The set up reminds me a bit of that sweet shop at the start of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Y'know, the little one before all the short brown men start popping up singing and dancing. The shop itself is very charming as it offers a variety of bits and bobs, including small children's toys, as well as having a small area at the back of the shop where hot drinks can be purchased and drank in a peaceful, friendly environment. Neither I nor the recipients have ever been disappointed with the quality or presentation of the flowers. I would definitely recommend ordering in advance for occassions such as mother's day as it can get extremely busy and near impossible to obtain a last minute bouquet made to order. However Alexandra's also offers a small range of gifts such as vases and ornaments which are equally delightful and often quite unusual which means a truly distinctive gift. My experiences with buying flowers usually involve a quick dash to a local supermarket the day before Mother's Day in a frantic attempt to get a decent bouquet for under a fiver that still says 'I Love You, Mum'. With that in mind, I headed to Alison's with a determination to try and find a decent bunch of flowers for a special occasion. The selection of flowers and arrangements on offer at Alison's is both extensive and impressive and even though I'm pretty clueless when it comes to flowers, what I can say is that they all looked very bright and colourful, which is basically my only way to judge a good bunch of flowers (ooh, look at all the lovely colours). The staff at Alison's were friendly and very helpful, meaning even someone as oblivious as me was able to pick a nice bouquet with their help. The prices of their flowers did seem quite expensive, but then again I'm used to coming home with change from a tenner when I usually buy them, so I guess you're paying for quality with anything you buy here.

I consider Florettes a great back up more than a first choice florist, especially for special occassions as their bunches and bouquets generally lack class and, in my experience the flowers do not last long, which is disappointing considering the price.

The remainder will join them very shortly. The most distressing aspect is that friends and colleagues have contributed to what they would naturally consider to be an appropriately fitting gift. How disappointed, embarassed and annoyed they would be to see the fruit of their kindness.....

Now you don't have to worry about your bouquet dripping all over you because these flowers are neatly packaged with no extra effort needed on your behalf. I've received praise and compliments from boyfriends' mothers, for example, when turning up with one of these boxes (and occasionally a bottle of wine to sweeten the deal), and it always softens the blow of meeting the parents for the first time - especially if the mother then scolds the boyfriend for never bringing her flowers! Yeah, that relationship didn't last very long.... Anyway, back to the flowers. As you can see from the pictures, not just flowers but small trees and bushes. And if you don't want to splash out on a flower box (around £15) you can opt for picking out a few singular stems and have them wrapped up all lovely like!

I love surprising friends with fresh flowers that don't look like thay have come from the local garage. Lula delivers and the prices are reasonable. It's just below street level but you can't miss the large pink sign. They don't have a website so I'll post some photos to show their creativity. On my trip to Lula I purchased a varied and colourful arrangement of lilys and carnations with various other types of flowers thrown in there. This was all done on the reccomendation of the extremely helpful staff who simply asked who the flowers were for and the kind of arrangement I would like and took it from there. This kind of service is sadly missing from many modern day businesses and it was an extremely satisfying feeling to have experienced such excellent customer service and attention to detail. The arrangement cost around £7.00 which was a reasonable amount for an above par level of service. Lula is a much fresher and personal alternative to purchasing flowers which are sold at the Spa store a few doors up. If you are a Liverpool local with a need to cheer up a special someone visit Lula and I promise you will not feel dissapointed.
