I am disappointed with Elan. I paid the account off today. I was 3 days late but I never received any notice of the due date for this account. They told me in order to receive notices I needed to log on to the account and note that they needed to send me notices for everything with the account. Interesting even though I paid this off I will get not get a notice that it is paid off. Every account I have with all other vendors: banks, utilities, credit cards, etc. they send me notices regularly. Actually they did send me a notice a couple of months back that because I've been late on paying they will not lend me more that x amount of dollars. Not a problem will likely never do business with them again. read more

I am extremely disappointed with how this situation has been handled. I was assessed a late fee despite making a payment on the 1st of the month. At no point was I clearly informed that making a payment before the due date could result in my account being treated as delinquent because of an internal billing cycle or cutoff date. Had this information been communicated, I would have adjusted my payment schedule accordingly. What is particularly troubling is the lack of proactive communication. I did not receive an email, text message, phone call, or any other notification advising me that a payment had been missed. The only indication was a red banner displayed when I happened to log into my account. If Elan is going to impose penalties and late fees, it should be equally diligent in notifying customers when there is an issue with their account before assessing those charges. I was advised that someone would contact me regarding my request to have the late fee waived. Instead, I received an email from Michael informing me that the fee would not be removed. Ironically, while Elan was able to send an email denying my request, no email was sent to alert me that a payment had supposedly been missed or that my account was at risk of being charged a late fee. The issue is not simply the amount of the fee. It is the principle. Customers should not be penalized for circumstances that could have been easily prevented through reasonable communication and transparency. As a result of this experience, I have lost confidence in Elan's business practices and customer service. Once my balance is paid in full, I intend to close my account and take my business elsewhere. I prefer to do business with companies that prioritize transparency, fairness, and customer communication. I respectfully request that this matter be reviewed again and that the late fee be removed. read more

I overpaid by $11,000 on my account by accident. 3 months later they still have not returned the money to me They sent me a letter saying that they sent it to my bill pay but my bill pay has no record of it. My bank and bill pay has stated that they would need a trace number on the transaction so that they can see where the money went. I have called ELON FINANCIAL 3 months in a row requesting that Trace number and they will not give it to me but instead give me a runaround every time I call. You can never speak to the same person twice which is a huge part of the problem. When you do get through to a supervisor they don't know what's going on with the account until you explain everything again and again. It a nightmare dealing with this company. Today I sent a certfied letter to the president of the company, Peter Klukken. Perhaps he will look into the incident himself and realize that he either has a thief in his company that pocketed over $11,000 or an incompetent staff who never put a trace number on an $11,000 transaction. Either way it is no longer my problem unless they attack my perfect credit with this nonsense. In that case I will see them in court. read more

Elan Financial Services has a horrible 866 specialist phone number. I tried contacting them 8 times, and each time there was no response. Why give out a toll-free number to customers and never pick up the calls? Yes, I did call between 7 am and 9 pm CT. read more

Shady company to say the least. If they don't like you it doesn't matter what your credit score is or how much money you make they will do everything they can to deny you. Let's say you have a 300 dollar secured card and owe no money on it, but also have like 6 unsecured cards with 16k dollars available and owe no money on those cards, then one day you go why do I have this secured card I should upgrade it that's kinda embarrassing. Well guess what. You can't. Not if they don't like you. If you call and tell them you make 120k a year and your credit is good it doesn't matter. They make up a bunch of bs that they can't override the system and there's nothing you can do. Ask me how I know. This place is a total joke. Hope the CEO reads this. read more

That's what you need to do. Otherwise, you won't hear back and they'll just still be sitting on your money. My bank sent me here and I am advocating extremely hard to make sure they don't send any more business their way. Do not give your money to these people. The customer authentication department's phone number, (866)-268-7231, is useless unless you enjoy elevator music. I have been trying to contact them for days and no one ever answers, just a recording saying that all customer representatives are busy and will answer as soon as possible, which must be when hell freezes over. It's pathetic. read more

ELAN Finacials is an unscrupulous company where customer service is nonexistent. No communication platforms are provided. ELAN purposely evades responsibility for its mistakes, and submits negative credit reports to credit companies without any consideration of documentation proving otherwise. They cover up their mistakes, and harrass cuustomers incessantly instead of looking into ELAN's ERRORS. I want NOTHING to do with this compqny. Do not recommend this shadey financial "institution", and I use that term loosely. Recently paid off a 0% offer a month in advance only to find a trailing interest fee. Called to inquire what that was about, since I had paid the balance off in advance of the promotional period. Was told that the balance has to be clear for TWO MONTHS to avoid any trailing interest! What a joke, told them to close the account immediately. Trash outfit with shade tactics, makes since given they are based out of california. read more

I had a credit card through Elan Financial Services for several years (from another entity that I won't name as my issue isn't with them). However, due to the low credit limit, as compared to every other credit card I've ever had, I rarely used it. As a matter of fact, I had stopped using it completely and left it in a locked safe that only I have access to and where it had been for, at least, 18-24 months. So not only hadn't I used it but it hadn't left the safe for close to two years. In June of this year, I had received a "declined transaction" message from my bank (on behalf of Elan Financial Services) for a "card-not-present" transaction attempting to purchase tickets to an event several states away from me where I have never been and have no connection with. Of course, I confirmed that, obviously, it wasn't me and cancelled the card as I wasn't using it anyways. To be fair, I'm very happy that they caught and stopped the transaction from going through. However, upon further reflection it occurred to me that something very fishy had occurred here as the only place that information could have been accessed from was their internal records - as I don't have that information saved electronically anywhere and the card itself was locked in a safe. Also, when I looked into further, I discovered it they just happened to have a subsidiary office in the town/city in which the transaction was attempted. Is it just me or does that sound extremely suspicious? I hadn't used it AT ALL and it hadn't been anywhere where it could have been compromised or scanned/captured in at least 18 months. When I brought that fact up with the person from their security team, they said that they would investigate further and have the police look into and that I would probably get a call soon. I can't prove that the card was accessed internally by a member of their staff or possibly a contractor working for them but I also can't think of another scenario that would explain how this card's info was accessed with it having been locked away for so long. It seems EXTREMELY unlikely that someone scanned it with one of those skimmer devices they talk about on the news 2 years ago and then waited until June of this year to use it. I never did hear back from them or anyone else regarding this situation but, as long as the card has been cancelled (which I received physical and electronic confirmation of) and I wasn't charged for the nefarious transaction, I'm just going to move on and never do business with them again. Based on my experience, I would recommend avoiding this company and possibly considering cancelling any card that you may already have with them. read more

My grandma has dementia, and I have been trying to resolve her account for months. Representatives treat me like a con, POA paperwork that I have faxed over twice has not been recorded, all the while her account stacks with late fees. Horrible. Have the Fidelity credit card. Elan cancelled it claiming fraud. I call the CC service line and they just transfer me to the FRAUD line and repeat the same - music, hold and wait .. I just hang up after 20-40 minutes now. Who has time for that junk? Wow. I'm shocked but not surprised at the amount of negative reviews here. I absolutely get why this business has so many of them. For months now I have been trying to pay THEM as I attempt to settle my deceased mother's estate account. They have fumbled the process every step of the way since September, (my mother passed in June), and with a tremendous lack of empathy. They've fumbled so badly, that they have my mother's account in collections now! On my last phone call a few weeks back I gave them the estate checking account information directly over the phone to deduct the payment. Their response? To send me a collections notice, on two occasions since November, demanding payment. I've been able to pay every creditor on my Mom's behalf except for Elan services. I'm absolutely floored at the level of incompetency I have been met with at this company. Next stop after this review for me is the BBB and my Attorney Generals Office! read more

Carla or Karla or whatever from customer service was just horribly unhelpful, unfriendly, and unprofessional.

In keeping with their tradition of poor reviews, I must submit one myself. My own financial institution sold their credit union credit card services to Elan in early Nov. What a mistake that was!! Thus far, after several phone call and an attempted intervention by my credit union, Elan has failed to process several of my purchases-including an early payment I made over a week ago. This is a financially non-functioning entity and I heartily encourage NO ONE to have ANY financial interactions with this horrible corporation. I myself am in the process of informing all of my credit holders I am cancelling all transactions and will provide a new credit card from which to process payments. read more

Do not use this financial institution. I paid off a credit card in full and had to do a stop payment on it. Paid off the credit card three days later and the bank reversed the payment by error. The bank fixed their error and I re payed the credit card off. Elan closed my account under a fraud flag even after knowing the mistake that was made. So I contacted the bank and now they are contacting the elan financial institution and explaining the mix up. I have been an excellent card holder for over a year. I paid on time and over the minimum payment. Elan thinks they can screw consumers for paying off their credit cards early by negatively effecting my credit for the next 10 years. Elan financial institution is a company that doesnt play fair nor do they treat their customers the right way. Do not use this company for their personal or business credit cards. This is how they treat great customers who pay their credit cards off. I wouldn't give them one star but I had to give them something in order to leave a review. Avoid elan credit cards at all costs. read more

The worst credit card ever. I paid off my card in full and had a credit on my account when the due date came and they still charged me interest. They are the worst. I have a Water & Power Credit Union account which sold to Elan and now all credit cards are now under Elan. I have been on the phone for over 4 hours trying to resolve an issue with them charging me fees AFTER I had paid off my credit card. I never use my card and somehow I have $131.42 in fees. Although everyone I've spoken to has been nice, they are extremely unorganized and keep transferring me to the original prompt which ends up hanging up randomly or sends me back to square one. It seems like nobody can actually help which is a complete waste of time. They claim that I do not have sufficient fund in my paying account and charge late fee while none of this is true. I tried to call them and they tell me to go to my bank to resolve the issue. I contacted my bank and figured out what was wrong. It took even the bank manager a while to help me figure things out. It was a misunderstanding about which account in linked for payment. The customer service does not handle my call well at all. The person kept insisting that it was all my fault, they have sent multiple letters to inform me( about what???) and also even claimed that they can view all my records and activities in their website so in one words, it's all my fault. My request and complain to get a refund for late fee was made up- the customer service was acting like your narcissistic boss who always needed to have the upper hand instead of giving service. I even called Apple Support to check the settings on my phone. This has happened 3 times and there are false statements recorded in the customer service records by the case processor supervisor. All I get is a runaround. I am being charged for a purchase that was never received and the merchant has the product back but refuses to refund me and Elan reversed the temporary credit. I have an Elan credit card through my bank and brokerage firm with a high credit line and very low balance. I made a payment 3 days prior to due date, however, I was told that it was late after they reduced my credit line by more than $15,000, and adversely impacted my utilization ratio and credit score. For months, after numerous telephone calls and providing documentation at my expense, Customer Service and Underwriting gave me multiple reasons. TODAY, I was told by a rude Underwriting staff that it was because I was overdue on one payment of $70. Really? This entire experience was a nightmare - rude and uninformed staff. Made a second payment but I start getting declined notices. I called. I have plenty of room on the card. They stated because I changed the institution I am using to PAY MY BILL they have a 7 day hold. Even though (as they stated it was a system error) they accepted and posted my first payment, all of a sudden, the second payment has a hold. Of course......there is nothing they can do.....I have to wait for 7 days. The most insane explanation and BS excuse I've ever heard. read more

This financial service is the worst experience, ever! I have 11 credit cards, and pay them down every month to avoid interest, while keeping my utilization under 20%.. My local credit union had a promotion with this credit card company. I signed up after being told that the minimum credit line is $3,000.00. My annual salary is over six digits, and I thought for sure with my good credit (as most of my cards are over 5,000.00) I would get a better limit. This goofy institution gave me a $1,000.00 credit limit-what a joke! REALLY?! Had I known that I would have never signed up. When I reached out to them they said there was no increase available and that I was locked in at $1,000.00. Customer service is not helpful in any way-as far as setting up paperless billing, resetting a passwords for online usage, and they wanted to give me another hard hit on my credit report to check to see if they could increase my credit limit. DAMMIT. My hope is that my credit union will see that their discerning customers do not like doing business with Elan and they will find another vendor.
