Ben Silvernail subcontracted to roof our house - the roof was leaking around the chimney. They reroofed the house and put new lead flashing around the chimney. The chimney leaked more after they re did the flashing than it had before. The owner said they would come back to fix it; they came for five minutes, caulked around the lead, which did nothing to fix the leak.
We had to hire a mason to come and take the lead out they had put in and re do it. The masons said it was not done properly and the subcontractors had put nails in the cement they used in the chimney, which made it more difficult for them to grind out to re do it. The masons fixed the leak after months of leaking. The roofing job cost approximately $16,100, then we had to pay an additional $!,300 to the masons to get the chimney redone, again.
Silvernail said he would come back to fix it, but he never did, and that cost us additional money to repair the improper installation of lead around the chimney. To top that off, unauthorized photos of our house are posted on his website as jobs well done. We lived up to our side of the contract that originated with him (he was paid in full), but he, unfortunately, did not.
To leave customers with a leaking roof does not demonstrate good faith or acceptable business practices. read more
