I believe most of its usage is usually musical artists and small intimate concerts, but I was here to see a play. Specifically, I was watching "A Christmas Carol", a work I have always been fond of for my entire life. This was a special one hour adaptation of the play, written by Dr Andrew Harris. We did not come to McKinney specifically to see the play, but while we were there we were looking for a particular bookstore. Tiny Tim was outside the Performing Arts Center drumming up people to come in and watch the play when my wife asked him (really her) where we would find the bookstore. When we got to the bookstore, wouldn't you know, there was Dr Harris, doing an Author/Writer visit. How could we not take that as a sign and attend the play! Glad we did, it was a great experience!

My daughter had enrolled in a group music class at Frisco School of Music and Performing Arts and…read morehad already begun attending when we were unexpectedly told the class was canceled due to "low enrollment" -- a requirement that was never disclosed directly in communications before enrollment. When I reached out asking for a fair resolution (such as continuing the class, converting to private/semi-private at the same rate, or receiving a refund), owner Chris Duncan responded by removing my daughter from all of her classes, including the ballet class she was also enrolled in and very much enjoyed. There was no mention of any policy violation or behavioral issue--simply removal following my inquiry. This action caused real emotional distress for my daughter. She had formed bonds with classmates and the teacher, was excited for ballet each week, and had even laid out her ballet outfit ahead of class. Having everything abruptly taken away left her confused and upset, repeatedly asking why she couldn't return to class. I reviewed all enrollment paperwork and found no clause allowing cancellation mid-term for low enrollment, nor any provision allowing the removal of a student from unrelated classes for raising concerns. We were hoping for a nurturing, transparent, and supportive learning experience. Instead, the decision by Chris Duncan following our request for resolution has left us deeply disappointed. I urge other parents to get all cancellation and enrollment terms clearly stated in writing before enrolling.

Well, you get what you pay for. No glitz, no glam, no glitter about this place. Inconsistency with instructors (three in a year), curriculum, and award system (tokens for prizes given out with the first instructor but not the other two). We viewed the class on a TV screen but got to go into the studio once every other month to see them dance in person. The studio was always frigid (65 degrees) through the winter and summer time. I understand these girls are working up a sweat but they all came down with cold arms and hands. As for the recital, it was short and sweet. All classes (about seven classes with 10 girls in each) arrived early to get dressed. They all walked on stage and danced together. Then, each class did their own dance. At the end, they all got back on stage and did a final dance. Most other ballet studios have each class doing three individual routines. Depending on how long you want to stick around, I didn't mind this setup. The staff are mostly amicable. Shout out to Ms. Amanda for challenging the girls with difficult moves and also having lots of patience dealing with a bunch of girls with short attention spans.

Our 10 and 11 year old girls have been attending SOR McKinney for just about 18 months as part of…read morethe Rock 101 program. We discovered the program through a colleague of my wife's whose son has been a participant in the Frisco school's program for several years. Both my wife and I were in band in school many years ago, so we thought this would be a great opportunity for the girls to learn a practical instrument and get some performance experience to help them not be shy. Since joining the program, the girls have had a number of instructors: one that has an advanced education in classical guitar, one that has a higher education background in early childhood development, and several that have toured nation-wide as real musicians. Some of those instructors were in fact students once in other SOR schools. And throughout the program, the entire staff, and even culture of the school, has been very positive and supporting. In the past 18 months, the girls have played multi-venue concerts in Deep Ellum twice, they have played in a battle of the bands at the House of Blues, and numerous other concerts at bars and restaurants in and around McKinney and Frisco. My younger girl stays glued to the electric guitar, and my older girl mainly plays the drum kit, but sings and plays bass on the side. Together, our girls teamed up with a little boy in their 5th grade class and played a song (from SOR) in their elementary school's talent show a few months ago, and they rocked the house and put some elementary school teacher's in shock! My wife and I were in awe, and we both commented what it would been like to have been rock stars even before going into junior high and middle school (we were nowhere near this cool!). I haven't seen any program similar to what SOR is doing: they work on temp, rhythm, and style all the while driving the kids to perform in front of others. They leave reading music and theory to the public schools to teach (which for me was the not-so-fun part). Doing it this way, the kids are only learning that music is fun and rewarding, but my oldest is starting 6th grade in the fall where she will start complementing what she has been learning with those extra skills of reading music, etc. Its been a very good program; very positive results. To address the other reviewer that alluded to drugs being present at the school: I am a software development manager that runs an international organization which in the past has required me to have security clearances. My wife is a top nurse practitioner who is respected as deeply knowledgeable in multiple fields. There is absolutely no way we would allow our kids to be involved in this program if there was any hint of illegal activity. I have sat in their building for countless hours waiting for practices to be over, and I have never seen this. The building is definitely shabby chic (meaning a little bit of a dump), but so are many of the performance venues--that's part of what it means to be a performer. But, its good enough; the program is expensive enough without needing to make it into a lounge. We highly recommend.

I knew we wanted to do a Bellydancing class, but really did not know where to start finding a "Ladies Night" class. I was referred to Raena by a mutual acquaintance, and thank goodness! She is absolutely amazing. She was so easy to work with, professional, and very responsive. We scheduled everything through email and I was even able to pay the extremely reasonable rate through a PayPal invoice, which made life super easy. I also know that she was almost completely booked for the day of the party, but she squeezed us into her crazy schedule, which was so wonderful. The class was so much fun and really gave us a great respect for bellydancers - it was challenging! But Raena really broke down the steps in a simple-to-follow way and we even ended with a quick performance by the group to show off what we learned. By request, Raena also gave us a brief personal performance which was absolutely beautiful. Our group really appreciated her teaching ability, relaxed and comfortable vibe, and loved that she took some time to explain the history and relevance of specific forms and techniques. We all left feeling happy and were even able to show off some of our new skills at a Moroccan restaurant later that night :) Thank you so much, Raena!
