The stop is certainly a tourist stop, but let's be honest, you are in Teotihuacán! That's a given…read more What was truly great about this spot is that you can get very good information about the magüey plant, obsidian, and their use by the Teotihuacenses. The shop carries good quality, but what really made this place 5 stars for us was the young lady that walked us through the different artisan stations and the sections of the store, Sole. Sole was fantastic! She gave us the most accurate information about Teotihuacán that we received the entire trip! She was knowledgeable, nice and very sweet with our 11 year old daughter. She was also able to shift from Spanish to English for our multiple-lingual small group. We had a very good time here, and, if you go, do yourself a favor and see if Sole can be your guide. Then head over to the pyramids and climb steps to your heart's content!

Mainly all of the different rocks gathered from nearby lava rocks. When I say nearby, it's really more than 150km away. Just the different color variations is amazing. Carving from giant pieces to create works of art is not priceless. It's a collection you could bring home as a souvenir depending on the size. The first thing we saw is this plant that the core is hollowed out to see this liquid called something like, ma-gey (spelling?). I'm sure in some process, it becomes fermented to our samples of tequila. What tour in Mexico that doesn't include tequila tasting. We get to sample the ma-gey which is a bit sour like citrus fruit then not so much. Also not something you would order at a bar. We are shown different pieces with amazing natural color. Gold, orange, mixed in with the black color. One of the pieces you can see through if you were to look at an eclipse of the sun. Why didn't we know about this much earlier. After walking around the gift shop, waiting on everyone else in our group. There is a guy who showed up and started up the loom. As if he is continuing the light blue woven fabric. Interesting how he incorporates the color for the design. Then it was time to load up the van.

Sooo you told your friends you were going to Mexico City, and everyone wanted you to bring them…read moreback a souvenir. Never fear, Plaza de la Ciudadela is here for you! This admittedly tourist-driven market is a one-stop shop for any souvenirs, clothing, or art you might want to take back home. We just ended up buying a simple (fairly cheap) souvenir shot glass for a friend while here. However, even after our official shopping obligation was done, it was a lot of fun to just wander through the stalls and admire the arts and crafts on display. There are even some vendors selling various food items if that's the kind of souvenir you're into (I sure am!). I really appreciated how the vendors were not very pushy about forcing their wares on you, or in your face about luring you into their stores to take a look--this is always my least favorite part of shopping at markets in most countries. This, no doubt, contributed to the pleasantness of my experience here. There was a free dance performance by students from a local dance school while I was here, so that was fun to watch for a little while. There's also a restaurant in the middle of the market if you need some fuel to get you through your shopping spree.

Even if you don't buy a thing (impossible!!) you'll feel like you've taken a whirlwind tour of some of the most beautiful and artistically productive areas of the country... I love the colors, the feel of "discovering" a great bargain or a unique piece of craftwork. It may seem like there's a lot of repetition here (and there is...) but if you take the time, and really check out all the hidden nooks and crannies, you're bound to find a true, one of a kind gem (or twelve...)!! I could spend a week in here!! There's a cafe mid way through the market, and restrooms toward the back. Don't miss the non-craft (foods, spices, etc.) vendors around the perimeter, don't waste too much time trying to bargain/heckle, as most of the prices are super reasonable (though some vendors will give you great deals for volume buying) and one of your purchases before leaving CDMX might just be another suitcase (or three!) to bring home all your WONDERFUL finds here at the Ciudadela Market!! ANIMO!!! Shop here, DON'T wait til you're leaving at the airport, and see lesser-quality work for 3x the price!!

I wanted to get a couple of nice things so I began to search for stores that carried furniture and other types of cool things like perhaps even artwork. I found this store online and the actually have a couple of locations. This one was the closest to me. The first things that I saw was the dining set that was handmade from Patambanán Michoacán. The set of four plates of three sizes, bowls, and cups came to be around $8,000. They looked absolutely beautiful. The service here wasn't the best considering the high-end items that they sell. The lady at the register barely even acknowledge d my existence. She was preoccupied with some sales slips and seemed to have trouble getting up out of her chair, to help out another customer. However the one gentleman wasnice and helpful. I would definitely recommend this store for their great products, bit less like to recommend for their service.

The sales staff is bilingual, and they take credit cards. They can explain what it is you're looking at, so you know what you are purchasing. If you decide whether or not to do so. They don't mind window shopper's. You can find many of the things they carry at the various markets and tanguis scattered around Mexico City for less money. But, none are as stunning as they are here. Why do people shop at Tiffany's? I think for the same reasons.
