin covers (I ate it in bed). Meyer's isn't always as crazy as I described, just when I am there. Who knew? I guess it's worth mentioning that I have no idea what the "Sports" in "Meyer's Sports and Music" really stands for. I know that Dougy sponsors a softball team, but I don't recall them ever winning a game. I have never seen sports on the two big screens, but I am not there to watch TV. Regardless, if you are interested in kicking back in a fun little hole-in-the-wall, with entertainment, Meyer's is the place. Just remember to bring an extra bra (or boxers).
