I was talking about getting my kitchen knives sharpened. Perv. ---- Incredibly affordable cost-per-inch of sleek, sexy steel is only one facet of the brilliance of The Japanese Knife Company. I wonder if this might be their flagship store (of three or four outlets), as it's notably larger than the Soho location. Similar to its sister shop, stunningly beautiful cutting implements are displayed in prominent glass cases, and it's the first time I've seen their attention-grabbing magnetic wood knife blocks in person. Whether you just need the aid of a proper whetstone for a blunted edge or you're looking to make a serious investment in some new kitchen equipment, a visit here is likely to make you crave a utensil upgrade in your life!

If you love to cook, then the Japanese Knife Company is a place that you have to visit…read more We were headed to the Wallace collection when husband and sister spotted a chess set and chairs at a shop nearby and decided to stop for a game. I told them that I would wait for them at JKC as I had been wanting to visit the shop for ages. They changed their minds and decided to walk into the store with me, while the husband tried to argue "a knife is a knife is a knife" Within 5 minutes of entering the shop, he was eating his words. Jai gave us such an amazing demonstration, from onions that didn't make our eyes cry (because of the sharpness of the blade) to slicing tomato slivers that we didn't think could get any thinner. We spent 2 hours at the shop while he demonstrated different knives and gave us backgrounds on the families who forge some of these knives. It was very well done and did not feel like hard sell at all. Some of the knives are works of art. 128 layers of steel pressed to less than a millimetre! And then the carving on some of them. Absolutely beautiful. There's a section downstairs with beautiful handles specifically for carving roasts at the table. They have these very interesting water sharpeners and cases for your knives. I ended up picking a multi purpose knife that works for everything except frozen meat and butchery (both of which I don't do) They even printed my name on it in a couple of minutes. I have to go back to pick up my knife, because I was worried it would get confiscated at museum security. Can't wait to start using it!

I love this little cook store. It has such a nice feel to it with its bright decor and really cool…read morestuff. The staff are really helpful in here and do not mind you browsing. They are simply at hand if you need them. I was really pissed off to find that they had a pan steamer which was the exact product I bought just days ago in Islington for only 4.50. In fact the bigger one was still cheaper at 5.50 than the 5.99 I paid for the small one in Islington. What a bummer. They have a huge selection of chopping boards as well ranging from small to extra large and everything in between. Also they have a full range of pots and pans, kitchen knives and crockery. This store is great and the prices are obviously very competitive as I found out the hard way.

A beautiful little shop designed for all your whisking, molding and icing making needs…read more So beautifully kitsch it'll make even the less domesticated of us inspired to don a Cath Kidson apron and start that Souffle (you've never thought of before you came into this shop) you've been meaning to make. It's self contained with a good selection of trendy and useful design pieces of kitchenware for the modern kitchen. Novelty chopping boards and cupcake cases galore. I think that a shop like this managing to survive is testament to its success. Ealing Broadway shopping centre is just around the corner with quite a bit of competition from the big boys who also market home wear. While even though even a shop as beautiful and as tempting as this can not make a house-wife out of me yet, it's a great little find for those budding chefs out there. Shop local! Support this great independent.
