Every established Mexican restaurant in the SUX metro has their own area of expertise. El Ranchito's regular menu tends a bit towards the tex-mex; expect some melted yellow cheese on most dishes. (I don't say that as a dis, just as a a fact.) I like the shrimp enchiladas but the real star of the show is the parrillada mexicana. Developed the stomach flu (norovirus) 24 hours after eating here for the first time in years. Went the Monday before Christmas and had to cancel plans and quarantine myself the entire week. Tonight is Sunday and I still have lingering symptoms. Food took longer than expected despite it being a lazy 130pm, after lunch hours, so I wonder if that played a card somehow. Make your employees wash their hands frequentlyfor God's sake. I don't dine out frequently anymore and this sort of thing is why. read more

It's a HUGE building and great for events, but the food is just so-so. There are dozens of Mexican restaurants in South Sioux and I'm pretty sure my husband and I have tried them all. El Ranchito is our least favorite. Their ground beef is very bland. Their white queso is pretty good. Parking is usually pretty good unless they have a huge event. The last two times I've gone to one there I've had to park across the road in the grassy lot. Service is usually pretty good. They do keep their buffets stocked and clean. I used Doordash and ordered the Steak Ranchero which is supposed to be a house specialty. The description states that it is Tenderloin sliced and fried with bell peppers, onions and tomatoes. The steak was grissely, fatty, and tough; definitely not tenderloin. read more

This is our main "go to" locally for delicious Mexican food and a wonderful menu. The staff are friendly and very quick to serve you. The guacamole is made fresh and the chunky homemade salsa is fantastic with just the right heat. Try a taco de lengua and chili relleno! read more

My family usually sticks with the fajitas. They are solid here. We like the chicken and beef with flour tortillas. The one thing we have to add each time is sour cream, and shredded cheese. The house salsa is very good all by itself, but even better mixed with the queso. The other item that is very good is the shredded beef burrito. Yum. Service has always been good. read more

Our normal joint, Mi Familia, was closed on Mondays, so we decided to head here. It just really wasn't good. Got the queso dip, and it was just plain white nacho cheese, nothing to it. Had gotten blended margaritas & they were very foamy and weak. I had gotten the tamale and chicken enchilada meal w/ rice and beans. Enchilada was the best part of the meal, but it was still only "ok". The rest was 'meh'. Service was ok enough. No one was really in a hurry, but it wasn't terribly slow either. Tonight, 2/4/22, we went to what is usually our favorite place to eat. Pulled into the parking lot at 6:30 p.m. and realized they were fairly busy do to the traffic. But more often than not, with traffic this heavy, they are having an event of some kind in the back. And are always staffed accordingly. Tonight however was a different story. No event taking place. We seated ourselves, as normal, with approximately 75% of the tables occupied. We waited, as did some of the surrounding tables, for the wait staff to bring out chips, salsa, and menus. Normally they take our drink order at this time. This never happened. About 25 minutes passed and a staff member bussing tables, brought out chips and salsa, and menus and said our waitress would be right with us. We waited while some of the other tables, arriving after us, had their orders taken and then their food began arriving for them. After waiting a total of 45 minutes, we let a staffer cleaning tables that we still hadn't been waited on for drinks. 15 minutes after that exchange, our waitress came to the table appearing upset that we had her called over to the table. With a snotty attitude she asked, "what do you want to drink?" We ordered drinks and then our food at same time. In hindsight, we should have left the table as soon as she displayed her poor attitude. After our drinks took another 15 minutes to arrive, we stayed there another 20 minutes waiting for food, as other tables had already finished after arriving after us. We watched another table that had arrived 20 minutes after us get up and leave after ordering and not getting their food either. We followed them out the door 10 minutes later without ever making further contact with our waitress. Sat at table #13 at 6:30 and left at about 7:45. Not their finest night. read more

If you're in the mood for mediocre, above-average price Mexican food, this spot is for you. Salsa was the one redeming quality (if you can call it that). Really, really, big place with more room (banquet area? extra dining?) than actual populated seats. I had the dinner with three enchiladas (shredded beef, chicken, cheese) that came with beans and rice. Dodnt expect to see a green bean on my rice. Didn't expect lima beans, corn, and carrots to inhabit the chicken enchilada. Didn't expect all three enchiladas to taste exactly the same despite the different fillings. Bland as heck. Should've gone to Taco Bell for more fovaries and discernable flavor. Check took about 15 minutes to arrive (had to approach server). Not horrible, but not again. read more

Just a run of the mill Mexican joint. Not very busy when we went in, HUGE Banquet hall in the back, seems to be a major focus and a big Bar up front. Food was not bad, nothing over the top awesome. One of the dishes was the wrong meal, 2 people went half the meal without receiving their drinks and some of the food was cold. We chose to not make complaints and went to pay so we could just leave.
