My experience at Elite was filled with an overwhelming amount of stress and fatigue. However, I would do it all over again knowing the end result. I first went to Elite the summer before my junior year for the SAT Prep Bootcamp. Admittedly, I hated every moment of it in the beginning. However, as the weeks went on, I came to look forward to my classes, as the teachers were friendly and easy to talk to, with a genuine desire to help their students understand the content. Although I may not have always been the best student, Elite's attentive staff and friendly environment combined with endless drilling of essays and math problems helped me improved my score over 200 points. I returned to Elite the summer before my senior year for their college application package. While the price tag on the CAW Plus Package may seem daunting, I can assure you that every cent was worth it. I was assigned to a counselor, Jon Kang, and an essay editor, Cheny Ng. Over the course of dozens of stressful one on one meetings, both on my end and on theirs (sorry Jon), they helped me transform my painfully incoherent essays into ones that were somehow tolerable enough to get me into my number one school. Once again, I found myself looking forward to Elite because my meetings with the counselors were not only filled with improvement, new ideas, and self discovery, they were filled with the amazing feelings of accomplishment and joy. In short, I've come to see Elite as another home because of how comfortable I've grown in that atmosphere and with all the staff. The people there truly care about the success of all their students and take the time and effort to make sure everyone gets the help they need. Vicky, the assistant director, is not professional enough during the consultation appointment. She was not attentive to the conversation by fully listening. Instead of engaging in the conversation, she turned her head to look around which was quite disrespectful to the client. All in all, she is not a good fit to conduct the consultation as Elite could lose potential interested clients. read more

I first heard of Elite from my niece, who has graduated from Berkeley already and has a good job in San Francisco. Following her recommendation, we decided to make an appointment before spring break (10th grade year) started. During the initial academic counseling session with Jon Kang, my son's strength and weaknesses were identified. As we face the numerous out-of-town trips in the summer, we decided to get started right away with the SAT prep sessions, so we could 'get it out of the way' with the June test. The result wasn't too shabby--The score was 1510: English 780/Math 730. He is currently focusing on his online AP Computer Science course. The numerous activities and trips out of town and across 14 time zones sure made it difficult to stay on track, but Elite closely monitors his progress and provides on-site study sessions to ensure that he does not fall behind further. We are confident that he will continue to do well, just like the SAT prep course. read more

She spends a long time talking to us and answering our questions and seems to genuinely care about my daughter's welfare. I know many people who have been here and been told that this "program" is ineffective. There is a lot of deception when it comes to this program, starting from the beginning. Before you enroll, you take a diagnostic test that's out of 1520 which makes your score lower when compared to the grading scale of 1600 on the real SAT. This lures you to sign up for their program creating a false sense of incompetence or insecurity. Eventually you will take practice tests during class and that is graded out of 1600, showing "improvement." It is a scheme to pray upon the many insecurities of parents and students trying to be successful in this competitive educational world. This school is costly as well. Thousands of dollars. This program perpetuates the educational inequity in our society. Only a handful of students can afford to improve their score while the vast majority of working class families see their kids scores fall behind just because of their financial status. You truly have to be "elite" to afford Elite. Good luck. read more

(This is a review that might peak the interest of an Asian parent or two out there...) My parents are not stereotypically Asian. They were okay with B's (*gasp!*), I didn't pay tennis or the violin (although I did play the piano) and I never went to Kumon as a kid. BUT, I was expected to go to a good university for college and thus, they shipped me off to SAT prep at Princeton Review. Now, Princeton Review...how do I say this? IT SUCKED. When I enrolled, I was testing in the low 1300s (it was on a 1600 scale at the time). I went to their courses every week, they taught me "tricks" to test higher, and when I took the SAT right after that close to $1000 course, you know what I tested at? 1370. At most, a 50 point increase. Needless to say, both my parents and I were pissed. Then I heard of Elite from a couple friends who had gone to Elite for SAT prep and were testing in the 1500s (not kidding - one got a 1570 and the other a 1560). So I figured, it's got to be good. I couldn't be any worse than Princeton Review! So I enrolled in Elite's course for the writing portion of the SAT II. Went in testing around the mid-500s (out of 800). What score made it to my transcript? 710. An increase of a little under 200 points. Why is Elite awesome? Lemme sum it up in a single statement: They're run by a bunch of Koreans. Koreans are Asian. Therefore, if you send your kid to SAT prep here, they've got to meet/exceed stereotypical Asian standards. What separates Elite from the rest of the prep courses out there for your kids is that they actually TEACH. You have to test into a class and the instructors (who are amazing, btw) teach to that ability level (rather than having a kid testing at 1200 in the same class as one testing at 1400 and teaching to the both of them). In terms of material, here's a glimpse of the difference: my parents sent my brother to Elite when he was studying for the SATs (they learned from my mistakes). At Princeton Review, I probably had to memorize...eh...200 words to prepare myself for the verbal section of the SAT. My brother had to memorize 2000. Yes, he memorized TWO THOUSAND vocab words. Assuming all else equal (effort, intelligence, etc), if you have one kid learning 200 words and one kid learning 2000 words, who do you think is going to be more prepared? The answer's pretty clear. Yes, I know, a bunch of you people out there are going, "This is dated information! You've been in and out of college - it's been over 5 years since you've taken those standardized tests! How do you know they're still great?" Look at their results. When I was taking my standardized tests, Elite had a program where they would GUARANTEE you a 1500 if you tested into their top class (and looking at their website now, I know they have an equivalent class for the new 2400 score SAT) - no other test prep can guarantee results like that (in the past or in the present). According to their website, they've had 40 students with PERFECT SAT scores (and their students only come from specific areas of California, Korean and Canada). God knows how many more tested in the upper percentiles... Now I know, when I grow up and have kids of my own, I'll probably be the same as my parents and not push them over the edge - I won't be that Asian mom breathing down their necks - but you can damn well be sure they're gonna have to deal with an Asian-run SAT prep. And, seeing that they're all around Southern California, there's a really high possibility that it'll be Elite. (Yes, I realize that this review was really long - But what do you expect? I LOVED my time at Elite. I went for the SAT boot camp, and they helped me raise my SAT score by 400(!!!) points... that was a miracle. And they made the whole college app process a breeze for me! Also, the staff is very cool. They're all fast, efficient, and very in the loop with what's going on in the world of college apps and standardized tests. The office personnel (office manager to assistant director) are very rude, unprofessional, and not prompt at all when it comes to doing a business. I emailed, requesting simple question to be answered; it never came on time. I left a voice message to respond by leaving my cell#; they NEVER responded back. I simply asked for a meeting to go over SAT bootcamp, but kept asking me to "wait" at least two more weeks since NO Counselors are available even though I was NOT asking for a Counseling session!! I called this office three times and kept asked to hold each time. There were no genuine apologies...WOW. They kept "excusing themselves" by saying "we've been so busy- really??", or "I never seen your email..." - right!! And the worst part is no one is taking any responsibility over their unprofessional ism- transferring the phone to other individual(s) at the office and the very last person just "hung up" on me, the parent - how rude, daring, and stupid act is this?? Is this kind of quality of education they provide?? If I were the director of this Arcadia office, or anyone who is financially responsible over this institution; I should be really alarmed (unless you are being blind about the daily business operation of this office) over my office people's unacceptable behavior and manner toward any parent!! I am extremely unhappy with the ways these people (office people as well as counselors) handled admissions or any business with any parent. My experience with this Arcadia office people are terrible. I do not recommend Elite Arcadia to any caring and serious parents wishing their kids to be successful. Parents, stay away from this place and go look somewhere else!!! read more

Rude staff who focus their efforts on teaching students how to take tests and not on actual skills.

I went here supposedly for PSAT prep since they wouldn't let incoming sophmores into their high end SAT classes. My scores only improved by a disappointing 9 (PSAT wise) / 90 (SAT-wise) . I felt cheated out of my money... From this experience...I ended up just self-studying (as motivation should always come from within and not forced by a few teachers) One good thing I can say is that their faculty is quite awesome , friendly and funny. And so... I've known friends that have come here...some have improved 150-300 points and maybe I guess it was worth it for them. You might be fine getting into their top classes , but that might be a problem if you can't. If you can't make it into their top classes...maybe don't bother coming here as you'll be stuck with people that'll slow down your achievement. I self-studied and gained as much as if I were to go to this place ended up not spending a pretty penny unlike many others. Both of my children have been part Elite of Arcadia during the summer month, and with SAT prep. My older son increased his SAT score by 300 pts. My high school just took the SAT and felt very confident during the testing. We know Elite will be there for him to continue to guide him during his high school years. Going to Elite was the best decision I made in my college admissions process. The teachers and staff raised my score from a 2090 to a 2370 over the course of a summer. And I can honestly say I loved my time there. I actually enjoyed my Elite classes more than almost any other high school class I've ever had. There are two fundamental things that I think set Elite apart from other SAT prep programs. First, it's the people. I don't know about the other branches of Elite, but Elite of Arcadia has some of my favorite teachers of all time. They are incredibly intelligent and experienced--they know the in's and out's of the test and explain things in a way that just click. At Elite I had teachers who had graduated from Stanford, Harvard, Northwestern, etc. and it showed in the quality of their teaching. But more than that, they taught our class with sarcastic wit, warm gibes, and a mixture of high expectations and a laid-back style. It created an atmosphere I've never had in a class, and it elevated my experience from worthwhile to something that, when I look back now, makes me genuinely smile. I think a lot of students that finish Elite don't quite know why they loved the experience--to me, this was why. It wasn't just the teachers though. Dominique, the office manager, is incredibly friendly and helpful. And Sharon, the branch director, so clearly cares about the students and the work she's doing. In my first meeting with her, she not only outlined a plan of action for my summer at Elite, but also made it clear what it would take for me to achieve my college admissions goals. She gave me definitive goals to work towards and such excitement for my future that it really energized me to work that much harder that last year and a half before graduating high school. Combined with my SAT scores, maybe that extra dedication was what tipped the scales for the admissions officers. I ended up going to a college I didn't even know was within my reach when I first started this process. Second, it's the curriculum. If the teachers and staff are what make Elite extraordinary, the curriculum is the foundation that makes the whole program foolproof. The workbooks, flashcards, practice tests, homework, and worksheets are clearly well-researched and thorough, yet straight-to-the point. If only all classes were this meticulously prepared. Looking back at the entire experience, I think the practice tests were the best part of the curriculum. We took one every single week, and towards the end of the program, we were warned that they would subtly get harder in preparation for the big day. I groaned my way through those final ones. I didn't understand the logic of the Elite test makers until the actual day of the exam. I remember the shocking moment about 20 minutes in when I realized how easy this test was. It felt like I was dreaming about taking the test instead of actually taking it. I don't think I'll ever feel that way again about any test I take. It was because I was as prepared for it as I could possibly be, and that's thanks to Elite. Of course, Elite can ultimately only offer as much as you put into it. That's true for any SAT prep program out there. But if you're willing to put in the energy, Elite really offers everything you could possibly need to push you to get the best score you can. read more

Elite played a huge role for me back when I was in high school. Their summer SAT boot camp was an experience I actually looked forward to every morning I woke up. The instructors were absolutely amazing and inspiring! My SAT score rose 400 points after taking those summer classes. However my experience with Elite didn't just end there. I came back to take their hybrid AP/SAT Subject Test prep courses during the school year for chemistry and earned high scores on those exams as well. Although exam preparation is what most students seek out from Elite, the most helpful service they provided by far was their College Application workshop. Applying to college isn't as straightforward as many students believe to be, but Elite provided me with the right resources. I was paired with an excellent instructor who guided me through the entire writing process of my personal statement essays from start to finish. There were wonderful counselors who took time to review every detail on my application and gave me great advice on how to perfect them. And thanks to this workshop, I got accepted into my first choice university! I really can't thank Elite and their staff enough for all of their guidance throughout my years of high school. I participated in Elite's dual ACT and SAT class (1600+36 club) over the summer of 2018, and though the cost was pretty high, it was definitely worth it. There were a lot of reasons why I enjoyed my time at Elite, but I'll outline a few here: 1. The Curriculum On my first day of Elite, I was presented with a massive stack of workbooks. They were all incredibly useful-- as a person who sucks at math and had to relearn a ton of basic concepts that I forgot, the math workbook specifically was fantastic. But the most useful part of the curriculum is most likely the practice tests that they gave out every single week. I'm not kidding; I took a practice SAT and ACT every single week I was there. It was worth it since I improved exponentially throughout the program. 2. The Classes The classes themselves were fantastic. Personally, my class was pretty small (about six people), so I was able to interact a lot with my classmates, and we were able to get to know each other pretty well. It helped that we spent every weekday in class, which is a little extreme to me, but since I was preparing for the SAT and ACT I guess it's warranted. The classes themselves were well-structured and always had an end-goal in mind. I was able to find problems that I never even knew I had and fix them, especially when it came to grammar, which has rules that I didn't know existed. I honestly enjoyed my Elite classes more than some of my regular high school ones because of my classmates and how in-depth the courses were, which was fantastic. 3. The Teachers The teachers were honestly the highlight of the class. They were witty and super intelligent, which makes for a great combination when you're trying to learn as much as you can within the span of a few months. Not only were my teachers incredibly helpful, but they also were super supportive, even if I got roasted once in a while for making some pretty dumb mistakes. It may vary from person to person, but all of the teachers I had were able to make the summer so much more enjoyable, which no mean feat considering since I was in class every single weekday. You could tell that they were passionate about what they were doing, and it shone through their teaching. They'll go over literally every single mistake you made and teach you easier ways to do the questions or show you better ways to structure your essays. Shout-out to Jamie specifically for his jokes; sorry that we didn't laugh very much, they were genuinely funny but we were a bit tired :( 4. Seriously, the Teachers I cannot compliment the teachers enough. My experience may have been different from others because of how small my class was, but not only did they give SAT and ACT advice, they also gave life advice. Honestly, my teachers were so supportive and I would like to compliment them more but I'd probably exceed the character limit. 5. They Met my Super Asian Mom's Standards My mom is your classic Asian mom: hardworking and very, very picky about my grades. When I got my scores back, my mom looked at them and she said: "Good, I didn't waste my money." If that's not enough to give a 5/5, I don't know what is. All in all, Elite is a phenomenal program, even if it's a little expensive and lengthy. I highly recommend it to anyone who's trying to get a better score on their SAT or ACT! read more

Elite really guided me step-by-step through my entire college application process. My counselor and editor worked with me to highlight my strengths in my essays and showed me strategies for writing in a compelling and meaningful way while still being authentic. One thing I really enjoyed about their approach was how they didn't try to hold my hand the entire time. I was still in control of my application and I liked how I was able to write what I wanted the way I wanted, but with some professionals to give me pointers in the right direction. I'm extremely grateful to have received so much help from Elite. I am a parent of twin boys who took the winter boot camp for the ACT. We just received their Feb 2017 scores on Friday and were blown away by how well they did! From the original diagnostic test, both boys improved exactly 5 points, with one of them achieving a 35! In addition to the boot camp, Jon, the director, gave a substantial amount of support throughout the program and gave very helpful guidance and college advice. We also benefited from excellent advice on summer programs. One of my older sons has a friend who recommended Elite's ACT program and we are so glad that he did. The twins are now signed up to take Elite's spring program for an AP class. I wish I had known about Elite years ago. It's so nice to put the responsibility of test preparation in the hands of these experts. Teachers at Elite Prep are rigorous and experienced. Elite send progress reports weekly by E-mails and let me see my son's improvement. Before I came to Elite, I heard a lot about how many people felt it was ineffective. Either way, I still decided to come because I needed help on the SAT, so I paid around 3k for the summer bootcamp, along with MANY other students - it was almost like a mini summer school. During this period, we took practice tests, most of which you can just find online by yourself without any purchase. The teachers would be available for you to ask questions, but I felt that some of their answers were not effective, minus Jose, who was fun and was able to teach math really well. At Elite, I would score consistently in the 1400 - 1500 range, with the exception of my first test, being in the low 1300s. On my essays, they would grade me in the 20 range, so I was confident entering the test, which unfortunately turned out terrible. I did not get the score I wanted, and scored pretty much the same score that I got first entering the program, which means almost 3k wasted. Overall, they have nice staff and teachers, but I don't feel that the way they teach students is effective, because their material is easily discoverable online. read more

Both our girls enrolled with Elite in Arcadia the summer before their senior year. They were in the intensive SAT prep course that met three times a week with weekly mock SAT exams on Sat. mornings. The discipline, rigor and accountability from the teachers as well as the counselor, Jon Kang, all contributed to the girls' success on their actual SAT exams. Our senior will be attending the University of Chicago in the fall of 2019 and we are very grateful for the role Elite Prep Arcadia played in her college admissions process. I have my fair share of experiences when it comes to SAT test prep and college prep, as I have been attending after-school programs since I began elementary school. Elite of Arcadia is 100% the best educational program I have been a part of. I first took SAT prep here during the summer before my junior year. My diagnostic test wasn't too shabby, and I was a bit hesitant to even take classes because I thought that if I had just prepared for the test I would've done well. However, the classes are structured very carefully around the test, and there would be no way to gain such a comprehensive preparation without them. The instructors themselves are incredibly well credited-- my SAT grammar/writing teacher graduated from Northwestern, my math from UCLA, my reading comprehension from Stanford, and my vocabulary from Harvard. Many of the teachers also take the SAT with their students to gain more insight on the format as well as difficulty and topical ideas for their next classes. These classes are not only incredibly helpful (my SAT score jumped up 300 points, and the class that I was in [2400 club] had scores of pretty much all above 2300 in the old SAT system), but they are also interactive and enjoyable. I definitely had fun during class because the teachers know that we're dedicating our summers to this, and create a learning environment that is focused yet relaxed and full of side jokes and silly puns. I loved this program so much that I ended up coming to Elite again for help on my college apps. Elite has this program where if you are a previous student from SAT/ACT classes, they will automatically give you a nice discount and many perks (plus you know the counselors decently well already). I was overwhelmed by the amount of support that I received, as my essays received seemingly hundreds of revisions. All the counselors there are extremely dedicated and spend extensive hours helping their students, and they really get to know you on a personal level so they can really help you put yourself into 650 words. Along with the academic help (I applied to way too many schools but they were still willing to spend long hours with me), I also received a lot of emotional support. I was definitely going through many things during this time and my counselor was very kind in everything that she did, and often stayed with me as I cried and handed me tissues as well as little snacks to help boost my energy. Even after these two programs, I still keep in touch with them! I recently went back to visit during my winter break of my freshman year in college, and continually email them to update them about my life. They are genuinely interested in how their students are doing, even after they help you through high school. Elite of Arcadia is hands down the perfect place to be during academic need. They help you gain a competitive edge in this age of hectic college admissions processes and become your lifelong friends in the process. I definitely would not be where I am without them, and I appreciate everything this branch has done for me. read more

Elite was great! They helped me increase my SAT score by about 400 points. Everyone in the office staff was friendly, helpful, and caring. Their program really makes the student (as long as you follow it) learn how to successfully take the SAT, which was exactly what I needed. As a side note, they are also very helpful and knowledgable about the college application process. They can help you with any questions that you may have, which is really reassuring since college application time is a really stressful time for seniors. I highly recommend going to Elite Prep if you are looking to improve your SAT score or just to get tutoring in any subject. I took elite for the SAT Afternoon Boot Camp in the summer of 2018 and I have mixed feelings about it but I'll give a long explanation explaining why. Lets first start with the cons. 1. The cost is super high. If you are planning to come to elite, be ready to have at least $2,000 for their SAT boot camps. Since you're paying so much, you would expect a massive improvement. Well, it depends. My score didn't go as much as I anticipated for the high cost they took. I know some companies have a guarantee point increase and if it does not make it, they give free lessons to make up for it. Elite unfortunately doesn't do that. 2. Some teachers look super dead and are super boring. By being boring, no students will want to listen and it's difficult to stay awake. I tried my absolute best to listen and it is tough. 3. Some teachers are not the greatest. I had Greg as my reading teacher and it was an absolute disappointment. My reading score has stayed consistent the entire summer which is VERY upsetting. It actually dropped from a raw score of 30 to 27, has not improved at ALL. I don't understand why Greg is still a teacher. 4. A lot of homework which is good but kinda tough if you are busy during the summer. Now let's talk about the pros: 1. I loved my math teacher so much. Liz was an amazing teacher. Explained everything super throughly and was always open for questions and explained them in such a great way. My math has improved so much and I can say that is all because of elite. 2. OFFICE HOURS!!! Amazing time to get extra help. Look for your favorite teachers and go to their office hours. I went into Greg's office once for an hour and half and I regretted. However, when I went into a different teacher's office hour, I was able to do better. 3. Very nice staff. They are quick and always there to help with questions. 4. Practice SATS every week. You really do learn from your mistakes and test review is an amazing way to do so!!! Hope this review helped. Overall, I am happy with my math improvement but reading is a disappointment. This was an amazing SAT class and I am very glad that I flew 2,600 miles to go here. The teachers were all incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and very funny. Despite only being there for 8 weeks, I learned very much there and got to love my SAT class. The teachers are very committed to helping their students and have office hours available for students that want additional, individual assistance. They not only taught what was required of them from the workbook, but also taught us very useful additional tips for how to do well on the SAT. Two of my SAT teachers, Jon and Darren, even took a Saturday to teach us further on how to write an essay and how to tackle the Critical Reading passages simply because they felt that it would be great additional help to their students, and it was. Elite also offers helpful college application workshops that taught me where to start when applying to colleges. This was completely free, yet the experienced staff gave expert advice for college applications. This class is certainly worth the cost and boosted my SAT scores tremendously. I took the real SAT in March, and scored a 1980; 620 Critical Reading, 650 Math, and 710 writing. After finishing Elite in August, I averaged high 700s in math and almost made an 800, and I persistently only got 2 or 3 multiple choice questions wrong on the writing. Additionally, my essay score went from a 5 on my first practice test to an 8 on my last one. My daughter went through Elite since being a freshman in high school. She recently graduated with multiple acceptances at Ivy League schools thanks to Elite. Elite prep has helped me much in my high school classes and testing for college. I took their ACT and college essay workshops. Elite of Arcadia has been a huge part of my life since I spent a good amount of my summer and winter learning as a student and helping out as an admin after I graduated high school! I had to come back to work here because I have benefited so much not just learning but the teachers and admin staff members are so friendly and helpful. The teachers that I had as a student (Andy, Linus, Aaron, Jamie, and of course Henry) are all people who actually care about students' future and education. They try to get the class to engage and participate and by the end of the bootcamp the whole class just become like a family. Sometimes I get the feeling that I learn more than I do at school... They even hold office hours, giving students an opportunity to come and ask questions. I LOVE ELITE because it was a very fun but challenging place and definitely worth it. From the nice teachers to the nice staff to the amazing directors. The people there made it comfortable and welcoming. Everyone there have taught me not only the skills for the SAT but also helping me with my personal statements and my college apps. Elite helped me improve my SAT score by 890 points! Also, I was able to attain the colleges I wanted. I felt like Elite has supported me in so many ways from all the tests and homework to all the jokes and laughs; it is memory to cherish.
