Super quaint - the menu came on a black chalk board that was clearly written just for the day. Nice outdoor seating. Food: - Seared tuna with greek salad: the greek salad was more of a garnish to the tuna than a full salad, but it was chock full of flavor with the feta and peppers standing out; the tuna was cooked really well - Dorade: fish was cooked really well; the skin was very crispy and the fish itself was moist and tender; the fish sat on a bed of ratatouille that was very authentic and tender - Foie gras with pain au chocolat: I wasn't sure what to expect here, but the pain au chocolate ended up being two chocolate flavored crackers; foie gras was good, but not stand out Service: Looked like the staff consisted of only two people! Intent on finding a nice spot to have some wine and cheese on our day in this interesting French town. The interior was decorated with a hodge podge of different items, various cool pictures, a giant movie poster of "Chat Noir, Chat Blanc." (not entirely familiar with the film) and other assorted paintings which we were told from the owner, a tall, dreadlocked French fellow (reggae played in the background) he decorated himself. He was quite friendly to two tourists that could barely speak the language and brought us out a complementary bruschetta type dish to accompany our fromagé and wine. The various cheeses were really good and I have to say, and I bet this sounds a little dumb, (but anyhow) the sliced French bread was probably some of the best I've ever had. We didn't stay long, but in the little time we spent there, friends of the owner came by to say hello and chat for a bit. Seemed like place that the locals enjoy. The kicker for me, what sold me was simple. On a small wooden shelf above the main counter they had all their liquor bottles. In the center of the shelf, what sat there but a big bottle of Duff Beer. If you'd rather be adventurous & enjoy an ice cold Dos Equis dipped in beer salt (requested) on a quaint city side street in the French Riviera & feel like the gods are smiling on you as the chips & salsa arrive before the menu, then rejoice & be glad. Gratitude is the attitude here & the waitstaff speaks Spanish. After being served my enchiladas verdes, the owner asked where I was from. When I answered, "Texas," he promptly returned to my table with small serving dishes of pickled jalapeño (which you can't even find fresh in Nice), a smoked salsa roja, and a salsa verde. Our chips and salsa was more like a dusting of chips with salsa carrot / potatoe purée. We ordered the Flautas and the Guacamole salad. The flautas came with "mexican" rice which was not only bland but also microwaved. The frijoles were from a can and tasted decent. The chicken in the flautas was very salty with a season that was not Mexican based. I could not pin point the seasoning but it was def not mexican. The guacamole, sour, sour, sour, not fresh and watery, we get about 10 chips for a big bowl. To top it off , the meal was plated with baked or fired bananas, not sure why they think bananas are mexican. All in all, it was an adventure of the taste that I will NOT repeat.
