Next time indeed will post pictures, or will try. Truly the aromatic scents of the Chicken Shawarma will capture your senses when you walk in the door of this wonderful merchant. Although I do have an image of my grocery haul while I was there. Bonus there is a Butcher with fresh meat selection if that is your fancy. There is also Lamb and Goat and it is Halal! Service is very professional. The ambiance is that of a locally owned small market. However, there are plenty of international options and fresh produce! An example, my pasta is from both Turkey and France! Do give them a try.

You pay at the register up front. They don't have a dining area. It was very reasonably priced ($10 and change), which is a steal for the portions that they give you. When I got back to my office and opened the box I was shocked at the size of the chicken shawarma, it was a little smaller than a burrito from chipotle. They also give you a good portion of fries, basically filling up the whole to go box. They put some type of seasoning on the fries that is very good, and the sauces and spices they use on the chicken shawarma were amazing. Don't let the location and first impression fool you, the food is amazing. Everything was hot and fresh. The lady that was preparing the food was very kind and polite, and helped me figure everything out since it was my first time eating here. I will definitely be back.

It's up in a small strip mall further north on Haywood Road from Haywood Mall or across the strip from off Orchard Park Road from where Outback Restaurant is. It's not large but has all the dry staples, so many choices of rice (white, brown, sushi, sweet, etc), noodles, etc. It also has the frozen section that extends one entire wall and one of those freezer chest for the dumplings, pre-made food. The other side has the fresh vegetables and also packaged tofu, mushrooms, noodles, quail eggs, etc. I haven't gotten anything from their seafood area which one staff is there for the fish and stuff. I will go periodically to get rice noodles and glutinous rice flour. With Honey's food allergies (gluten and dairy) fortunately asian food have plenty of options but you still have to know which things do use wheat like most of the frozen dim sum yummies that I'll get for me and other family member still at home who clearly like those buns as much as me. So check the ingredients. Because it is Chinese/Lunar New Year, I will be making some CNY Sticky Rice Cake. Honey uses the same glutinous rice flour in a treat he makes for cycling fuel so figured I'd pick up a bunch. It makes me chuckle when I do, because at least movies I've seen, those packages looks like a drug issue . . But we do need to watch sugar consumption. Fun part is coming up with different dish for the Chinese New Year celebration which lasts for a couple weeks and eating . Photos showed two of our dinners and opting to reduce carbs. CNY Eve we had noodles (not pictured) that included veggies, chicken and long rice noodles representing longevity, NY night for rice cake noodles with beef, then fish ball and cake soup since was chilly. And pot stickers, baked beef bun (they sell lots of other choice), and will do the egg tart tomorrow. This isn't the nicest one I've been to, but maybe because I haven't been out as much during pandemic seems to be not as cluttered, more spacious. Masks are required and staff are wearing masks and gloves. There was hand sanitizer at the checkout line.

My staples here are fresh baby bok choy, lemongrass, soy sauces (of which they have several dozen varieties), straw mushrooms, ramen (several varieties as well), various sauces, etc. There are also some items such as teapots and cooking utensils, etc. This trip we wanted to get some canned quail eggs to make pickled spicy quail eggs. They had run out of these, but wait!, they had fresh quail eggs and we used them! The only thing that they don't have here is any live or fresh fish. Another market in town has a fishmonger in the market with both fresh and live fish, but they also have a restaurant. This is conveniently located and I would not hesitate to recommend them for their variety and interesting ingredients.

We eat it with brown rice and a katsuo ume - a type of pickled plum they carry with a cup of green tea. It may sound trite but it all goes together very well. I have successfully made several Japanese dishes with ingredients from this store (thanks to justonecookbook.com). I can now make home-made miso soup!! They have several different flavors of mochi ice cream. The candy/snack isle is well-stocked. There is a large selection of frozen foods. My husband is diabetic and was trying to get away from soda. He found the Ito En teas that are unsweetened. He likes the green tea but prefers the Oolong (it is lighter in flavor). He drinks these all the time now. They have a nice selection of Miso pastes including some that are organic. The seasonings and sauces isle has a lot of choices. We also buy our brown rice here. It seems a little expensive, but the quality is a noticeable difference from stuff you can get at any American grocery store. The owner is so nice and friendly. She is eager to help with any questions you may have like which rice would go best with curry and which is better to eat by itself. She told us which natto brand was preferred by most - Okame (and I agree it does have the best flavor). It may be a small store, but it is a hidden treasure here in the Upstate! Also try the restaurant next door - Sushi Masa. Very authentic food and atmosphere. I see the cooks sneaking in and out of Tanpopo. Sushi Masa uses the stuff Tanpopo sells, so you know it's of good quality (and also really convenient!).
