This is one destination you will not want to miss, as it is where the St. Lawrence River stretches out not far from the base of the cliffs.
It is a splendid introduction to the scenery of Quebec." Though the falls were well-known to the indigenous people who lived there, Samuel de Champlain, a French colonist and the founder of Quebec City, formally named them after the Duke of Montmorency, his patron.
Montmorency Falls has a little something for everyone--walking tours, thrill-seeking activities, cable cars, and a healthy dose of local history
Fact: Montmorency Falls is one-and-a-half times taller than Niagara Falls.
At the top is the Manoir Montmorency which was originally the country house of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, also Queen Victoria's father. The old house built in 1780 was destroyed by a tragic fire accident in 1993. The one you see today is a reconstruction that maintains the architecture of the original building and has a few features of its own.
There are multiple ways to explore Montmorency Falls, Quebec City: take the cable car to the top and walk back down, take the cable car up and down, walk the 480+ stairs up to the cliffside to the top of the waterfalls, or park at the top and walk around a little before returning to your car.
1- Cable car
2- stairs - (app 500 steps) But they warn that the stairs can be tough to navigate during the winter and that sometimes the stairs are closed due to ice.
There are a variety of activities at the park, including hiking trails, playgrounds, bike paths, and a double zip line (well I don't have the courage to cross on fall through zipline- it's 1000 feet)
Parking: Ample parking sports which can be filled quickly on a summer day, especially on weekends
Restrooms, gift shops, cafes facing falls- it's all there.
What I did not like - I was fine with an entry fee, but the cable car cost an extra $16/PP [unlimited ride though], so the whole experience cost me CAD 65 for 2 people. it's not that worth I suppose.
