Walking around Puerto Princesa, I stumbled upon this with a sign that said xurreria and I'm like no way?! And so my partner and I went inside El Txoko and behold, churro heaven.
First off the decor is very reminiscent of bars you'd find in Spain. The owner, Maria Carmen has lived in Barcelona and has a daughter living in Bilbao and so she knows what a great churro is. And damn she makes a great churro. You can choose to get 3 or 6 with either dark chocolate, white chocolate, and strawberry truffle. The batter is extruded and goes into the deep fryer where it gets its crispy exterior. They're everything I love about churros with the texture perfect as it get.
It has been only open for a week and Maria Carmen is planning to have wine, sangria and tapas alongside the churros and pastries it already provides. They also carry Pure Nectar juices which are cold pressed juices made with local fruits like calamansi, dalandan, and mango. Also this place is in front of the Best Western in case you need to find it on Rizal Avenue.
