But then the small plate we look forward to: the snails! A good-sized plate, took a while to prepare (and it's prepared fresh here), but worth the wait. Lots of snails, good sauce, nicely cleaned, tender and tasty. As great as last time. Prices are fair, the wine is good and the food tasty. Still great. But then there are several great places around here. The choice is yours. Best to do some bar-hopping.

But we came for the Tapas. On weekends it can get pretty packed, but it's well worth the wait. We had our Bulldog with. Dogs are not allowed inside, but luckily they don't mind if you sit inside the entrance hall or stand at one of the tables in the entrance hall (good if it rains). And that's really fair enough and we were happy to enjoy these excellent Tapas when our dog was with. The Tapas here come with interesting twist and are divine. Some of the best Tapa creations we've ever came across. And the prices are still quite low. Great wine as well (try the white Muga). There are Tapas like shrimp inside a crispy spring roll dough, Bacalau topped with jamon and asparagus, meat croqueta topped with mayo and crispy onions. And there are many more....all looking fantastic. But couldn't try them all (a good reason to come back one day). They also serve small plates. We tried the frog legs in sauce, and as the Tapas they were perfectly cooked and tender. And for the price they sell them quite the steal. All in all wonderful restaurant with the most excellent Tapas. Definitely one of the great ones this place. We will be back.

It is a combined sports bars and daily news spot. The first night we were there, we made a point of greeting all the regulars as they sat and spent their evening at "their table". Second night, we were met with big smiles from the regulars. Third night, we got to cheer for the bull and boo the sloppy matador during a televised bullfight. There is a heat lamp but it was still like sitting in a freezer outside. "We only serve brunch outside," said the waiter. Ninety minutes later, when we paid the check, i went inside to go to the bathroom and I was shocked to see that in the dining room how many people were eating in there: exactly zero! I am quite annoyed that a restaurant of this high status cannot be more accommodating and have better hospitality. They could have easily moved us inside. I am not sure if I will be returning on future visits.

The place is clean and modern looking with a beautiful chalkboard and a friendly waiter who was happy to accommodate our late-night drunken and broken Spanish. We had delicious and piping hot croquettes with a creamy interior spiked with salty ham. Their anchovies were standard but really delicious. Finally, at the bartender's recommendation, we had some Morcilla (blood sausage) with a lovely creamy puree. There is so much amazing food in Bilbao, it's sometimes hard to choose where to go to get your fix. In this case, Ad Hoc's unusually extended hours made the decision for us and i'm really happy they did!!
