Great little dimly lit hole in the wall that offers up a nice variety of Belgian and other European country beers. While there's no shortage of beer in CDMX it's one of the few places to get your hands and liver around something not locally or American made. We walked into El Trappist for a few drinks before a dinner reservation nearby when we were in Mexico City a few weeks ago. In a city that perhaps isn't known for its beer/craft beer or beer bars, this was a fun change of pace! They do also have mezcals and mezcal cocktails on the menu (QR code). The mezcal cocktails we were had were good - and the beer selection was pretty broad for a small spot, we tried a beer we definitely couldn't find or haven't seen in the US, which was was cool. It's dark and small - but comfortable. And the service was good! Definitely a place I'd be be happy to visit again. read more

This self-proclaimed "best craft beer selection" at a bar, may be it for real. I think of the craft beer bars I hit in DF, this one was the one with the fullest cooler. El Trappist is also a very small bar. Maybe four tables inside, a bar, and four tables outside. It makes this place intimate and cozy (or good for cozying up). The beer selection is good also. I found this place wandering in La Condesa. It's got a great chill vibe, definitely didn't feel mainstream or too hyped for a Monday night. Too many (bottled) beer choices to fit on a menu, which is a good thing because the bartenders really know their product and you can let them know what you're in the mood for - although you might have to get by with some Spanglish. I started with a Mexican IPA, a ginger beer and finished off with a Coconut flavored one - all selections more than satisfied my cravings. Also, a TV had the Simpsons on and good music from Michael Jackson to Mexican pop-rock of Natalia Lafourcade was playing. The complementary seasoned nuts elevated my experience even more. read more

This place has a good selection of beers but the place does not have a menu listing their options. I think this would really help make the place better as there is a huge selection to choose from but its hard to know what options there are.They also did not pour the Trappist correctly as they poured the whole bottle into the glass. This left some yeast particles floating around in the glasses. Normally, I am not so picky but since the bar is called Trappist they should know how to pour Trappist beer. The service is okay. One server was not very helpful but the other guy we had was really nice. He was also really nice to our puppy which helped. I would come back but I think they need to improve by learning how to pour Belgian beer correctly and add a menu. read more

Carlos, Oscar and Adriana are all very knowledgeable on the selection as they try every single beer that comes in...not to mention they are extremely friendly. Easily my favorite place for beers in La Condesa. If you like trying new beers, this is the place for you. They have three refrigerators. The fridge on the right is nothing but Mexican craft beers from everywhere in the country. Most places have the same generic Mexican beers that you can get almost anywhere. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for new beers to try. The beer called "Old Fart" from Ponderosa is only sold here (and is great). They also have some solid bar food that is unique (to us Americans) and is delicious. The staff is great and super friendly. You won't regret this spot. read more

My friends and I found this place during our visit to Mexico City. It's on the La Condesa neighborhood. It has an amazing selection of craft Mexican beers along with beers from all over. A lot of places called "cervezerias" are not really breweries and have only a few beer selections. Here you will never run out of beers to try, all the while enjoying the great music and top notch service. They also have pretty awesome bar food. read more
