But, following my rule that you can usually tell how good a salon will be by how good the staff's hair looks, I felt quite relieved when I was greeted at the reception desk by a girl with the coolest, sharpest bob in a delicious, dip-dyed reds. I knew I'd be in safe hands. Plus my Mum is a regular and they cut her hair beautifully. I was only having my bob subtly trimmed, but I was still treated like royalty. And I liked the atmosphere - it was buzzy, fun and nicely lit (so much more flattering to my complexion!), with a chic black and white interior. Even though I had a first rate experience, there's still a little of the salon snob in me, so I'm not sure I'd be ready to take the plunge and have a drastic revamp here. But for a tidy up or a blow dry for a special occasion, I'd definitely be back.

I get greeted by name on arrival without them looking me up, taken straight to a seat and offered any style of coffee, juice, water etc before quickly being indulged in a pressure point massage. My stylist asks how I'm going to change my hair again this time before washing my hair, giving me a head massage while conditioning it ...all of which is done on an electric massage chair. By this stage I'm ready to fall asleep but I get whisked back to my chair while they snip, chop and whizz my hair into a versatile, manageable and perfect haircut! I'm sure il be returning for many years to come!

She cut about a foot and a half off. My brother measured it when I came home as he was so surprised i went for a shorter hair style as I have ALWAYS worn my hair long. This is a great place to go if you DON'T want long hair. I turned up and she kinda pointed to a round the corner and said Ohh just go sit over there. I was left swinging on the chair while she fussed around the desk area. I explained I needed help, but, I didn't once say I wanted shorter hair. I told her I wanted to keep as much length as possible. My hair now barely reaches my boobs. She even said yep now it's at the top of your bra strap like she was proud!! I will NEVER be going back. It will take me years and years to grow back what she decided to lop off. But what can I do.. It's not like they can glue it back on because frankly I don't want fake hair! Sick of hairdressers that don't listen. I reached behind me and said where is it. she said It will be right once I get over the shock of it. WTF!! p.s. This Japanese hair salon is in the CBD and keeps their clients happy and their hairdressers relatively busy. I've now been there twice: each visit with a different hairdresser and have come out a happy camper. The second time around, I knew I could just pick up one of the magazines and point at it and let the stylist know what I was looking for. Taka, who is a manager stylist and unfortunately has moved up to Brisbane, takes great care when snipping away. You're definitely safer off with a manager stylist, which is worth the extra cost as the prices there are rather wallet-friendly. Customer service there is fantastic! It probably has a lot to do with the (Japanese) culture but from the point of entering ("Konichiwa!!") until when they see you off at the door, they're there mindfully doing their job well. Also, they've got promos like "happy hour" where it's 20% off M-F before noon and others that are released through their newsletters, as well as others like friend referrals. I highly recommend Aria salon if you're looking to get a good haircut, at great value, and fabulous service!
