I started my search for new stereo/home theater equipment online but was frustrated that I really…read morehad little idea how the equipment, especially speakers, truly sound. I was envisioning some purchase/return scenarios, which seemed like a LOT of hassle. Then I discovered The Listening Room in Saginaw. My initial thoughts were that I probably couldn't afford to shop there, but I thought I would give them a look. I am so glad I did. They have a full range of equipment and prices, from beginner to true audiophile. While they physically just can't offer the wide range of offerings one could find while looking at an online warehouse, they have done a fantastic job of filtering out the "also rans" and selecting the best items at each price level. The items they do offer are very highly rated and reviewed. Items they sell are available on display to see, feel, explore, and HEAR. I knew how things worked, what the capabilities were, what it felt like and what it sounded like. The owners were extremely helpful and patient with me, they were interested that I felt right about my new equipment, and there was no pressure or upsell. They also helped me understand the proper setup and functions of my new stuff. The worry about how I might return something if it wasn't right was gone completely. I was happy and I could take the item home with me that day. The very best part? I PAID LESS! I got hands (and EARS!) on experience, expertise to help me understand the setup and functions of my equipment in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere, all at a lower price than I would have had I ordered online. Their prices were equal to, or lower than, ANY price I could find for the same new equipment. I am not associated with The Listening Room in any way other than being a VERY satisfied customer. They helped me get the very best sound that I could afford, and I think they could do the same for you.

I found a wonderful, antique framed photograph I bought at a great price. The owner was there when we were, he was very nice, chatted with us for a while. The women at the counter weren't particularly warm, but one had just gotten blasted by an obnoxious older guy because he complained that the store charges an extra 6% to customers who pay with a credit or debit card, to cover the fees associated with that. She told him to take it up with the bank and he got really mad and loud about that. So, in fairness, I can understand why when we got to the counter she was a little distant. We'll go back, we prefer high-end true antiques more than newer and flea market type items, but it seemed there were good things at good prices with a bit of searching.
