Queen Nails is our go-to nail salon. The staff is welcoming, professional and skilled. Prices are very reasonable for the area. Thei inside is modern but comfortable with leather chairs and a warm color palate. In the past I got mostly spa pedicures which start around $25 (LOVE their massage chairs). However, the other day i asked my mom if she was wearing artificial nails because they were SO LONG. She said no, that they were "dipped". I was really skeptical until we went & she had the polish removed. Sure enough, her natural nails were long! She said it had taken about 3 dips (every 2-3 weeks she had her nails dipped over the course of 9 weeks- roughly). I'm kicking myself for not taking a picture! They were actually too long she had them cut down. We both use our hands a lot - farm work, artistic endeavors- so I'd given up on keeping my nails "pretty". However, seeing my mom's nails (very STRONG too- no breakage), i HAD to dip! My nails were very short and in terrible shape. Less than 30 minutes later (did I mention dipping is FAST?!) the pale pink dip color I chose made my hands look elegant! Is dipping cheap? No. But you know the old adage: You get what you pay for! However, with a dream vacation coming up and my determination to start taking better care of myself, I went to Glow's Facebook page and through messenger, listed my goals, confessed my ignorance and asked for help. Angie, the owner, was super prompt to reply and booked my first appointment. On appointment day, it wasn't easy to walk through the door (my nerves had returned) but Angie made me feel comfortable from the moment I stepped in. We visited about the various treatments, she explained what each involved and helped me make the choices to reach my goals. Another fear I had was a younger person not understanding an older person still wanting to be sexy for her husband (mine's pretty awesome!), for wanting smoother legs and a prettier complexion. After confessing that fear to Angie, she said one of the main reasons she does what she does is that she likes making women feel better and that no woman is too old for that: she understood! As someone who is both overweight and trans, it is so important to have be non-judgemental and she is great. And i always get the services I request. My only complaint is that the company itself imposes unrealistic time constraints on the Sugaristas. Especially for first time sugaring or people who are overweight, there should be exceptions to the tight time frames they have. My first appointment was with a different Sugarista who was also fantastic, but she was newer and she had to rush through the end of my service to meet the deadlines imposed by management. It still worked out pretty well, but I could tell that she was stressed and the parts she did at the end weren't as thorough because of it. Again, THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE WITH THE SUGARISTAS. They are great. But these time constraints just aren't always realistic. Overall, great service, great people, but the structure of appointments and time frames needs work.
