We came back to Madrid two days early so we could visit La Fragua one more time before we flew home. This is a very simple restaurant plopped down in the middle of a Madrid suburban neighborhood. From the outside it is only a door in a wall of an office building but inside it is a delightful restaurante serving a great version of Cocido Madrileno. The patrons we observed on both of our visits appeared not to be strangers which made us believe the quality of food brings locals back time and again. The English here is limited to non-existent but communication is easy. On our second visit the house was full and we arrived without reservations but they made a table for us anyway and treated us very graciously. To be sure we sampled other dishes during our two visits but the Cocido will have us coming back. Their house wine is Ramon Bilbao and the inventive tapas that accompany every meal are not only tasty but mini works of art. We came here twice...we will come back again.

Located on a quiet square, it has tables outside but I opted to eat indoors. I thought, as I'm on a Spanish Island, Paella would be a good choice. I certainly wasn't disappointed. There must have been every choice of meat and fish in the dish. The waiters giggled as I picked up a prawn and posed with it at the end of my nose for a photo (I know, my mum always told me not to play with my food)! It was far better eating it.completely stuffed, I unshamedly asked for a doggy bag as I didn't want to waste a morsel and warming it up the next day tasted even better!

Since I haven't had Chinese, or Asian food as a matter of fact, since I arrived in Spain a week ago…read moreI had been craving some. Most of their menu consists of fried noodle, fired rice, etc. Basically your stereotypical Chinese food but since we were tired of the fried food we ordered dishes that were not on their menu. You can make these request but make sure to know what you want and also make sure these are typical dishes you would see at a restaurant; it shouldn't be something like orange chicken but instead more along the lines of noodle soup, or chicken mushroom.
