We had a fabulous 3 night stay while in town visiting family. House was well appointed, inviting main level common areas, great layout with all suites upstairs. We were able to come and go in this centrally located neighborhood area close to stores & restaurants; easy access to freeway. The house is peaceful, beautifully decorated, and quiet. Although there were other guests, we only came across one other person in passing on the stairs. Plenty of parking in the driveway. Only small thing that could be improved was the outdoor deck furniture cushions of our suite could have used a good cleaning but I suppose it's a little more difficult to keep fabric clean outside. We had the tasty made-to-order breakfast two of the three mornings (saw the resident squirrel scrambling all over in the trees), innkeeper Ann was talkative and extremely accommodating. We also met Maria our last morning, great cook. We have already decided to stay here on our next trip to the Bay Area.

The Inn is charming and full of immenities (including Tums). Our rooms were very tastefully furnished and the beds great. The common areas were all inviting. Especially nice were the individually prepared hot breakfasts. But what really made our stay remarkable was the Innkeeper Josie, who truly went out of her to make our stay enjoyable as well as comfortable. We had an early morning flight out of SFO and she got up early to prepare our breakfast at 6:30 so we could depart by 7. This was way, way above the expected. Kudos to her. I opted for the Courtyard many for Bonvoy purposes, but I wasn't sure how the walk to my conference would be. It was at the Fox Theater and basically about one mile away, but when in California, you never know how sketchy a walk can be. As it turns out, zero percent sketchy. As for the hotel itself, it had free parking, which was nice because I had a rental car and a friend that stopped by to visit. However, I ended up getting a note that I parked somewhere I wasn't supposed to, and was completely confused about that because I parked where everyone else did and there was no signage saying my spot was forbidden. Oh well. The lobby had a "restaurant" with a few items and coffee, as well as a small area with drinks and snacks. Once in the room, it wasn't overly impressive, but did the job. The biggest drawback for me were the tiny pillows (I still don't know anyone who prefers a small pillow over a long one. But when I asked for a couple extras, they were normal sized, so I was able to create a makeshift body pillow out of those. The shower had good pressure and got super hot, so no notes there. There was a small couch, which was perfect because I wanted to watch an NBA playoff game while I was in here and am glad I didn't have to do so from the bed. The area is on a busy street, and the parking was a little confusing at first, but once we figured it out, everything was easy. The room was clean, comfortable, and had a mini fridge and microwave, which were exactly what we needed. I also appreciated that the bathroom was stocked with Dove toiletries. The only part that left a bad impression was check in. The employee helping us assumed the two people behind us were part of our reservation and made a comment about there only being room for two. Since we had reserved a room with a sofa bed, the comment felt unnecessary and made for an awkward first impression. Everything else was great. The continental breakfast was clean and well stocked with hot and cold options, and the employee working the breakfast area did an excellent job keeping everything organized. The coffee wasn't my favorite, and I wish the TVs were smart TVs instead of cable only, but those were minor things. Check out was quick, and the front desk employee that morning was very friendly. The price was a little steep at $250/night for an older hotel (I guess this is a bougie area with Stanford close by), but overall it did the job. I didn't use the pool but it looked well-maintained and away from the street. Free continental breakfast was included (yogurts, scrambled and hard-boiled eggs, sausage, pastries, cereal, fruit and a waffle maker) which was nice! My room key card was glitchy and I had to go back down to the lobby twice during my stay to get it re-programmed when it wouldn't work. The room itself was good! The bed was more firm than I'd like, but it did include a minifridge, microwave, and good, strong hot water. My room was above the lobby and faced the street, which got to be pretty loud in the morning. The drapes also didn't completely block out the light... I like to sleep in pitch black darkness so I wished they were better, true blackout coverings. The staff members I talked to were super nice, accommodating and helpful. It was harder than other hotels to get a final receipt/guest folio after checkout and I had to call again when a manager was in the office, but I finally got it. Overall a decent stay!

I've stayed at several Redwood City/vicinity hotels in the past few months. Overall, I've been…read moredisappointed in the high prices and shabby--in some cases, just plain dirty--rooms. Last week I stayed at this Comfort Inn, and I was delighted. Nelson, the fellow behind the counter when I checked in, was quite friendly and helpful. He helped me with some driving directions and made me feel very welcome. (Redwood City directions can be challenging sometimes, and have defeated my GPS more than once.) The room was immaculate and welcoming. The sheets were crisp and there were four pillows, two firm and two soft. I appreciate this attention to detail. There were plenty of electrical outlets, including two next to my side of the bed. This next detail is so important to me: the heating/cooling system was quiet. Quiet as a whisper. Quiet enough so that I slept like a rock in a nice, cool room. Great shower, with an unusual shower-turner-onner, for which they provide ample instructions (and which Nelson explained to me before I got to my room). Closet with lots of hangers and an ironing board. You may think this trivial, but I have stayed in other area hotels for nearly the same price that do not sport these convenient features. There's a hot breakfast in the morning with lovely cheese omelets and sausage and bacon in addition to the standard fare. Although breakfast service is supposed to stop at 9:00 a.m., the manager escorted me in shortly after that since I'd lost track of time. Parking is plentiful, and in a covered area next to the building. There is an elevator. Free wi-fi, which seemed fine. I barely used it. One quibble, and to me, it's minor. The channel guide for the television didn't match the channels on the television. I had no problem searching for and finding the channels I wanted. The hotel is right on El Camino Real. Some have called the area sketchy. I think that's a bit strong. There are many areas in RWC with price-comparable lodging that I would consider to be far more sketchy. Much of that is attributable to the overzealous development that has been occurring all over Silicon Valley over the past couple of decades. Plus, hey--Harry's Hofbrau is practically across the street. Big plus there. Disclosure: I am a Choice Hotels Privileges member. I've never come close to accumulating enough points to do anything with them, but I became a member because I've had consistently happy experiences with other Choice Hotels throughout the western U.S. (Comfort Inn, as you may be aware, is part of that chain.) I didn't even recall that I had signed up for the thing until Nelson found it when I checked in. This is a nice, clean, welcoming hotel staffed by competent, friendly folks. Give 'em a try. The handicapped parking spot is pretty far away from the room. It could be situated much closer. The room is large with a large shower. They have a microwave, small fridge and coffee pot. The pillows were nice and the bed is comfy. When we checked in the girl sent me in the wrong direction for the room. I had to go back to get correct directions. The room numbers were very hard to see from afar. There was no breakfast and pool was not available because of Covid-19. We ordered pizza and salad from Pronto Pizzaria through Grubhub. Just make sure you ask for utensils and napkins. It was very good pizza and fresh salad. This was good for one night stay.

No one at the desk, you had to use a phone in between two entrance doors to get ahold of someone. Once we checked in, everything was good. Our room was very clean. I think we stayed in a room that was already renovated. However the bed is rock hard. Never laid on a bed that hard in my life! Pillows are somewhat small and really flat. We had to double pillows just to get the size of 1 regular pillow. Forget about continental breakfast, it was coffee and packets of oatmeal. The worst was the sounds. First off they were in the middle of construction so we had to use the side door at the end of the hotel. They cut off the use of the main entrance and the elevator. So we had to bring our luggage's down the stairs. Don't even think about sleeping in. Construction all day until about 4-5pm. And the curtains are black out but the sun shines all through the sides. Also the person upstairs was so loud. Sounded like they were just stomping back and forth around their room at all times, even in the middle of the night. However, every employee we encountered was super nice. The housekeeper didn't speak English but helped anyway that she could. We loved the mini kitchen. But this was a business trip so sleep was needed. Sadly, we had the worst sleep of our lives here.

Disappointing Stay - Several Issues That Need Attention…read more Unfortunately, our overall stay at Extended Stay America in San Carlos was less than desirable. There were several issues throughout our stay that significantly impacted our experience. One of the biggest concerns was the noise. Dogs were barking on multiple nights, making it difficult to sleep. We notified the staff and also specifically requested to speak with management about the situation. Unfortunately, no manager ever followed up with us. The lack of urgency from the staff was disappointing, especially after we brought the issue to their attention. The cleanliness of the room also left much to be desired. The floors were sticky and appeared as though they had not been properly mopped, which was not the level of cleanliness we expected. We were also not informed at the time of booking that the property was being used as a shelter for homeless veterans. While we have absolutely no issue with supporting veterans or individuals in need, this is important information that guests should be made aware of before booking so they can make an informed decision about their accommodations. Additionally, we were not informed that the property was undergoing construction. Construction was another factor that affected the overall experience and should have been disclosed when making the reservation. Finally, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, making it even more difficult to get a good night's sleep, particularly given the noise issues. Overall, the lack of communication, cleanliness concerns, noise, uncomfortable beds, construction, and lack of management follow-up made this a disappointing stay. We expected better communication and customer service and hope management takes these concerns seriously.
