I was a patient here for years. The office actually used to be really great, but something happened in the last couple of years. I'm not sure what it was, but if i had to guess, I would say that I saw Dr. Benjamin become a bit of a diva over a relatively short period of time. She started outsourcing work to other doctors, brought in assistants who didn't know what they were talking about, and had all the good people getting so frustrated with her lack of organization and focus that they hated working there and had to bolt. The lady who used to give those deep cleanings (which were amazing at one point, by the way) was fantastic, and she's now gone. I recall her speaking about how awful of a place it was to work-- why did I not take the signal and leave with her to greener pastures? Oh I wish I would have.
The ladies at the front desk are an exception. They're wonderful. But unfortunately, they work for a nightmare of a dentist and need to get new jobs.
What the hell happened? I think Dr Benjamin probably got excited that she was successful and liked, maybe heard someone talk about how they outsource things at their office, and wondered, "Why not me?"
I had a lot of weird things happen here, but had never had any other better experiences at dentists in LA (I still haven't! and I'm not sure I trust anyone on Yelp who glows so much all freakishly about their dentists). Strangely, I went in once and they told me that I had a $900 credit from overbilled insurance on my ledger. When I went to use this credit, the amount given against my bill was significantly less than I was originally told. That was weird, and wait... why did they overbill my insurance? What's going on here?
Maybe that should have been a dealbreaker, but that last appointment was the first for a a crown, and I had to have the darn thing put in the next time around. Well, that would be my final appointment. My crown, this crazy porcelain gizmo that costs like $1100 and is going to be glued into my mouth FOREVER... was given to this girl who I have guessed is a cousin or sister of one of the more experienced and sane people who works there. This inexperienced person, on her self-proclaimed first day of work, was given my crown to glue into my mouth UNSUPERVISED. Before I realized what was going on, she was freaking out about how it had started to set and that it was crooked. Well, they eventually got it right, but not without jostling my tooth so hard that it hurt for months afterward. I have never been through something so ridiculous.
But wait, there's more. Then I received the bill. The ridiculously inflated bill. I had been told my insurance would cover the procedure I received, but oh no, they did not check, and the insurance did not bill and I was left owing a very large sum of money. Since, the office has heard my complaint and reduced the amount of the bill and I have paid it off. But I only did this to get this office out of my life once and for all.
